i have a feeling that violin is used to portray sadness/strife. so the violin is being emphasized since kingdom hearts 2 because of the growing sadness/conflict in the series
IMHO she actually has a really distinct signature with both instruments, violin being mostly present in the unknown related tracks. Another one of her signature composition moves that I love about her battle tracks is the way she uses strings and brass instruments to mark the rhythmic parts
In Kingdom Hearts, she uses Violins on Antagonists. and Pianos on Protagonists.
I love how the important boss themes are essentially remasterings of the characters’ original themes. New, yet not forgetting their beginnings.

The writing for Xemnas has to be one my favorites like out of all the villains, his dialogue is just amazing.

The recusant sigil on his chest will become a part of him when he becomes their 13th vessel, meaning his name will have it too. Making him essentially named after the rebel who betrayed them (Roxas) again, but also having the sigil that is recognized to be part of Organization XIII, and Xehanorts obsession with the X-blade.
Xemnas, always at it with the clever wordplay.

The amazing segment in 1:50 is haunting, tragic and sinister. It’s like how Sora is so wrapped up in whooping Xemnas’s ass for his atrocities he has committed, but he’s so caught up in his darkness that he doesn’t realize he’s falling further and further into the trap. The organ at 2:01 was like Xehanort’s tentacles wrapping tighter and tighter around Sora as he tries and fails to escape.

I think it makes Dream Drop Distance more darker than it looks to be. For a KH game with dreams as the main theme, I've never expected it to go to this level.

This is Yoko Shimomura we're talking about here. She bests even Hans Zimmer with the things she's done not just for Kingdom Hearts, but for Final Fantasy as well
2:00 - 2:05 that part right there is so haunting all by it's self. It's like the little hint of madness deep down in the mind of Xemnas (or rather the original Xehanort's madness).

He's referring to the X on Sora's chest. Furthermore, since Kingdom Hearts takes a good part of its symbolics from catholicism, the localization team saw fit to use "recusant" instead of "heretic". The "Recusant's Sigil" is called the "Mark of Heresy" in Japan, which you may have seen if you watched some of the subbed scenes of 3D.

I didn't realize it at first, but part of Terra's theme is playing in the background of this track.

The notes don't exactly match up, but the consistent rhythm matches up exactly with Terra's theme. Which I think is interesting. Everybody usually thinks of Ansem and Xemnas as the heartless and nobody of Xehanort, but in reality they're the heartless and nobody of TERRANORT. The familiar rhythm but distorted notes of Terra's theme in Xemnas' music is a cool way of expressing that connection between Terra and Xemnas. It's still Terra, but twisted nearly beyond recognition.

I think this went to Xemnas' battle with Sora in KH3D. A tricky fight as far as I saw when my little bro did it.
I read on another vid you liked the bosses that switched their tactics better in KH games. I think KH2 they did that the most. Especially with the O13 members.
the Xemnas fight in KH3D is not that hard, the one against Ansem when your riku is way herder, all the bosses after that are nowhere near as hard in my opinion,
and your right, they did have alot of tactic switching in KH2, and thats why its one of my favorite games given you can't really tell whats going to happen. and i didn't say it about KH, it was about HK2.
really? the boss i had the hardest time against was ansum while in that long ass corridor. you know, the one where he fired those lazers at you after he smacked you to the other end of the room.
*shrugs* took me seven tries. but after that everything else was a breeze. fun game overall though.
bloodychuckle If you have custom firmware and download the fanmade English translation of BBS Final Mix (or just wait for HD 2.5 Remix if you have a PS3), try the optional bosses. Armor of the Master took me 8 minutes +/- on critical and No Heart...oh man. I can't even defeat the guy and I was WAY over leveled. O.O
Kingdom Hearts has the best battle music of all time! And this theme just made me remember why I enjoy listening to ost's.

Sure, he's not as hammy as Ansem, but he's still overly dramatic. Perpetual monotone is a term more suited for Young Xehanort and his mostly constant expression we all know and love: .____________________________________________.
The theme of that guy who is going through at least 3 levels of identity crisis at all given times. (pretty sure he peaks at 4.5 levels)

Due to Xehanort is in Terra's body and the two essentially mixed in there and conflicted. Its a huge mess.

Because Xemnas is the same kind of Nobody as Roxas and Naminé; he is made of the essence of the original being, but has a mind and will of his own. Being the Nobody of someone who never truly existed made him what he is.
"Ansem" (or Xehanort's Heartless, as I usually call him) is Master Xehanort in Heartless form; when he broke free from Terra's body, the remaining scraps of Xehanort's essence haphazardly combined with Terra's still-hijacked body to form Xemnas.
Ansem is also technically Terra's Heartless too. Especially since the Guardian is Terra's trapped heart, now part of Ansem SoD.
The mixed circumstances essentially made Ansem SoD and Xemnas their own beings than just Xehanort's Heartless and Nobody.
Same scenario with Roxas and Namine. Ultimately their own beings due to the strange circumstances
@@nightshroud9671 I guess so. I gave up trying to wrap my head around the lore a long time ago after it became apparent that Nomura began making stuff up as he went. A lot has changed for me in the ten years since I made that original comment. I still like the series overall, but I've kind of given up on it after KHIII. I haven't paid attention to any developments since, but there's a part of me that hopes KHIV will fix everything and make the series cool again.
There's no better feeling than making sure the music lines up at 2:00 while you're dashing across skyscrapers to pound Xemnas' ass after he just tossed a dozen of them at you.

@1:20 of this song, you can hear part of the music that is being played at the final fight against Xemnas in KH2... Skip to 2:27 of that song and you'll hear it clearly.

Not really sure if it contains all of those themes, but I do think that the heavy string section in the background is a nod to Terra, since Xemnas has all of his memories.
