You've been asking me to get this song for years and finally I'm pleased to bring it to you! Unfortunately as I already explained KHχ Back Cover was made in a way that you can't extract music from its cutscenes (they're just videos with all audio channels mixed) so the only way to get the song was waiting for an official release or raiding Square Enix's offices. I tried myself the second option but Nomura caugh me again before I could get out with all KH2 Betas. (Next time we'll go together~).
Anyways, the song is pretty interesting and seems to mix many themes that we'll probably end up seeing in the future of the series, I feel like it may end up being some kind of "Another Side" a key song of the franchise that Yoko uses as a source to develop other songs (but I may be wrong). @@BigBoss-km9yz I mean, his advice to the foretellers wasn't bad at all, pretty much all of it has some merit. Telling invi to take initiative, asking Aced to support Ira, telling Gula he should try to find the traitor, telling Ava to stay out of the whole mess. The shadiest thing he did was give the go ahead on Ira trying to save everyone, but even for that Ira was clearly going to do it anyways, the MoM told him it wasn't going to work.

I think she was the only one he actually wanted to succeed in her task. Well I guess Luxu to but it is kinda of hard to tell what the Master of Masters wants.

This character theme is unlike any other song in the KH series. The melody is so eerie and chaotic in some parts that it makes me wonder if the person in that cloak is even human.
Not to mention, the black cloaks themselves were, aside from a few exceptions, the symbol of villains in the entire series. Of course, the foretellers didn't know that, even though, given the book of prophecies that they were, of course, given, they should've

I think so to, or rather that Master is one of the beings of Light.
Darkness and Light has been clashing, since the beginning of time, and Master explained that this conflict always was present and is called the "Keyblade War".
The Master sort of confirmed in the "Cornerstones of the World Rebirth" that the Darknss that he and the other wielders battled during his time assumed the form that was similiar to the Master and the other wielders. Luxu asked, if they were humans; to which the Master replied that he "didn't say that" -- to me it is an indirect confirmation that the Light and the Darkness, the forces themselves might be conscious. It'd make sense for the Master to be a "scaredy cat" if he is the creation of Light, and his heart can only contain Light.
Given that he said that he is "tired by War" before setting up the destruction of Daybreak Town, I think this dude can't escape being a slave of Light, and wants to free himself from the duty of a wielder by fucking over both Light and Darkness. It'd make sense for him to search for answers in the "unreality" i.e Quadratum, if the "unreality" itself was said by Xehanort to be "neither of Light, nor of Darkness" i.e free of the Keyblade War.

@Otneimica Not quite true: He doesn't want to do good, so much as he wants to annihilate the Darkness. Which could be seen as a good thing, since that's what we've been doing for the entire series… except that he doesn't care what's destroyed in the process, as long as his counterpart ceases to exist.
As we've seen, he once destroyed the source of all worlds just so that he could directly manipulate events in the distant future.

What makes this work so well is just how much it clashes with MoM's personality. Or more specifically, what we know of it. This whole song feels like it's screaming at you that behind that fun facade, something is horribly, terribly wrong. The discordant piano keys give this song a vibe as if it were intentionally broken.
This better be his boss theme in the future

The most interesting thing about the theme of the Master is that unlike basically every other character theme in the series, it shares absolutely no leitmotifs with other characters. Given how much this series hypes up the power of the bonds shared between people, seeing someone who is almost completely alone both physically, emotionally, and musically be quite possibly the smartest and most powerful character in the franchise...that hypes me for him as a villain.
I love how wacky the piano notes are, so sudden in the midst of the somber chords. Really fits his personality.
This theme is just waiting for the chance to become the sickest final boss theme in the series, i can feel it.
Honestly with everything we've learnt about the Master of Masters from KHUX I don't think he's actually a villain but rather a guy whose gone through too much and is scrambling to hold onto his sanity while also trying to stop another war destroying even more lives. He's putting the few (Daybreak Town) after the many (literally everyone in modern/present universe KH). His theme goes from serious and calm, almost inspiring, to wacky and unhinged only to suddenly shift back into calm again but it comes off as eeiry, probably how the Foretellers felt around him before they got used to his antics.
This whole song is just "off" like a mad man sceeming a big plan losing his humanity or rather what I belive, the thought process of someone that was never human. The breadcrumbs of information we seen in union cross and back cover paints him as some giant force tricking everyone that they have the upper hand but never did. The more "errors" in his plan in union seem more deliberate traps than mishaps; no other human besides xeanort can do that and even then he didn't see that namine or terra can influence his plan to a big disagree. With final fantasy (not the characters) being more present in kh I think that the final battle won't be darkness but rather Lucifer (the kh version-ish of him)
Basically MoM is regecting light and darkness plus with daybreak town being represented by stars and Lucifer is also related to the "morning star", the town set in the morning where the stare in real life would be pretty easy to see even if the sun rose.
Idk I could be far off this is kh after all.
Those lighter calm moments REALLY stand out and make you wonder. Like inside of such a corrupted probably-not-quite-human being is a tiny ray of light?
I like how this song has motif that is clearly written so that it can be easily turned into a boss theme if needed. It honestly already sounds like a boss theme that is trying to keep itself from picking up pace too much.

I don't think you've mentioned that all the foretellers have names based on the 7 sins, just in latin.(Ira=Anger ; Ava=from Avaria which means greed I think.)
There's only one sin missing : Pride.
That one should logically belong to the Master of Masters.
And Lucifer is often associated with Pride as well.
Plus I think that on the weird box/chest that he gives to Luxu, it has been found that there is written:"X superb" on it.

I believe more than a black and white "Evil" or "Good" that people seem to cast on MoM, he's like his theme.
An agent of chaos, not for one side or the other. Not a player of the game, or a piece in the game, but rather the person who came up with the game. He's just setting up the rules for it, and seeing how it plays out.
They all wield keyblades, but someone out there's gotta be the one who makes the keys, right? A locksmith.
If KH ever truly gets a finale, it will be after defeating this guy. I'm hoping, to either this exact piece of music, or a renewed version at a later date.
He’s the man behind every ounce of suffering in the game and every ounce of good in the Game. He set the pieces up to kill thousands of people in a War meant only as a sacrifice to set things up, he openly admits to manipulating information in the book by not writing everything he saw down, just the stuff people “needed to know” aka the stuff he wanted people to see. He set Xehanort up to be a villain, he broke worlds apart, and anticipated every betrayal and death, and openly says that the people who have died in UX and the suffering of the worlds is not over because more worlds and more lives need to be sacrificed to kill Darkness.
he also created the Keyblades which has saved many lives and the universe, spread the seeds of Light that would save worlds from an Apocalypse, created a virtual haven for the Dandelions so they could be protected, lead Luxu on his path who would go on to help Xehanort and ready the would be heroes for what’s to come, MoM has saved as many lives as he’s destroyed and none of it comes from a place of good will or malevolence. Everything he’s done is in service of his goal to kill Darkness.
It is said that MoM might have studied the nature of X-blade, and thus able to spawn Keyblades like he did to his apprentices. But for some reason, he didn't let Luxu have his own, MoM bequeath Luxu his (The No-Name, in KH3 it looks like 13 parts of it assembled to create one X-blade).
Truly, he is full of unknowns.
Personally I think it's a fitting theme for a guy who's seen tons and tons of futures all at the same time, most implied to be horrible *without* the keyblade wars
Well it's not sure if Time in Kingdom Hearts is linear or Dynamic. If it's Dynamic than yes but if it's linear then the future is already set in stone from the beginning. The latter is implied by the existence of the No Name Keyblade, the Book of Prophecies and by the plot points Xigbar explained to Sora in DDD so your guess that he saw multiple futures isn't possible.

The writer always envisions his characters and their actions to be linear meaning that there is only one canon with their actions set in stone from the beginning. We don't understand/comprehend the full scale because we as the reader/player/etc. don't have the full Image of the piece.
What I want to say is looking at KH as a whole and from Nomura's perspective just shows that everything was set in stone from the beginning because if some past event changed then that wouldn't be the canon Timeline anymore but a different one.
I really never knew Yoko Shimomura could do dissonant tracks but this is honestly one of the best themes in the series (arguably, the best - but I'm biased from finally hearing the full track in all its glory). This and Yozora's battle theme really give me hope for the level of complexity we're about to see in KH.

What I like about the random chaotic piano chords is that yeah they're random and chaotic but they're also in time and on beat too- this song fucking rules dude lol i can't wait to see what this guy does; we've gotten what, 15 minutes of screen time for him, and he's already light years cooler than Xehanort.
Just imagine if these distorted notes reveal an existing theme that's jumbled together. Like waiting a bit on Vanitas's theme were you hear Sora's theme.

I just love how up to this point, we don't even know if the MoM is good or bad. We gets hints pointing at some stuff, but otherwise he's been kept a mystery thus far. I think the music is representative of his personality and eclectic genius. 10/10

I LOVE this song. Might just be my favourite of the series in term of characters' themes. It reeks of danger and madness. Like a person that tries to act smooth and noble yet you can feel behind it a beast. Fitting for the master who manipulated everyone for his goal.

Well that doesn’t matter does it. What I meant was that we all thought that the person under the hood would be the master of masters, but Nomura pulled a fast one on us and made it xehanort. Melody of memory = MoM = Master of masters, he wanted to trick us and that my point.
Maybe MoM is related to sora like a great grandfather cause by his name and how he train the fortellers he could be one of the best keyboard weilders of all time and who else is one of the best keybpade weilders? Sora he could have got his skilled from mom

in a sense it does work since your resetting everything back to 0 by doing that, going to save the world by lights way is just a tempt solution while making darkness much stronger since both side get stronger eventually but destroying everything even light and darkness makes the playing field equal to the point you can actually fix the mistakes that happened as long as you know what your doing and not making it worse

I highly doubt that. Probably for the saga. Kh is like dbz...kind of. Nomura doesn’t write everything in advance, he writes the story as it goes on.
I kinda believe MoM is the true villain of the series. I mean, sure, Xehanort wasn't forced into doing what he did, but MoM kinda egged him on, giving him an ego, telling him that the world needs him. That, and made a group of people try to kill each other trying to prevent the world from ending. Idk, at the very least I think the whole "master puppeteer behind it all" character will end with MoM. I'm sure there will be new, more powerful threats as the series goes on but I dont think there will be someone pulling MoM's strings, even if he turns out to be a character we already know.

We all have our theories of his identity but since it can't be a known grown up of the KH cast since their voices don't change until their really old and MoM doesn't sound old it could only be a future version of a young character.
My bet is either on Sora or an entirely new character with would drastically lower the plot quality.

Having the ultimate reveal "Oh I am an evil version of you" is just too common, not to mention it's basically the theory of everyone around here. Of course, it depends on how it's done.
MoM had a different childhood than sora, so they can't be the same person. the greatest evil at that time was sentient darkness, not the heartless, nobodies, and unversed that sora has faced.
I like that this theme conveys how chaotic the MoM is under his personality. How beneath his joking exterior, there is a mastermind that has been planning 100 steps ahead of everyone else for centuries . As if he's playing 4-D chess and everyone else in the game is playing Candyland.

Yes, but no. The track could also represent the grand situation that MoM is in. He could be totally evil, or his goals can be far more complex. A person who is all knowing such as MoM would be exposed to darkness like no other. The song can represent his anguish and efforts to achieve his goals despite the oppositions. In the end the more obvious route is that he is indeed evil. We will see i guess lol

A fitting theme for a man who can see the future
A character's theme tells a lot about them.
What do we have here? A jovial guy who's serious when he needs to be.
But what does his theme tell us? It tells us that he has hours of clarity broken up by spells of Insanity.
I really hope that when we finally get the chance to fight him, he moves in a strange, unnatural way, maybe creating some truly twisted constructs with his Keyblade and such.

a little theory, what if the black box is actually a portal to another dimension? because the Master of Masters had known xeanorth in years past and realized the darkness that he possessed, it was clear that he wanted to "restart the world", for which he kept a special box in case the world was destroyed again, that's why he told luxu that the box contained "hope", which by the way xeanorth almost made it but sora stopped him. I do not know I explained well hehe
