    I worked at a restaurant for a bit and I had this one customer come in who was visiting from Austrailia and when he first spoke I asked where in Aus. he was from. His jaw literally dropped and he said ”You are the first person to think I'm from Australia rather than Britan.”

      MsRainbow Brite Oh we do! We get a few days of sun in the middle of summer and it gets unbearably hot - well for us anyway. We aren't used to it lol.
      Anyway, it is worse for me - I live in the rainiest part of rainy ol' England: Lancashire! We are on the *wrong* side of the Pennines.
      Wish we could swap with Yorkshire...

      TimLil i did too i am so happy no one has asked me any questions like that and the guy talks funny too and i am a Canadian
      now i will probably get a whole bunch of people asking me weird questions about Canada first we don't say aboot we say about and when i go to the us i will have conversations with people i will somehow work the word about into it tell them i'm Canadian and get a surprised look and then oh that explains why you're so nice

      Kitten witch, you are correct, however, the species of geese you are referring to are called "Canada geese" not Canadian gees, seeing as they aren't actual Canadian citizens. Feel free to look it up. And yes we do all have beavers and moose and geese, and our country is one big iceberg. 100% true

      Yep and if you go from New York to New Orleans its basically like going from Scotland to Italy the phrases, terrain, accents, culture, how nice/rude the people are, and weather are all different. Oh and especially what the people like to eat.

      all I can think of after 98% of my life in the UK:
      -middle-class posh (south and parts of south west)
      -cockney (mainly essex, but parts of east anglia and the outskirts of london)
      -scouce (liverpool)
      -brummie (birmingham and bloody well strong up in wolverhampton)
      -geordie aye aye pet now yous can just guess this one eh
      I forgot the rest

      I think one thing Americans don't seem able to comprehend is the fact that there are around 56 different types of accents used in Britain, and from Lands End to John O' Groats you're never going to come across two regions of the UK who speak with the same accent. For example Newcastle and Durham have similar accents, but there are very noticeable differences, the same with York and Leeds, Somerset and Bristol, etc. The main stereotype I find is that Americans seem to think that all British people speak with an "RP" accent, when there is a massive difference between north and south, England and Scotland, even London and Essex!

    One of the problems I find communicating with Americans is the fact that Americans still use the Imperial system. When I ask how how it is there, I get a very high numerical value in Fahrenheit and I can't for the life of me figure it out...
    Not to mention that I get laughed at when I pronounce the "H" in "Haitch".
