Having a routine really helps me with my diabetic kitty, too. He gets two shots of insulin a day with his meals, and he's such a good boy about it, even hopping onto the couch for the shot without any fuss.

For over 7 years I have administered insuline to my former cat Timmy. Finally, he lost the battle against diabetes and I had to have him put to sleep when he was nearly 16. He was a big, beautiful silver tabby. He passed 6 years ago and I still miss him dearly. He was such a fine character.

My big orange tabby, Carmel had Pancreatitis which eventually turned into Triaditis. The day came when he was in too much pain and was not going to get better. I had to let him go. I did not even have time to grieve because two weeks later his litter mate brother, Mocha stopped eating and now it has been 6 weeks since Carmel died and a month that I have been trying to keep Mocha going. This is so very difficult.

I wish I had found your channel a month ago. My cat passed last week and I'm devastated. The local Japanese vets are good, but they didn't give me much instruction on care of my cat and his kidney disease. I feel like I flubbed many things, especially with injections and IVs. I actually ran across your IV video by chance, by then it was a little too late for me in figuring out the correct spot to insert the needle. I'm keeping you in my subscription so when/if another cat chooses me as a cat dad, I'll be more educated on their care. Thank you for your channel.

I gave my Rosie transdermal methimazole twice daily for rhe last 3 or so years of his life. All in all, the cost was reasonable and I didn't have to fight with him to take pills. And he was a professional. He would hide it in the side of his mouth or under his tongue, then spit it out. You weren't getting him to submit; name rank and serial number, that's all that was required by the Geneva Convention, and that's all he would give. But seriously, he did live until 21 years and 3 days, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat..

We had to take her off the Prozac anyway as she developed severe side effects with urinary retention and was only peeing every 36 hours! We will just put up with her being a grumpy kitten to strangers. Though the vet said I have to come in with her from now on as she was much more cooperative with me in the room. @@HelpfulVancouverVet Thank you!! I got so excited when you said you were doing a video on that. That’s what my Lucy has and she has B12 injections, so all these videos are so incredibly helpful. I had to learn to give my cat meds over a quick video call from my vet because of covid, so this video is much more patient and easy to refer to.

@@karens9157 Good news for you then! A recent study showed that oral B12 supplementation is also adequate for theses cats. It probably depends on the degree of inflammation in the bowel, but with well controlled IBD you should be able to move from once weekly injections to daily oral supplementation, which is easier of course. Talk to your vet about it! The study is in either J Fel Med and Surg or JAVMA.

Hi. Today, I’m starting to give to my cat. My question is: Should I massage the cream on her ear until her skin to absorb it? Thanks!

This goes against what I was taught. Aren’t you supposed to rub it in? I have to use .7 ml and there really isn’t enough ear space for that. I put .35 on each ear but if I don’t run it in there’s a thick white coating. .

Hi Dr. Burstyn, do you have a video showing how to give a cat a subcutaneous injection? I've seen a couple of videos on other channels but they all seem to just run through it really quickly without explaining it as thoroughly as you do. I would appreciate any help about this; I have a sweet, gentle boy who runs and hides anytime he thinks someone is going to try to "scruff" him, because the people who had him before us did that whenever they were going to do something unpleasant ☹️. So I'm afraid to do it, but since I have to do it, I want to be able to do it right -- without causing him any unnecessary stress or trauma.

Dr. Uri, could you please address transitional cell carcinoma? My Bratty was diagnosed on a Saturday and had to be put down the following Wednesday as she had trouble urinating. We were together 17.5 years, and I am sick over it!

Creature's fur is so interesting! At first I thought she was a tortie but the red patches on silver torties look red/cream, not brown. I am so confused haha. Does she have mosaicism or something?

Do you find that transdermal has less side effects too? My kitty wasn’t feeling good (vomit and lethargy) on methimazole pill.

My sweet 16 boy also has hyperthyroidism for two years now and it’s been hard to regulate his thyroid but I’ve just become aware that he has lost his hearing almost completely or completely but I was wondering can the transdermal med dry up,as it does.I find it all over the floors sometimes and could it have fallen into his ears and clogged them up and caused the lack of hearing? We did have the vet check but she didn’t do anything else.Passed off as old age.I can’t help but have a gut feeling that this could be the issue?Or maybe just denial for me?

We're having luck in our 3rd week of hyperthyroidism pills and kidney dry food, taking easily. Our cat is 17 and although he is 'yowling at night' less, we are wondering if there is a med to give him to calm him further at night? A sedative? We are taking him for blood-work recheck in about a week. Thank you, love your channel.

I think wearing a glove is better because it absorbs into human skin just as easily.
