    Not all women age well. But the lovely Martina Hingis, like Chris Evert, has retained her beauty over the years. She is still stunning today in 2019. She is one of the most gorgeous women in any sport!

      being someone who isn't trained in tennis - played by feel only - I cannot really tell good strokes well. I only had the idea that Hingis was good at smashes when she was included in a list by Tennis .com on best shots. smash. she was also in best drop shots, volleys and mind.

    What people need to understand is Hingis was raised in a era where shot making, anticipation, counter punching and consistency were needed to succeed in tennis. If Hingis came onto the tennis scene post-2000 no doubt she would be a hard hitter like most of the players nowadays. With the exception of her feet/ankle, Hingis was not noted to sustain injuries to her upper body like most players so that was smart of her for not overdoing it.

    Hingis is a legend. It's easy to recreate raw power (we've seen so much of that lately), but rare to find tennis brains (Federer comes to mind, oh the Swiss!).

      @@karoldettlaff5345 What are you calling "talent"? the unability to create power and the capacity to find another way to make a life on a tennis court? If create power was so much easier Hingis would have added 10mph on her serves and 5mph in her groundstrokes...

    • @karoldettlaff5345
      @karoldettlaff5345 Před 3 lety

      @@chrisarmelseyibayebek4977 that's not queer at all. You know for the professional player it's not so easy to increase your power without loosing some technical skills. Not everybody can be Henin who - in my opinion ans not only mine as you surely know - was in her prime better than Serena in her prime. Talent is something that you can't learn, it's your ability to create something with ease, naturaly. You can't be in top 10 best players without having talent, but some players have more of it, some less. For me players like Henin, Clijsters, Hingis have much more talent than Serena, but it doesn't make them more succesful than Serena of course. Tenis is more than talent. And talent itself... well compare Mozart and Haydn... ;)

    Pity Hingis succumbed to her bad ankles/feet. There's no doubt she would have added to her grand slam singles titles. Just wasn't there same after her surgeries.

      @Paakid Před 8 lety +5

      you're so kidding yourself. Serena and Venus just got stronger and totally started dominating Martina. 2001 aussie open quarterfinals was the last time she ever beat Serena again. Martinas game never evolved and everyone else got better and stronger and hit harder which was the end of her. she's even stated this fact herself. that she just couldn't compete with the williams sisters anymore and then girls started emulating them by working out more. simple

    • @zabaleta66
      @zabaleta66 Před 8 lety +3

      +taukz taukz Yeah, I am aware of her having said that. The Williams', Davenport and others did dominate increasingly, still I have no doubts her injuries and off court problems were the major factors. Injuries tend to wear on ones resolve more than anything else.

      The problem is she looks like a track athlete and all the other women look like your average tennis player. If you put her on a track field no one would look twice. But I do think she's significantly over her functional weight, as they call it in track. It helps with some shot-making but really hinders her lateral movement and recovery time. Oh well. I just want her to get a few more slams and break the all-time mark.
