One thing about counter-strike is that the Ts and CTs have different third-person animations. Ts are generally firing from the hip, while CTs will actually shoulder and fire most rifles.
The Far Cry 2 malfunctions were a measure to give the player access to guns NPCs had, but prevent them getting powerful weapons early to keep. Guns would degrade rapidly and then break. Otherwise, you have to unlock and buy the same weapons that you get to keep, which last longer.
What you can do to make magchanges that fast, is tape them together. This is not unheard of in real combat, and it makes a huge difference. However, once you reach for mag #3 you`re back to the slow exchange rate again. Thanks for getting Ian to do this, he delivered like always.
Props to IGN. Big fan of pairing entertainment and informative expertise. I’m glad this is catching on across the board. Jonathan and Ian are wonderful
Just in case Ian reads this: The CSGO AKs bullets don't actually go where the crosshair is. All the crosshair really does is show you where the first bullet will go, the rest of the bullets are going to start climbing so you need to pull the crosshair down and essentially aim below the enemy. It has a spray pattern you need to memorise and practice to effectively hit anything when spraying. CS is notoriously hard for noobs because it is counter-intuitive to other games where the bullets will go where your crosshair is, on top of having movement inaccuracy and you need to be standing almost still to be able to hit anything. The CSGO AK will actually kill in 3 - 4 bullets depending on where you hit but it's hard to keep bullets on target, especially at medium ranges.
indeed OSOK headshot 3-4 core-body shots. CS is a fairly unforgiving as games go regarding inbound damage, including when armoured. hell, it's one of the few games that still lets shotguns do pretty much anything beyond fistfight ranges. it made my 2-3 playthroughs of OG half life with the counter-life mod highly enjoyable.
"Gun Expert" understatement of the century. Use his true title: Our Lord and Savior born of Iron and Lead, anointed with CLP bearing incense of cordite Gun Jesus Ian
It's funny hearing Ian rag on the AK's lack of one shot potential in Counter-Strike when it's favoured by the community exactly for its one shot potential.
Headshot only tho. Taking a round in the chest will either kill you or put you down 99% of the time. The AWP behaves the most realistically for any given rifle.
I'm sure Ian would be happy to tell you that the AK's long-stroke gas piston system generates an upward torque on the rifle, which can contribute to that sweet muzzle rise that makes AK bursts so OP in CS. The M4's gas system keeps the bolt's mass more in line with the barrel (and the stock) and should generally exhibit less muzzle climb.
Indeed, the clips they used to illustrate show people not hitting their target because they are shooting while moving, which is also something he would like
Should've given him a look at Rising Storm: Vietnam! It's got the Verdun-style very high realism, and it has multiple AK variants usable including both AKM and 2 styles of Chinese Type 56.
Keep it up guys. We need more and more real knowledge going into firearms in games. And there is no better choice than Gun Jesus. Show him Tarkov next.
problem is the casuals and mainstream streamers dont play simulators.... thats why CoD is so popular and BF, nothing says like using a gun whilst ADS bunny hoping or sprinting and sliding 50meters whilst ADS.
5:30 As Jonathan points out in the GameSpot video on Guns of Far Cry 2, there’s a mechanic where they try to incorporate wear and tear but do so in such an exaggerated fashion that any gun becomes useless and even dangerous after more than an hour’s use. It’s a nice idea in theory, it’s just the method of execution is aggravating.
As far as Far Cry 2, the AK exploding was done on the premise that your gun wears out with a lot of use. Over time, things like head spacing (position where the cartridge is locked into battery inside the breach in it's "ready" state) goes out of whack from overheating and general wear (It is a controlled explosion going off inside the weapon after all) - which increases the odds of an out-of-battery detonation. An AK fired in high volumes and overheating will reach this threshold a lot quicker than an AK that is fired in moderation, with the barrel kept at reasonable temperatures (as in not hot enough for it to double as a cigarette lighter). Since Far Cry 2 is set in some war-torn fictional country in Africa, the weapons are thought to be recycled from previous conflicts. Meaning the guns have a lot of wear and tear on them already - hence why they break down so quickly. Played Far Cry 2 a lot back in those days. Had lots of fun with it.
They're also probably the most cruddy of guns too. They look so haphazardly thrown around; it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect them to be filled with grime. That would lend to a malfunction or failure.
@@mattmurphy7030 1) If a round is not in a chamber that it is designed for, the brass or steel cartridge casing will not hold form and will fragment outward. Does that sound like an explosion to you? Point stands. 2) Not chamber wear. Barrel and receiver wear. A rifle that is not being maintained (ie: like the conditions presented) will be more prone to having a catastrophic malfunction due to these parts breaking loose. 3) While jamming and other malfunctions are more common when this begins to happen, you can bring on a catastrophic failure if you continue to use the weapon without replacing parts. 4) You should probably stop watching James Yeager. Your attitude very much reflects it. You listen to an asshat, you start sounding like an asshat.
On the "unrealistically fast reloads" point: one of the Battlefield games had rare random reload events for certain guns that were very silly. One of them was literally, as Ian suggested, somebody handing you a new mag from off-screen.
Love Ian, but from IGN’s point of view, not including Escape from Tarkov in a video comparing Ak’s in games is a massive oversight. Especially when the Gamespot videos that you are copying had Tarkov a long time ago.
The original Ghost Recon was more toward the "bullets are deadly" side of the spectrum. Sometimes getting shot left you wounded, but get hit somewhere vital, even once, and you were gone.
Don't forget that this is IGN. Honestly the video is garbage even with Ian in it. Not a single game that cares about realism was shown: no Insurgency Sandstorm, no Squad, no EFT, no Rising Storm Vietnam.
That's only true until you start actually shooting them, and find out that e.g. bullets come out of your scope (rather than the barrel) when zoomed in...
I'dd love to see Ian review ArmA 3 with ACE3 mod, and witness gun heating, ammo cookoffs, jams and all the fun realism details that makes it more of a simulator than a game.
One other andvantage of taking off the stock from an AK is that is is easier to aim in close quartes where u dont really aim down the sights anyway. So the stock just makes it so that u cant react as free and fast since u basically spray and pray anyway

This guy's CZcams channel is actually pretty cool, been watching his vids for a couple years now he shows off a lot of older rare guns and really goes into detail about their history.
One thing about counter-strike is that the Ts and CTs have different third-person animations. Ts are generally firing from the hip, while CTs will actually shoulder and fire most rifles.
I’d like to see him go over the weapons in Squad, or Post Scriptum!

The Far Cry 2 malfunctions were a measure to give the player access to guns NPCs had, but prevent them getting powerful weapons early to keep. Guns would degrade rapidly and then break.
Otherwise, you have to unlock and buy the same weapons that you get to keep, which last longer.

Ian is a great expert to have on reacting to guns in games.
Ian is the man. His knowledge and how well he delivers that to viewers is top notch!
To be fair, Ian is the best pick, absolute legend.
What you can do to make magchanges that fast, is tape them together. This is not unheard of in real combat, and it makes a huge difference. However, once you reach for mag #3 you`re back to the slow exchange rate again.
Thanks for getting Ian to do this, he delivered like always.
Nice one. Let Ian review guns from Hunt showdown. They are exotic, old and in part french. So right down his alley
And now with addition of Berthier, it became even more appealing and French)
you had him at "french" lol
Props to IGN. Big fan of pairing entertainment and informative expertise.
I’m glad this is catching on across the board.
Jonathan and Ian are wonderful
Really feel like Receiver 2 shoulda been in the list somewhere since that's got so many mechanics Ian would've been able to talk about.
*Bold move Cotton. Let see how it goes for him*
The Gun Jesus is well versed in memelogy. Praise be upon Him!
Him calling for a "cultural expert" for the defiled AK in Warzone was icing on the cake.
The CSGO AK will actually kill in 3 - 4 bullets depending on where you hit but it's hard to keep bullets on target, especially at medium ranges.
indeed
OSOK headshot 3-4 core-body shots.
Csgo is still unrealistic
CS:GO is absolutely dumps realism for gameplay and it's FAR better for it.
It isn't a mil sim and was never intended to be.
Ian and Jonatham both covering video game guns is a wonderful thing for the world.
"Gun Expert" understatement of the century. Use his true title: Our Lord and Savior born of Iron and Lead, anointed with CLP bearing incense of cordite Gun Jesus Ian
He is the Way and the Light.
Except sometimes the Light is MUZZLEFLASH!
Indeed, the clips they used to illustrate show people not hitting their target because they are shooting while moving, which is also something he would like
Any video with Ian is going to be an informative and entertaining. Please keep collaborating!!!
Ian has some of his coolest guns behind him.
how to get my respect back 101: feature Ian on your channel.
Should've given him a look at Rising Storm: Vietnam! It's got the Verdun-style very high realism, and it has multiple AK variants usable including both AKM and 2 styles of Chinese Type 56.
And/or Squad.

That last "blue thing" was an AK74 of some type or possibly an AK100 series in either 5.45 or 5.56...magazine was distinctively less curved.
Keep it up guys. We need more and more real knowledge going into firearms in games.
And there is no better choice than Gun Jesus.
Show him Tarkov next.

As Jonathan points out in the GameSpot video on Guns of Far Cry 2, there’s a mechanic where they try to incorporate wear and tear but do so in such an exaggerated fashion that any gun becomes useless and even dangerous after more than an hour’s use.
It’s a nice idea in theory, it’s just the method of execution is aggravating.
4:34 is that a wood upper handguard and a polymer lower? Cool!
It also explains why they look so wack. Clearly assembled from some 3rd world sweatshop. That's why it's got both rivets and a cut.
They're also probably the most cruddy of guns too. They look so haphazardly thrown around; it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect them to be filled with grime. That would lend to a malfunction or failure.
@@mattmurphy7030
1) If a round is not in a chamber that it is designed for, the brass or steel cartridge casing will not hold form and will fragment outward.
Yeah but still, the Ak of all guns should practically last you 100,000s of rounds before permanently blowing up.
nah the real reason is all the ammunition there use black powder
I'd love to see Ian react to Insurgency, Escape from Tarkov, and/or Squad. If you really want to get him rambling, make sure the gun is French. =]
Rising Storm 2 would be interesting. It has the MAS 49 and MAT 49.

Love Ian, but from IGN’s point of view, not including Escape from Tarkov in a video comparing Ak’s in games is a massive oversight. Especially when the Gamespot videos that you are copying had Tarkov a long time ago.
IGN decided to one up gamespot by having Gun Jesus on their channel

Damn they did just use an expert... They went straight to Gun Jesus.
The original Ghost Recon was more toward the "bullets are deadly" side of the spectrum. Sometimes getting shot left you wounded, but get hit somewhere vital, even once, and you were gone.
America's Army is another one.
Insurgency: Sandstorm should have been included, it really has some of the best representation of firearms in all of gaming

Don't forget that this is IGN. Honestly the video is garbage even with Ian in it. Not a single game that cares about realism was shown: no Insurgency Sandstorm, no Squad, no EFT, no Rising Storm Vietnam.
@@DschungelKatze That's not true. They showed Verdun, though that was only shown because Ian gave it as an example that gets firearms right. lol

Not showing Ian EFT has got to be a giant sin, everything he talked about wanting to see in a gun-centric videogame, is in Tarkov
