      Thank you. my guru, the great Padma Vibushan Kelucharan Mohapatra had full confidence that the art is so great that it would not be killed by lesser presentations as the cream will always rise to the top, so generously teaching all who wished to learn was best for the art

    • @SharonLowen1

    Beautiful performance Ms Lowen. I have a question though. There is a small Nrtta portion after the sloka but before the Sabha pranam. I think it adds a unique charm to this mangalacharan, but it is not performed nowadays. Do you know why it isn't performed in Manikya Veena any more? Also, do you know why this was added to this item? What influenced Guruji to include this? Are there other Mangalacharans with a similar Nrtta part? Why don't other Mangalacharans have these short Nrtta portions?
    I greatly appreciate any insight ma'am.

    • @SharonLowen1
      @SharonLowen1  Před 2 lety +2

      a good question. This small nritta portion is also part of the Pade Vande Mangalacharan choreography. If other dancers no longer include this in these two mangalacharans it is because today every performance is required to be as short as possible or because their teacher didn't include it in the teaching process for their own reasons. During most of my career, performances were 2 1/2 hours with one 15 min inermission for costume change, now many choreographies are abridged. Namami vignarajan is the first and shortest mangalacharan so it was natural not have beginning dancers learn a longer Sabha pranam.
