Larry Bird was one of the games greatest trash talkers. Thanks to his extreme confidence and ability to back up everything he said, Bird provided us with some of the greatest moments in NBA history. Larry Bird had a well known rivalry with Magic Johnson and the Lakers but today we take a look back at a more forgotten rivalry with Chuck Person.

I was at this game. The BEST game I've ever seen. While they showed you larry running out of the tunnel with his warm up on, they didn't show him ripping it off like superman. The place totally erupted. Then Larry did, too. What a competitive player!

Pat Riley said it better than anyone can. Some years ago, he was asked about who he believed was the most clutch player in the pros. He said: " If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game, I'd choose Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, I'd take Larry Bird ".

Very tired self serving nonsense trope by Riley to enhance his own stature as he beat Boston 2 out of 3 in Finals. LB NEVER hit a single GW in last minute or buzzer beater in a playoff or finals game. Not one. Name it? However, he did miss WIDE OPEN corner 3 in Gm#4 in 87 Finals. Also lost twice in finals (Celtics went 16-15 in his finals games BTW - that's barely a winning record) MJ 6-0 with 6 finals MVPs. MJ hit multiple - there's The Shot vs Cleveland in deciding Game #5 in 89. Hit then record Six 3s in 1st half vs Portland Game #1 in 92. 55 in series finale vs Phoenix in 93 - avg 41 that series too - most ever in finals. GW at buzzer vs Utah Gm#1 in 97, Series winning GW vs Utah Gm #6 in 98. MJ also has still standing record for most pts in a playoff game with 63 vs Boston in 86. LBs playoff career high 43 vs Detroit and once had 34 in finals game. Also had consecutive 8 point 3 for 11 dud finals games vs Houston in 81 (games 3 & 4). Spare us this nonsense of LB shooting for our lives - we'd all be dead.

I cite DEMONSTRABLE FACTS - you agree with sycophantic opinions. How bout career 32 k pts to 21 k pts? Or 6-0 in NBA championships while hitting GW in 81 NCAA final to a LOSER in 85 & 87 finals who also stunk up 79 NCAA final with a 7 for 21, 6 TOs dud while losing to Magic (who MJ beat in 91 NBA final). How bout 1 of 2 players with 30 ppg avg lifetime (Wilt is the other) while LB is not even his franchise leading scorer - John Havlicek is & scored 5 THOUSAND more points and won 5 more championships (that would EIGHT) than LB did (without a loss BTW). You embarrass yourself with your misguided hero worship. The world is still waiting for LB to hit a GW shot in a playoff or final. Name it?

There was a rumor though that the Pacers were taking with the Celtics to trade Bird for Person. This was around the end of Bird’s career.
I’m a Pacers fan and I’ve just never understood why the Pacers didn’t draft Bird. They would have had trouble suffering through Bird’s final year in college but if they had drafted Bird it totally would have changed the history of not only the Pacers but the NBA. Just some context for younger viewers. By 1991 Larry Bird had sustained so many different injuries but just between his bone spurs being imbedded in his achilles tendons and destroying his back from an incident when installing a new driveway at his mom's house in 1986, he was maybe 30-40% of his prime during this Indiana Pacers playoff series. In early/mid 1980's he won league MVP 3 YEARS in a row and won three NBA championships as well. Absolute undisputed GOAT for his position all-time.

I was in such denial of how great this man was. I just finished a coffee table book on the guy & 80's-90's- NBA & I still cant stop writing about him. i truly feel..best over-all player of all time.
No one hadda impact like Chamberlain. We are still catching up to HIS greatness. The record book himself...I can't put anyone above him. But Larry Joe , All-around play on both sides of the court & last second clutch master....Larry is on top there.
