100 Miles…lesson learned, England!

  • I wish charging station provider would learn their lesson and put contact card payment on all their machines. It would make life so much easier! Who invented this chip business anyways. Whatever, I wouldn’t have had to charge if I would have known I only make 100 miles today. But isn’t this what traveling is all about? Meeting people? Learning about the country you’re in? I would say so! I had a great day even if I didn’t make it very far. I also made a little money on the side 😃 my first 10 quid👍🏼

You can't tour on an Electric bike

You can't just use your phone as navigation
You need hard-luggage, or luggage racks to tour:

Seconding Calimoto. If you are staying in an area you can set it up for circular rides and keep off of major roads (motorway and 'A' roads). Ashbourne is a great town, famous for its Shrove Tuesday (February) football which has to be experienced to believe.

Calimoto is great, I also use it for all my pleasure riding around London. Just select "windy" option and it will take you through all the nice little roads (if only sometimes too narrow and windy :D). The only drawback is that it's quite expensive, something about 9 euro a week or 49 euro a year.

Want to stay off main A roads?? Use TomTom or Calimoto and engage the maximum 'windy route' setting ... be prepared for some proper tight and wriggly little lanes though! Both will add hours to your journey time which could be interesting on an electric machine. Also be aware that Calimoto will put effort into trying to get you to ride through rivers, fields, peoples gardens, military property - basically anywhere you shouldn't be going - it can be quite an adventure!! 😂😉

I did a roundtrip in the south of England this summer. Went from east to west and back. I used the calimoto app on my phone, and it always sent you down the twisties. Only B roads, sometimes A roads, and sometimes very narrow roads that I even considered as "over the top"... I did not do any motorways and it was a wonderfull experience. England is such a beautifull place with it is little towns and hilly landscape.

Going back in time, pub food used to be "something and chips". Over the last 30 odd years it has become very good. Fresh cooked, wholesome and generally reasonably priced. Beats the hell out of roadside chain cafes and fast food.
The UK roads are very crowded, and their motorway lane discipline is terrible. Keep to the smaller roads and enjoy. Guess that goes for any where in the world.
