    I simply love the sound of the F-Type R. I'm a Yank in the US who lived in England and West Germany for several years in the 1980s. While there, I owned several cars, not the least of which was a 1976 XJ6. It was a beautiful, beautiful car. Over the course of my 60 years, I have owned almost 80 cars, the vast majority of them, irresponsible V8 4, 5 and 6 speed manual cars. Today I own two 5th Gen Camaro SS/RS cars. Of all the cars I have owned, the C5 Z06 has had the best exhaust sound, followed up by my 09 Mustang GT. The F-Type R kills them both, hands down. I have started looking for one of these beauties, but here in the US, they are hard to come by at a fair price.
    Another great video, sir!

    Have had one F Type spontaneously combust (threw a rod), and brought another because of that glorious exhaust. Ive owned MUCH faster cars, but the visceral rage of the F Type v8 gives goosebumps every damn time. The supercharger is there, but ive never noticed the whine that you get with Hellcats/GT350s etc.
    The 458 is also quite special but not worth 4 F Types IMO. The only other exhaust that gave me them feels was a Brabus tuned Mercedes v12. Props to Jaguar, the XJ220, XKR, XF etc were nice but the F Type came outta nowhere

    • @RyneLanders
      @RyneLanders Před 6 měsíci +1

      I've had 3 XKRs, from the 4.2L to 2 with the same supercharged 5L of the F-Type. On the 4.2L you could hear the supercharger whine which I loved. It had that bark and deep growl of the Jaguar, but also that slight whine of the supercharger that is so addictive to hear. On the 5L, they used a different type of supercharger and supposedly put a silencer in the engine compartment to reduce the whine because it was deemed to be too annoying for drivers. 😢
      I'd love to get it back; supposedly some cheap modifications like a different air filter can help return some of that noise.

    • @wraith8323
      @wraith8323 Před 6 měsíci

      @@RyneLanders Supercharger whine, turbo wastegates and exhaust valves should all be owner adjustable at this point. It may be another hundred or so lbs but these are the last of a breed, the hybrids and EVs are coming and the cylinders are disappearing :(
      Owned a Plaid and of course the launches were insane, but as a pure drivers car the lack of engine noise/smell/vibration/feel etc gave a wooden impression.

    @scottthomson9813 Před 4 měsíci

    Love the Jag and agree with most everything you said. That being the case I see the Camaro ZL1 didn't make an appearance. Also, (not a Mustang guy at all but) the Coyote engine you had the clip of is definitely not as good but any test for the best V8 sound ever has to include the Predator & Voodoo engines of the 500GT & 350GT. I don't overly care for the cars but the engine sound on those two is biblical.

      @@MrGB_UK , your just like me. Initial dream is to own an Aston, but can’t afford it. The only years I could afford is around 2007, but then being Aston, worried about high maintenance costs being an older car. Here in Canada near Toronto, very few pickings of actual dealers. So, I fell in love with that F Type, a sister car designed by the same man, dealers in almost every large city if I get stuck on something. For my V8S, I do all the maintenance myself anyway. Since F Types are stopping, down the road just might be an Aston.

    Great video. You mentioned the Aston V8 vantage and the Ferrari but neither of them are anywhere near the f types price. You can buy a used f type from 25-60k. The 2019 vantage (with the new shape back) is 82k used on autotrader at it's cheapest. I assume that's the one you're talking about

    • @MrGB_UK
      @MrGB_UK  Před rokem

      It’s a tricky one to quantify. A fully specced R could run you £110-120k. You can get used examples of both the Ferrari and Aston for less. They would be a lot more new, of course. Arguably you are not then comparing apples for apples, but if you were by chance walking down the street with £110k in your pocket (lol), you could arguably end up at home with any of the three

    • @LagunaLeonhart
      @LagunaLeonhart Před rokem

      @@MrGB_UK what I mean is you're comparing the exhaust sound only. You said "new Aston" which tells me the previous gen didn't have such a nice exhaust. I assume you mean 2019+?
      Given that fact you then look at the price of the one you're talking about for the purpose of your comparison and the price gap becomes huge. A V8 f type has the same exhaust at 35k as it does at 60k (used) but at what price point does the Aston vantage you mention come up used?

    I've had a flat plane crank V8 Ferrari, 3 Jaguars (2 with this same supercharged 5L) and driven the C8 Corvette and the latest generation (prior to this new one) Mustang GT.
    The Ferrari's flat plane crank V8 is the best sounding engine I've ever heard, hands down. And, the earlier Ferraris had better sounds than the 458 IMO - the F430, 360, and notably the F355 which has been called the best sounding car ever produced by more than one publication. But a flat plane is pretty uncommon. Among these more typical V8s, I have to agree that the Jaguar engine js the best one I've heard (which is a big reason why ive had several). I'd also give a nod to Lexus with their NA 5L V8, particularly in the RCF. I've driven several of them and have friends with them. In stock form it's a bit underwhelming because Lexus has to maintain that semblance of Japanese businessman refinement, but a titanium exhaust opens it up and it screams with the best of them, all throughout the rev range.
    I rented a Corvette C8 and drove it all throughout the Rockies last August and it had the most disappointing exhaust I can recall in a performance car. I tried all of the performance modes to open it up, to no avail. It only really became active at the higher RPMs, right before you have to switch gears, which made it disappointing off the line or crushing through town. None of my Jaguar's or my Ferrari had this issue, nor the RCF with the aftermarket exhaust. It was so underwhelming.

    • @solo03
      @solo03 Před rokem +1

      @@MrGB_UK Its not due to the firing order, its due to the Ferrari having a flat plane crank, and the others have a cross plane crank. A cross plan crank will create the traditional burble, as it causes pulses of exhaust gas that, well, burble. A flat plane crank like in the Ferrari creates a really even exhaust gas pulse, hence why it sounds like it does.

The Ferrari you've compared is not a 458 Speciale, but a 458 Italia. The Speciale has two separate side exausts, while the Italia has three in the middle.
