You mention cleaning the ear each day before applying the new cream to make sure you're not putting it on old dried cream. How/What would you recommend for doing that? wet cotton ball comes to mind?

Yes, you could absorb it if you were repeatedly touching the area where you applied it. Be sure it is applied in the ear tip. If you apply it in the morning, you could use a soft moist cloth to gently wash the area before bedtime. This would remove any excess residue. Today was the 1st time using this pen. My cat likes when I rub his ears.. so that’s not a problem, but my pen has a like sponge tip and it’s kinda hard to tell if there’s anything on it so I have no idea if he got anything. 😩 I’m nervous doing this.. yes I wear gloves but I also have hyperthyroidism and I don’t wanna accidentally get more methimazole in me.
@@kims1941 I pay $42.50 a month. But I think I’m going to go back to the pills, they’re so much cheaper, I can get them on chewy for I think it’s 11.99 a month. And can hide them in his food. he is actually putting on weight finally he was 6.5 lbs it’s been a month and he’s finally 7lbs.
Also my cat sees me coming and will try to run, once I get to him though and talk to him he calms down. Left ear he’s fine right ear not so much. But now I have to give him eye ointment , now THAT is awful …..my sweet kitty scratched the crap outta me the last day I gave it to him.
The one we got is nothing like this. We have to apply a full "rotation" which is like 10 clicks. Also nothing came out of it for wayyy too many rotations, we thought they were broken... then suddenly a huge glob came flying out of the pen. Wish we had the one shown in the video here... lol
Yes, the click will give the same amount of medication. The tip just allows for easier application. I would suggest reaching out to the pharmacy where you purchased it though.

Hi Misty, Each click is only 0.05ml which is a very small amount of cream. That is intentional so that you do not have to apply much to the cat's ear. However, you should call the pharmacy where you had the Rx filled to confirm the dosage per click.
Hello, my cat gets 0.05 MG of Methimazol 2x a day. She cleans her ears as normally, but when I kiss her head, I can taste bitter taste on my lips! I suppose it's from her washing her ears and gets some medication on her fur. Is it dangerous for her to to digest? She doesn't wash right after the application, but I still worry. Thoughts?
Methimazole is also taken by mouth, so it will not hurt your cat if she were to get some in her mouth. You may want to use a warm cloth the wipe off her head to minimize your exposure.

Our cat is fearful when I use a whole glove. What I ended up doing is getting a glove and cutting the fingers off. I glove my finger with the medicine and the cat does not seem to mind. Then I wash my hands when done. I can get four to five uses from one glove.

We recommend alternating ears whenever possible. You could either switch drugs/sides every other day or do one drug in the morning and one at night (unless the DVM has instructed a particular time of day for application). Just make sure the medication is on the ear tip for at least 6 hours before wiping away any cream residue. Unfortunately, the ear pinna is the only place that is hairless and the cat won't lick it off. Feel free to call our pharmacists if you have any other questions.

A washcloth dampened with warm water or a baby wipe works great.

Oh no! I guess there are cats that just don't like their ears touched. Maybe a tuna or chicken flavored oral liquid would be better.
