  • My 2015 Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC diesel tourer was due an oil change, so I gave it a short service with oil and filter change, air filter and new rear brake discs and pads. I've done some of the other items since buying it: pollen filter, new tyres, front brakes, coolant flush and it has had recent brake fluid and A/C service. The Tourer continues to impress with effortless comfort over long distances and 60+ mpg guaranteed.

    Thanks for an informative video (and the other civic tourer video). Useful to have a non-journalist real-world person view. Good to hear you are a merc/audi man and don’t find it too different. Cheers

    There are locating buttons on the back of the inner pad that should fit into the voids in the piston.

    Changing rear discs, I used long nosed pliers ok, must push in hard at the same time as screwing it back into the caliper. I don't expect to do this again so tool investment would add to my one time tool box.

      For £15 I’d rather buy the stuff and do it right. I’ll have it for at least two sets of rear brakes.

    Great vids on this car, thanks. I’m moving back to the uk from Aus soon and looking at one of these, they look ideal. You mentioned in a video about updating the head unit to have Apple car play, any joy on this? I can’t find any info online about it. It’s the one thing I think I’ll miss! Thanks again

      Good luck with the move. Surprising how many people who seem to be moving back from the antipodes at the minute: just had an older couple come back to our street after 20 yrs in NZ. I haven’t done anything on the stereo change yet but it is my winter project. You’ll see in my other vids that I’ve fitted Kenwood units to my CRV so just waiting for a deal on an 8020 before Christmas and will get that in there. I’ll video it.

      Hi Maz, no issues. Just had an engine light come on but think it is a glowplug circuit issue. Not a huge panic. The car is just coming up to 120k and has been perfect. Timing chain change I don't know, maybe 180k? I changed my CR-V chain at 170k.

      Your comment is well timed. I didn’t fancy doing it on the floor so I took it to my MOT guy last week for us to do it on his ramp. It looks an absolute pig to get to and loaded with potential issues if something cracks, so I’m going to take it to Honda to be done this month sometime. Might get them to change the brake fluid also while they’re in there.

    I see Honda have now dropped the diesel option altogether to concentrate on hybrid technology. The main thing that puts me off more recent diesels is the DPF and the cost of a replacement. Presumably, you have decided to sell the car before it becomes a potential issue.

    • @johndglynn
      @johndglynn  Před 3 lety

      No, I’ll run it to at least 150k, which is 70k miles away. If it needs a DPF replacement then I’ll do it, but there are plenty of diesel particulate filters on the forums still going strong at this mileage.

      @@johndglynn That's good to hear. I had an Octavia Diesel Estate. Great car but I just do not like what I hear about the new diesels. Just too complicated now. The styling on this Civic is a love hate thing as you point out but most of us look past that and focus on the top notch engineering. Thanks for the videos and your feedback, John. Really helpful.

      If someone has a problems with DPF, it means that: A) Should not buy diesel car in the first place, because is using it on short distance only; or B) Fuelling up bad quality diesel. Personally, Honda dropping the diesel in new cars, put me off from buying new Honda. 1.6 i dtec is very good and eco engine.
