    Hardware used:
    1-1/4" Deck screws (for fence boards and for attaching fence brackets to the rails)
    3" Deck Screws (for fence brackets and toe-screwing gate)
    2"x4" Fence Brackets
    Gate Hardware Kit
    Tools used:
    Milwaukee M12 Fuel Impact Driver
    Milwaukee M18 Circular saw
    Tape Measure
    String Line
    Post-Hole Diggers
    Shovel
    Roto-Hammer (with 1" bit)
    Cherry picker (Yep, I really needed that)
    I forgot to mention that I leveled each fence board with a Torpedo level before I installed all the screws. I also ran a stringline on the top and middle of where I wanted the fence to make sure I put the post where I wanted it.

    Biggest mistake I see other builders make is setting the hinge side on one post . I always build the hinge side off 2 post for extra support , basically taking half of the load . I also cut my gates out instead of building and attaching, but if it doesn’t fail and sag over time and your happy with it , that is all that matters . Thx for the vid.

    How you open the gate if you are inside looks like you need different hardware to open the gate from both sides

    You are awesome!!!! I just finished closing off my yard. I would suggest getting 2 L brackets for the opposite corner of the gates. Holds it much steadier. Thank you so much dude.

    Does the gate frame have to be square? Lol what about rectangular? With the longer pieces runnning vertically and the shorter side running horizontally?

      @@StrangeGarage you did a great job, I'm currently taking notes on your video because im gonna building one in a couple of weeks.

  • @jonathansanchez-vayas9135

    Would recommend anyone to add water to your posts before nailing or screwing anything onto said post. This will ensure the same level throughout the fence.

    • @StrangeGarage
      @StrangeGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Usually add water last, because when you add water you gotta let the concrete dry before you can disturb it. You can plumb everything after you build it and it will turn out just fine :) but I don't have all the answers. Your way is just fine too.

    • @StrangeGarage

      Fusion 360. Same software I use for my CNC machine and 3D printer. It's not great, but it does what I need it to do.

  • @dannerino
    @dannerino Před 3 lety +1

    Verifying that your gate is square by taking diagonal measurements is fine, if your gate is going to be square. Most gates are rectangular.

    • @StrangeGarage
      @StrangeGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Measuring across still works with rectangles. I should have clarified I was trying to make the frame parallel top and bottom. Square can be a misleading term, but in my day to day I use the term "square" to say parallel on both axis.

  • @floridacruisers7705
    @floridacruisers7705 Před 4 lety +2

    Nice gate..however using a string line would have been better.2x4 tend to sag.

  • @xxmrgalaxyxx
    @xxmrgalaxyxx Před 2 lety

    It doesn’t have to be a square to be square, you can make a rectangle and it will still have the same dimension if you cross square it

    What app is that where you are making the gate. Is it a design program?

    • @StrangeGarage
      @StrangeGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      Fusion360. It's CAD/CAM/Animation software. It's what I use for my CNC projects.

      @@StrangeGarage Thanks for responding. The Kings Fine Woodworking channel shows a video, and I like where he describes setting the concrete for the post to run away from the post and down at an angle. Less rot at the base of the posts for sure. As water is woods enemy. 🪵 lol. Great videos guy. I am a fan. 👍

    • @StrangeGarage
      @StrangeGarage  Před 4 lety

      If I pour it wet then I have to wait for it to set before I can build the fence. Dry, I can work on the fence then add water.

      Seem awful cocky for someone watching instructional videos... I would expect anyone watching this video to be a beginner, without the faintest idea what you are doing. If you already knew everything you should have no problem at all building a fence without the help of an idiot like me.

    So...here its against code to attach fence directly to your house.

    • @StrangeGarage
      @StrangeGarage  Před 3 lety

      Code can be a funny thing. In my city you won't find a house where the fence isn't attached straight to the wall. In either case you would just have to do a post at the end if you can't just anchor it to the wall.
