  • This video is the correction of the cockpit & nose sections of the F-4B Phantoms VF-92 Silver Knights Nose Number 211 and VF-96 Screaming Eagles Nose Number 602 that I built a few years ago as part of my USS Enterprise and Carrier Air Wing Nine Project.
It is a lesson is double-checking instructions sheet accuracy against reference photos of the actual subject.
While not 100% perfect, they are now correct to the best of my knowledge, ability, and satisfaction.

The "white section" may be a plasticized fabric band wrapped around covering the gap between the radome and the barrel of the fuselage. We used orange bands like that in VMFA-531 to keep moisture out of the radome and radar package. The rubber seal on the radome didn't always work well enough.
And sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but there is no lower frame on the outer parts of the windscreen. The clear plexi goes right down to the fuselage meeting at a slightly obtuse angle. The Plexi actually continues down a little behind that part of the fuselage and that's where the lower edge is fastened from the inside.

Interesting. So at least I got the radomes correct, i.e., no white, just radome tan. I can live with the frames. Its what was scribed into the model itself and pretty close to the references in the F-4 Squardron In-Action books. Thanks for the info and thanks for your service.

Nice job, AQ, VF-92, USS America 1970, USS Constellation 1971-72.

Thank you for your service. FYI, I have a playlist of all the builds in the Enterprise project to date on my channel. Thanks for the view and kind comment.
