Life saver!! I went through the whole troubleshooting process with amazon and they told me I’d have to buy a new kindle. I decided I had nothing to lose and started to try and find solutions. This is the only thing that worked!! My kindle is saved and I don’t have to buy a new one! Thank you 🙌🏼

This really worked! Saved my new kindle which I did not use for a few weeks. There are lots of videos teaching how to restart and press with an ember light but mine had no light at all to start with. Saw this video and it worked and ember light came back on. Charged 2 hours and it is back to 100%. Thanks !

Thanks for the video. I opened the kindle and removed the connector as described. I didn't even have to short the battery. Refixing the connector worked just fine. Much appreciated!

Corporate Nazis at Amazon customer support refused to send another Kindle Paperwhite for free because it had passed its 12 month period of warranty by just 28 days. Offered me a 15% discount on a replacement. Followed this video instead and now it works. It's a leap of faith to start taking it to pieces but it was really simple. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hey thank you for this walk though... i actually only had to get the back of.. pull the battery apart... and then i sprayed a bit of deoxit in there and put it back together... and now my light is on at least... thanks for the walk though video! Fingers crossed but now that i have the light alive again i like my chances.
I don’t know why it worked but thankful it did. I tried all other troubleshooting and was resigned to purchasing a new kindle. Saw this and thought, what do I have to lose at this point and oh my word it actually worked, Thank you!

My paper white was two years old when this happened to mine, I’d hardly used it so don’t think the battery could die. I had very shaky hands while following the instructions and really thought my blade would do more damage but it worked, big thank you

literally thought it was a gonner, left it not charged for months and the exlamation popped up. no light on when charging. This worked and fixed the problem even though the 40 sec hold thing did not work. Use this trick!

Brilliant. I did not even need to remove the battery terminal - just wiggle it and when I tried the power source the light came on ready to charge I'd spent the morning on the phone to Amazon and the kindle paperwhite was only 18 months old. Amazon offered me 15% then 20 then 25 then 30% off a new one - but why bother bying that if it is going to die in 18 months. Thank yoo

It worked... why does this work?! I just gave it a prod with a tweezer haha. Before I found this video, I was speaking with amazon support and told them that my device was completely dead, wouldn't charge and there was no light. Their advice was that I had to reset the device... to do this I was told to first turn it on and connect it to the internet... ?!

Hi, what can be done to prevent the battery from draining fast?
I just got mine today around lunch time and the factory charge is at 51%. Right now it's only 20%. I am on Energy Saving mode, Airplane mode, No page refresh. I reset it and it has the same issue.

Thanks! I used a single edge razor to create space and then credit card. To short circuit I used Swiss Army knife tweezers. I was wondering how I’d know if the short circuit was working and then sparkles came up haha

If the orange light doesn't come on, then this method WORKS. I used it on a 2019 paperwhite, which is very different involving about 10 little screws, a smaller battery with a different terminal, but a brief shorting of the red and black terminals did the trick, and the battery was soon taking a charge. Might be more hazardous shorting a battery that wasn't completely flat, though ? Anyway thanks very much
