The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

No one sang anything better than Ella. She was the GOAT.
Rather than say I was born in the wrong time, I'll say that those old enough to experience this type of music were blessed 🙌
everyone listening to this is old enough to experience this music
My God what a treat. Not a whole lot of women these days can sing like Ella........
or Compose, Arrange, Play the Piano and Direct an Orchestra...
like
DUKE ELLINGTON
the biggest name in the History of Jazz, and Big Bands
Duke loved him some Ella 💕
I wish that there was another camera to see the face of Duke looking up at Ella. Sunday nights in my childhood - The Ed Sullivan Show. Not just the Beatles, but great variety and amazing talent on display for free. You just had to watch a few commercials.
no one like her fr fr. rip you beautiful soul ❤️❤️
Music that just makes you smile and escape.
Two giants of the music world.
Who. In. The. World. Gave this a thumbs down???
The timing between Duke and Ella is perfect 🥰
Duke and Ella: Two of the greatest entertainers to ever do it !!!!
check out the only session that Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong recorded together (2 Albums)
No one sang Duke Ellington's material better than Ella. Of all the songbooks she recorded, she sounds the most natural on the Duke Ellington songbook. One would think he wrote the songs with her voice in mind.
So true- thanks for that
She had such a voice, so distinctive and clear.
On the wall in my office I have a photo of Ella, taken from behind, singing in a club, in the front row: Count Basie, Billy Strayhorn, beaming. Ella may not have had enough romance in her life, but she had more love than almost anyone. And it goes on. And on. Forever.
I'm crying tears of joy. What incredible artists America has in our history- wow!
I have all of Ella’s songbooks. Of all of them, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Songbook is the greatest. She sings the songs as though Duke wrote them just for her.
From an era where musicians and singers actually had talent and style
Absolutely masterful!
Absolute respect and trust for each other.
Oh my God, I am so glad I heard that today! And that is the first time I heard it ever. I feel like I just continued my jazz education. Thanks a million for posting!
What I wouldn't have given to see her live. No one else's singing resonates with my soul the way her's does
This was the greatest era of popular music, and these were two of the greatest stars.
Sucha beautiful class to learn from. ❤
Her voice will forever slay.
One of my dear friends gifted me a handbill that Ella autographed back in the 60’s when she got to meet her backstage & hand her flowers.
I put it in the cover of my songbook for good luck.
She was truly one of the best
Wow that's the first time I heard it sung by Ella Fitzgerald and I like her twist on it. I guess you can say she Ellafied it.
I have goose pimples on my goose pimples. What a truly stunning rendition by three complete maestros.
Always enjoy songs by ELLA!
That may be the best trumpeter ever. The great Dizzy Gillespie. His cheeks give him away!
No auto tune required.
.....or lip syncing.
The Duke and Ella. Sublime
Unbelievable. I am a different person after hearing this.
I'm a jazz fan and I'm shocked I've never heard this until right now. Incredible, absolutely incredible.
Who's playing trumpet??? There's THREE people featured! He is not to be overlooked cause he's giving her what she needs in a glorious way!!!
It sounds like Cootie Williams.
Definitely Cootie Williams. Puffed cheeks and lippy embouchure.
You're right, it is Cootie. The song was originally his feature number, _Concerto for Cootie,_ a big band era classic.
apparently you're not hearing the drums etc
A Master class from both.
Someone told someone and someone told you
But they wouldn't hurt you, not much
Since every one spreads the story
With his own little personal touch
Do nothin' till you hear from me
Pay no attention to what's said
Why people tear the seam of anyone's dream
Is over my head
Do nothin' till you hear from me
At least consider our romance
If you should take the word of others you've heard
I haven't a chance
True, I've been seen with someone new
But does that mean that I'm untrue?
When we're apart, the words in my heart
Reveal how I feel about you
Some kiss may cloud my memory
And other arms may hold a thrill
But please do nothin' till you hear from me
And you never will
🙏🏾
More Ella .... Please! Ella was such a magnificent and magical singer. Thanks for this clip.
@Robin Sunrise your reply shows you are very musical (and possibly a singer?)
You may be right.
So refreshing to hear a great artist sing ...and hear Duke and the band...today's songs are disappointing.
Ella may just be the best singer on this one, especially this live version with the Duke.
Oh I love this tune and this is the tempo I love. Duke and Ella were such masters of their craft. Most people play it too fast for me. Thank you
what a set of pipes shes got!
They are the best and you can tell from the start. Many thanks for posting.
Dang. Awesome. Kick ass. You can't teach that stuff. Either you have it or you don't and, baby, they have it!! Wow.
She had a great voice.
She's my all time American Idol! 🥰
When my Precious Princess grand daughter was born 16 years ago and I heard her first cry, I yelled, "YES! She's an ALTO"!!!
Today, she is! She's very shy but also very talented with a beautiful voice ☺️
Legends. Nuff said.
Just beautiful !
Wow Wow Wow is all there is to say about this. It does not get any better.
Wow! Thanks for this upload. Two legends.
Deux monuments de la chanson Américaine , merci pour ces belles chansons.
So expressive, I'm feeling it deep in my soul.❤
Just love Ella's version 😍
simply amazing! 5 (million) stars!
I love this song, it's very different from nowadays songs which are all based on money and crime
Velvet Ella !
AMAZING - THANK YOU
My goodness. She sounds like a tenor saxophone.
well, she's certainly enjoying the direction of the conductor!
That's got that good flavor. Thanks
The Duke originally composed it as "Concerto for Cootie"- Cootie Williams, that is, who played lead trumpet on his original 1940 recording. Bob Russell added lyrics in 1943, and it became a bigger hit for several singers and bands {Woody Herman, Nat "King" Cole, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday}....and eventually, Miss Ella.
sublime
Fantastica
No wonder Lady Ella is known as The First Lady of Song.
On that day, Bloody Sunday happened at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.
just "WOW"!
Music by Duke Ellington, lyrics by Bob Russell.
SUBLIME❤
When Gods making music!!!
There was nobody like her... just sensational. Not totally sure about the orchestration tho.
As if there was no one before me….
👏👏👏👏👏♥️
💞🥰👏👏👏👏💐💐💐
Is it live or is it MEMOREX ?
Pretty sure this performance predates Memorex.
@@direfranchement you have to be old school to understand, that was an old tv commercial with Ella Fitzgerald
It's live baby! I dig that stage too.
