  • That's 15 paints including the base! Speed painting doesn't always have to mean dark and grimy, and starting from a slightly lighter colour than you're intending will let you shade without having to worry about brightening up the armour of your Word Bearers.
    Now, if I could only find those transfers...!

    Very nice. World Eaters, Word Bearers, Sons of Horus...can't decide.

      If I were to knuckle down and pick a Traitor Legion to play myself, I'd probably lean toward the Sons of Horus or the Death Guard. Something about stuff that 'should' be bright and difficult to paint that you can just dunk in the Juice? Magnificent. :D

    I noticed you were doing something in red so I had to take a look. You used different colors than I do but I like it. Nice job!

    Great video and great timing! A thoroughly enjoyable watch as always.
    Also, can we take a moment to appreciate how awesome a colour Rakarth Flesh is? Parchment? Check. Cotton? Check. Sickly flesh? Check. Bone? Check. Stone? Check. You name it.

    Lovely Word Bearer. Funnily enough I actually got some hobby time in today and assembled my first Word Bearer for my new army. Will spray them later.

    Interesting tutorial, also if I don't like Horus Heresy's figures, this kind of scheme could be used for some ancient Sith heavy troopers.
    P.s. one of the reasons I dropped GW's colours for Valleijo's ones is these latter's excellent cover power, with only two layers generally also the lighter colours cover well 👍

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, exactly! I think it's a super nice red. It'd make a great Sith trooper colour, I'm with you on that one.

  • @jamesgreaney7615

    As someone who uses a lot of VMC Red 926 (not to be confused with VMC Flat Red or even VMC Red 947, the Vallejo naming conventions are... interesting) for historicals I was embarrassed not to recognise it from the images you'd posted on Twitter! It really is a lovely colour and probably one of the best reds I've ever used.
    If you ever find yourself painting redcoats again, VMC Red 926 and Cavalry Brown are my go-tos for officers and enlisted men respectively.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      Here I would have imagined Cavalry Brown would be too dark! Goes to show what I know, though - my knowledge of Napoleonics is fairly surface level still, so I'm always glad of someone gently steering me back in the right direction. 😂

    Very nice I wonder if dry brushing the entire minature tuskgor fur before applying the rest of the base coats then applying the marine juice would work well too.

      I'm pretty bad about keeping up with public Discords - there's just too much happening, and I always feel as though I'm missing out. I'd feel kinda like a heel to just show up and drop links to my stuff. 😅

    Im gonna use that gal vorbak for the first time.. Im painting roman soldier.. And Im basing my painting in Spartacus. Im using khorne for the cape and red on the robes.. I want to use that gal for the leather.. Any tips?

  • @UntiltedName
    @UntiltedName Před 7 měsíci

    fwiw, Gal Vorbak Red covers poorly over black. It would require more than 2 coats and is why you don't see it much.

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +2

      Eventually! I'm a little mindful that I don't want to just dump non-stop Marines on the channel, but with Horus Heresy just over the horizon, I'd like to get some of the big names out of the way sooner rather than later.

    I'm honestly not a fan of vallejo colors, they're too thin. But they work well for layering. For me, citadel base colors and vellejo layer works well

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think I've come across a Vallejo paint that seemed too thin - is it possible it'd settled? As long as you've got something that works for you, though!

    • @stefan020290
      @stefan020290 Před 2 lety +2

      Either you paint in very thick layers, which is quite a bold choice or you got a bad batch of Vallejo. Almost all colours of them I picked up worked very well.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      Like most of the Heresy-themed base paints, it's a little too dark to use by itself. Nice colour, but a fuss to then layer up and highlight again.
