    In China, a emperor usually have four appellation to recognize. For example:
    Name:Puyi AisinGioro
    Region title:Xuantong(use it when the emperor lives)
    Ancestry title:Xianzong (use it when the emperor dead)
    Posthumous title:Feidi(means the deposed emperor, use it to assess his life and what he done)

      Most of the paintings shown here were done retroactively. They are from textbooks, we really have little information of what the classical emperors really individually looked like. The "emperors" from the northern dynasties and sixteen kingdoms period were non-Han, some of them were Qiangic, some of them were Xianbei. That is why they are dressed in different clothes. Same as the Qing Dynasty. True Han Chinese emperor fashion remained streamlined for most of its history. The Dragon Robe (袞龙袍) became fashionable during the Tang Dynasty onwards, and was based off of the Barbarian wear from earlier centuries.

    • @outisnemo555
      @outisnemo555 Před 10 měsíci

      @@johnnyzhao7698 It’s not a middle name it’s because some (in fact, most) Chinese personal names are composed of two instead of one character. For example “Zhu Yuanzhang”, in which “Yuan Zhang” is the two character personal name, while “Zhu” is the family name. Before the Song Dynasty, one character names such as Liu Bang, Liu Che, Li Bai, Du Fu were common, but after the Song Dynasty two character names like Zhao Kuangying, Fan Zhongyan, Wang Anshi, Zhou Dunyi became the mainstream. During the 1980s, one character names shortly became a trend, so Chinese born during the 1980s typically have one character names. After the 1990s though two character names became common again and so most young Chinese will have a two character name. Having a two character name is generally seen as being more cultured and sophisticated.
