Great review of the sad and uncompassionate, poor state of affairs at the Guyana Passport Office. Unacceptable that so many are inconvenienced especially the elderly, disabled and poor. Where’s the leadership or the ones in charge here? This is productivity going to waste. Time better spent doing other things. Not to mention unnecessary spending for those waiting several hours that have to buy a meal.
In addition the deplorable and inadequate bathroom conditions. Where is the minister of Social Services or Health on this? Have they been made aware? Are they aware and doing nothing? And certainly it can’t be a money problem. Were they caught unaware of the number of people wanting passports or concerned that it is being allowed as deterrent? As someone living outside, and I’m sure I speak for most who hesitate to want to return as it begs the question of continued poor, inadequate living conditions there.
Come on, aware that everyone’s busy with oil and gas and infrastructure and the complexities involved. But this is a quick fix and an important and necessary one. Add more trained officers, more and better toilets and improved waiting area.

These issues are low hanging fruits to reach for any government who is interested in making the lives of citizens easier. Everything is too centralized in Georgetown. The simple solution is to have regional passport offices and some regions may need multiple offices. Each of these offices should be fully equipped to accept applications, do biometrics and the printing of the passport biodata page. This will prevent people from having to travel long distances and having to wake up so early. Region 4 alone needs about 4 passport offices from Mahaica all the way to the East Bank.

A corrupt society is a burden on the average citizen of that country, especially, on the poor ones. But, not, on the politicians, wealthy and rich because they strive when there is corruption. Also, another sad thing in Guyana is if the you a victim of corruption in Guyana, who can you complain to? Nobody! Because corruption is so acceptable and widespread in Guyana that you might be complaining or reporting to a person that would easily accept money to frustrate your claim.

Our history and culture of corruption, bribery and shakedown in Guyana could be one of reason why things are so chaotic when doing business with government offices and even private businesses in Guyana. Government offices and private businesses have layers of paperwork instead of digitalization because it’s facilitate corruption, hence long line and delays. This problem of long lines and delayed can be fixed with a one stop window using digitalization, but a one stop window would put an end to bribery, shakedown and corruption. And the power that be do not want end bribery and shakedown because it would take money out of their own pockets. Digitalization, also, would end all the corruption business practice that goes in Guyana when you go to stores, shops and businesses to purchase and pay for things and items because those businesses has 2 or 3 books that they use to keep their business transactions and use as their records to present to the Guyana Revenue Service. More corruption because they have one book for themselves and 2 books for the GRA. You can steal money when you are keeping your transaction and records in books but you cannot when your business transactions and records are digitalized. It is very hard change a culture is accustomed to illegally shaking people down for money. For example, just look at the Guyana Police Force, we all experience being stop Guyana Police Force when driving our cars. They are like vultures and parasites out there preying on some innocent drivers, shaking them down for money. All part of our Guyanese culture from the highest position in Guyana to the lowest. Just look at all of our corrupted and crooked politicians and political people and officials in Guyana. If they are corrupted and crooked, what do we expect from the lowest ranks.

In my opinion, the passport office no longer processes and prints passports on the same day. They claim that when they print passports, people don't return to uplift them, which they see as wastage. Instead, when you return to uplift your passport, that's when they print it. Previously, you could apply between working hours from 8 am to 4:30 pm. However, the process has changed; they now accept applications in the morning and issue passports in the afternoon. This process needs to change.

The videos and photos used in the video are from late March. Every day isn't overloaded, but a random citizens can't be expected to know that. Regardless, that doesn't change the problems with the crowd management, application processing and the facilities.

IT took 28 years for the PNC to set up this same system,and4 more years under the apnu PNC AFC government.now it's 3 years under the ppp government.you did not for 32 years.you are not fair.

Ridiculous comment. The system was decentralised in 2016. The reliance on paper was still an issue, however, the load on the office was significantly reduced and processing times were faster. Why didn't they pursue decentralisation prior to 2015? Why not now? The irony is that neither party nor government was blamed or mentioned in the video, but here you are ready to defend and deflect. Take that somewhere else.
