I hope this backwards compatibility news is correct. Backwards compatibility is extremely important to me just because my Switch OLED is my first Nintendo console since 1996 when I started college and switched over from my Super Nintendo to a PlayStation. Every since then I gave up on Nintendo and I went from the PlayStation to the Dreamcast and then became an Xbox fan. I've only had my Switch OLED For a little over 2 years. I have 21 physical games for it and even though my Xbox Series X is my favorite console in my PlayStation 5 is my second favorite console It's very important to me that the next Nintendo is backwards compatible because I want to be able to play all my physical games on the new Nintendo and not have to dock my Switch whenever I want to play any of my current Switch games.
Same here, I ain't upgrading if it isn't backwards compatibility, instead I'm getting a ps5 or Xbox x/s Instead
My switch OLED is my first Nintendo system since the Wii. I’ve had way more Nintendo systems than any other system a few of them. mostly the handheld systems with the N64 and we the other Home consoles I’ve had from the Nintendo I only have a Nintendo switch because I’m not interested in PS5 or Xbox as I feel those system represents what’s wrong with modern gaming as well as PC. I love my Nintendo Switch and it’s my favourite system by far become a Nintendo fan again and I’m not interested in any other system outside of the successor to the current switch for Nintendo is the only good thing we have left the gaming and the switch is the best system in the market. In my opinion it has the best games library and it has the best exclusives nobody can touch Nintendo when it comes to exclusives.
I mean I think it was hinder the initial sales of the system to start. The only reason I can see them not making it backwards compatible is so they resell major 1st party games as switch 2 versions.
I mean it makes sense, that switch 2 has backwards compatibility.
1. Nintendo's history strongly suggests this. Every console in recent years had backwards compatibility.
GB -> GBC
GB -> GBA
GBC -> GBA
GC -> Wii
GBA -> DS
DS -> 3DS
Wii -> Wii U
The Switch being an easily explained exception. Wii U Discs won't fit; there is no second screen for 3DS. Nintendo would have had to make major compromises to make the Switch backwards compatible.
2. This rumor by NatetheHate (who seems to be very reliable).
3. There was a rumor some time ago, that GameFreak had a Switch 2 patch for their Game in the works.
Imagine if Nintendo had a superbowl commercial teasing the Switch 2 and announcing the date of an upcoming reveal event!

Maybe... Nintendo is still pretty old school when it comes to some stuff marketing wise....super bowl is one of the biggest American events of the year where everyone is glued to the TV and expect insane hilarious commercials

I bought "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" on Wii U first and when i FINALLY bought it for the Nintendo Switch(after I BOUGHT a Nintendo Switch!!) I was saddened to find out that saves didn't transfer!! 😭😭😭😭 I'm not holding my breath…
Well, saves won't transfer, but the issue is being able to play digital and physical versions.
The Wii U was a commercial failure, so it did not have a huge player base that Nintendo needed to persuade to go on to the Switch.
The Switch is the second best-selling console ever, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some backwards capability.
In addition, Nintendo have already talked about carrying over your Switch accounts, which they didn't do with the Wii U.
@@makasete30 yeah maybe… but I'm a late-bloomer/late-adoptor/late-comer, a lot of times… I wasn't paying attention to the market like that when I purchased it as I was a Zelda fan and technically wanted the Wii U Zelda edition… but I never got it… I got the regular 32GB Black Wii U… I was Ok with that as I was Ok with Myspace and didn't get a Facebook account until I got an email asking if I created it… i said yes and took it over… heck the earliest purchased system I got was when the Wii came out!!
@@makasete30 Nintendo has a history of botching the console immediately following commercial sucesses. I put no stupidity past them.
I think what I take from the hubbub about the ability to update/upgrade is probably, the most that will really be done with it is potentially uncapping framerates...I don't see many developers, Nintendo included, making a bunch of QoL updates to older titles, but I can see them making adjustements on games like Witcher 3, TotK, and the like to be able to get up above 30 fps. That or just the ability to tweak things if there are little weirdness issues going on.

I’m very glad to hear that BC is highly likely for the NS2. What I want for the system and for Nintendo are Achievements/Trophies like system for the games.

It has a hybrid card slot for switch cartridge and successor cartridge new style also a micro sd card slot. Be excited.
That's kind of bad if can't bring it on the go due to that restriction, but there is probably a reason. AKA the MIG Cart.

I think you're right about nintendo doing a full reveal in march. We aren't just getting a concept trailer like with the switch. They've already done that type of marketing, it won't work again. They need to show why this model is an upgrade. I think they do a maybe 40 minute presentation where they show the hardware, gimmicks but also the matrix demo + a few games and they do it very soon after a simple reveal tweet
I’d like to see a Wii & DS Library gets released in a Nintendo Switch Online on the Switch 2,it would make up for a lot because of getting Players of all Nintendo Consoles Generations to buy the Upcoming Successor of the Best-selling Hybrid System
I think the direct WILL tease the system, but If they make it bc I’m sold , at this moment I’m considering a steam deck but I’ve been waiting for an official announcement until I decide and personally I’m not gonna get a switch 2 until the switch 1 is no longer supported. I really hope backwards compatibility is definitely a factual thing because let’s be honest, it’s NEEDED! It should be THE STANDARD across all consoles, not just Nintendo.
I have most games physical, I'd be heartbroken if they'd only depend on the lifespan of my current switch...I so hope this is true
I think there's a good chance backward compatibility among Nintendo games is going to be the norm going forward, at least to a large degree. I could understand the idea of making cartridges smaller and smaller as technology changed. However, we're pretty much at the point where it doesn't make sense for a cartridge to be any smaller than a current switch game, especially for children. If they already have to put bad tasting chemicals onto a switch game to discourage children from accidentally swallowing them, then I don't see why making them any smaller or of any different size is of value. That could easily be the new baseline shape going forward, even if connection points on future games could change.
I really hope this is true I was disappointed with Sony for no backwards compatibility and Microsoft small backwards compatibility I would have liked to have all my library working on them both
I would happily pay $10 for upgrades versions of Bayanetta 3, Borderlands 3, and Harry Potter.
It is now the Norm to allow the previous generation to play on the new generation, Hopefully Nintendo will follow suit. Its not like were asking for 3ds games or wii U, we just want the previous generation, it can be done if they work on it from the beginning. My friend who worked on the PS5 told me that as long as backwords compatibility is considered from the beginning of development than it will happen but if it is considered after development has already begun than it probably wont happen or it will be some digital titles like with the ps4 getting some digital ps3 titles.
Switch 2 back compat is crit. Most people i think really want better resolution/performance. This gen is too good. These games deserve better hardware.

I think we see a vague trailer for the new Pokemon game. No gameplay so it's not revealing the graphics as it'll be a Switch 2 game. And when the Switch 2 announcement is there we see the game in action.

Switch is selling way too well to suddenly leave it in the dust with no backwards compatibility. Nintendo will surely be smart enough to let Switch 1 games continue to be played, or it’ll hurt sales.

I totally preffers BC the way PS5 do with PS4. I don't care about enhanced, i mean is ok as an option, but my first, main concern is, can a put my cart and play as it was a Switch 1? The Same way PS5 does, i don't want to have to download a new specialize build like XB does with XB360.

Thats great and all but i want my custom themes. I want themes to return. The 3ds did wonderfully with them and i want them back. Heck, port the old themes* to it and make newer ones for the newer titles.
*Background themes, not application themes.
Though, speaking of, I want the eshop and system settings to have themes reintegrated.
Mind you, these are my wishes. The Switch just feels lifeless without them.

Persona 3 could’ve come to switch easily and stop exaggerated about the Switchboard slow. It’s fine. I don’t care about streetfighter six outside of street fighter two I have not cared for street fighter people like you are the reason why modern gaming sucks. Nintendo is the only thing we have left about modern gaming and the current switch is still the best is on the market of this generation, it has the best games and nobody can touch Nintendo for exclusives.

They stopped updating acnh as the same team who worked on animal crossing started on splatoon 3 followed by the splatoon 3 dlc. But the splatoon dlc has arrived now. This is where they now have time to work on the next animal crossing for the brand new hardware. The team only works on one game at a time so don't expect anything for a while yet as it was 5 years between the last ac game and acnh release. So we are potentially looking at 2025 for the next ac.
backwards compatibility great idea, even greater idea adding text to speech to your systems and games so people that are blind and visually impaired can play just like Sony and Microsoft with the PlayStation and Xbox respectively.
It HAS to be backwards compatible, its the seal the makes the deal with all fans, such a huge library would be lost if it dosn't happen.
But nintendo has been shown to be clever with that, nes with snes, i hear n64 could run snes cartridge but i don't believe it, gamecube with wii, wii with wii u, switch 2 has to be backwards compatible at this point.

If they don’t do backwards compatibility; the Switch 2 will fail. There are too many people who have a switch; to alienate old customers would be a horrible move. They’ve done enough rinsing and repeating with the old/failed Wii U game ports.

I really hope B.C is a real thing on the switch 2. I have over 120 physical switch games so far and not being able 2 play them on the new hardware would be a killer!
Even if the switch 2 can only play the OG switch games in origonal 720p in handheld and will play new games useing the full power of the new hardware that would be fine with me.
I play all games in handheld anyway, and would be happy aslong as the new switch can play them at all tbh.

There is absolutely NO way this is false information. Nintendo know having the ability to play Switch games on Switch 2 is gonna be extremely important in order to get more people to buy it. If the Switch had been a dud like the Wii U it would be a different story.

More like breaking rumors/leaks. This is almost 100% certain by common sense and by current trend in consoles today. If nintendo doesn't do backwards, they lose money. That's just how it is.

also 10 dollar upgrades will probably be up to the developer, they're putting more work in, they'd want reward (in a lot of cases). I think it's fine. I will pay for ray tracing, better textures, anti aliasing, unlocked framerates etc depending on the developer.
What is wrong with Nintendo releasing a lot of the successful current switch games on the new system in my opinion I would love to see Mario Odyssey with better graphics and a better frame rate. Obviously not every game should be remastered but the best ones Mario Odyssey, Mario kart eight deluxe I wouldn’t see you could completed if it was PlayStation because I don’t believe you’re a true Nintendo fan.
