But a signal would have told that car that the truck intended to go right...

As a truck driver and trainer myself, I can confirm that this fail falls on the truck driver 100%. First, the truck driver did not signal. 2nd the truck driver did not make sure the coast was clear. Third, improper lane change. And finally we are supposed to be highly specialized and skilled drivers. We have more training then your average everyday driver. Where are the guardians of the road. We have a responsibility to make sure that we do everything in our power to make the roads the safest possible. That includes but is not limited to sending steering wheel holders like this one back for a refresher course. I can't tell you how many times I have run into old truck dogs like myself who do a bunch of sketchy s***. We become comfortable and complacent. We have the mindset of, " I know what I'm doing, I know what my truck can do, this is my road and I'm bigger than you. So get out of my way." Most of us who have been on the road as long as I have and are driving trucks like this one, which apparently is an owner operator, have forgotten more than most newer drivers have even learned. Which in some ways makes us more dangerous than a new driver. I have a challenge for every driver out there. Go retake the knowledge, skills, and pre-trip test again for the heck of it. See just how much you really have forgotten.
Very true. Got my class A last month and they have even dumbed down the pre-trip as well. You don't have to check belts or know by name engine parts or steering parts.

As a retired trucker, especially in heavy hauls. The trucker, regardless his intentions is still at fault. He exited the far left lane into a driveway without use of turn signals. I understand his plight, and I've been there many times, I use my turn signals regardless.

On a wide right turn, from the left lane, a truck driver must signal their intentions AND SEE IF THE COAST IS CLEAR. Those big West Coast mirrors are on a semi for a reason. Suck it up buttercup.
Before making a turn, especially a wide turn from a left lane, it is always the truck driver's responsibility to ensure that turn is safe. That's why you have rear view mirrors.
@@Monty-hy5hz I guess if the driver (like most) is sitting so low they can barely see over their steering wheel. I personally sit really high in my truck. I like seeing over you and everything else. Also those round fisheye mirrors pretty much eliminate blind spots. I use them to pull onto roads from an angle I can't otherwise see from my passenger side.

Professional driver here. I can confirm the truck was in the wrong. Occasionally we do need to occupy both lanes or turn from the outside lane for clearance, but he did not use his indicator and if he was watching his mirrors that wouldn’t have happened. I can easily see when a car is accelerating up on me and know whether or not I have ample time to safely make a turn. Be safe guys.

The truck already occupied both lanes. Blinker or not semis actually has a law the protects them in this situation. Impatience is how people end up at fault. Read your driver's manuals. Truck drivers can take up to 3 lanes in narrow streets.

The problem is drivers license bureaus don't educate Class C Drivers License holders enough about how a truck might be making a right turn in this case for example. Maybe the car shouldn't have run the stop sign in the first place. The truck driver didn't expect the car to be there yet because he thought he would still be at the stop sign or nearer to it still. Yes the truck should always use turn signal in such a situation too though and should check his mirrors too always. He probably did see him coming in his mirrors but the problem is that brakes on a truck respond a little slower than on a car.
Yes! My dad's a truck driver has been driving for 20+ years So I would know a little something. As a matter of fact you are correct however the truck driver was already pulling out He's all the way out in the road so he probably already checked before that car came, in the video you can see it slowly pulling up as the truck is already out in the middle of the clear road. and you can see that his load is quite heavy. So as this dude is turning the truck the car takes the opportunity to go in between him turning, accelerating almost causing collision and crashing into the truck driver. in the situation the truck is absolutely not in the wrong, but however in this situation it is indeed the car's fault For being impatient and being reckless if they would have been hit it would indeed be the cars fault. I agree its not worth testing and doing a 3000 vs 20,000 pound vehicle collision, but truck driver was in the wrong, he absolutely did not have right of way. Here's an actual answer from someone with a law enforcement background: There doesn't appear to be a stop sign, but almost every state requires a complete stop before entering a roadway from a parking lot or private property, even without a sign. However, even if there was a stop sign, it would be completely irrelevant because the near collision was not a direct result of them not stopping at a location you had already passed. In this case, even if the car hit the truck, it is 100% the truck's fault for one specific reason. Wide turns for semis are permitted in most locations depending on traffic and road conditions, but get this.... You still have to use a blinker. The entire purpose of a blinker is to warn other drivers of your intentions, which you did not do. They were driving lawfully in their lane and had the right of way for that lane. Your failure to signal caused them to leave their lane to avoid a collision, and could've gotten you at least one citation. Non LEO answer: You don't own the road and get to do whatever you want just because you're bigger. Use a fucking turn signal and stop blaming your fuckups on everyone else like most semi drivers do.
You forgot the part when even using a turn signal doesn't give anyone ROW, it's an indication of turning/changing lanes. If a truck is going to turn across a lane from the outside lane even with a turn signal he must check his mirror and make sure there's no vehicles in the lane or he's going to cut off.

The truck driver has his hazard warning lights on. This means that oncoming vehicles should slow down and exercise extra caution. Unfortunately, as usual, car drivers ignore others on the road and create the risk of an accident. Turning right from the left lane, you always make sure nobody is on your right. Just because he ran a stop sight a 1/4 mile down the road doesn’t mean anything.

His trailer is most likely still blocking his vision in the right lane as well as blocking the lane itself (notice car is passing on shoulder). I highly doubt the driver saw him until he stopped on that dime. Obviously, most of you have never hauled a trailer, let alone one over 30 feet long.

The car should have just waited because you see the person of the car should have seen the guy turned from the left lane cuz in the video when he went into the other lane the car didn't pass so the car should have seen him
in order to make the turn he has to go wide. So since he just came out of a turn going wide he had to go wide again on the far side of his next turn resulting in being across of the entrance he wanted to go into. That means he was naturally going to be in the ‘wrong’ lane to cross into the entrance. I see what your saying but that’s a little more info for why the truck driver did what he dud

What they are doing is legal for their truck and necessary… they can’t turn like normal cars and have stickers on the back that lets you know that.. you are also taught this in Drivers Ed about truck turns and where not to be.
@@Hexharlowhere in texas, the trucker MUST take both lanes before making a wide turn like that, that means put your blinker on, yield the right of way to the vehicles on the other lane, then spliting the lane and make your turn. This trucker did not yield the right of way to the car driving in the lane, that automatically would of put the blame on the trucker and he would of gotten cited for failure to yield right of way from lane change. The stop sign is irrelevant to the cituation. Now lets say the trucker successfully would of yielded the right of way and wait until it is safe to split the lane, and then proceeded to turn and then struck a car on the #2 lane, the car would be at fault because the trucker would of had the right of way ( but in the video the trucker didn't).

After looking at this video a second time. It was the car drivers fault. He did run the stop sign. What the truck driver did was a moot point. In every state in the union requires you to stop before pulling out into ⛔

As a truck driver and trainer myself, I can confirm that this fail falls on the truck driver 100%. First, the truck driver did not signal. 2nd the truck driver did not make sure the coast was clear. Third, improper lane change. And finally we are supposed to be highly specialized and skilled drivers. We have more training then your average everyday driver. Where are the guardians of the road. We have a responsibility to make sure that we do everything in our power to make the roads the safest possible. That includes but is not limited to sending steering wheel holders like this one back for a refresher course. I can't tell you how many times I have run into old truck dogs like myself who do a bunch of sketchy s***. We become comfortable and complacent. We have the mindset of, " I know what I'm doing, I know what my truck can do, this is my road and I'm bigger than you. So get out of my way." Most of us who have been on the road as long as I have and are driving trucks like this one, which apparently is an owner operator, have forgotten more than most newer drivers have even learned. Which in some ways makes us more dangerous than a new driver. I have a challenge for every driver out there. Go retake the knowledge, skills, and pre-trip test again for the heck of it. See just how much you really have forgotten.
Very true. Got my class A last month and they have even dumbed down the pre-trip as well. You don't have to check belts or know by name engine parts or steering parts.

As a retired trucker, especially in heavy hauls. The trucker, regardless his intentions is still at fault. He exited the far left lane into a driveway without use of turn signals. I understand his plight, and I've been there many times, I use my turn signals regardless.

Also those round fisheye mirrors pretty much eliminate blind spots. I use them to pull onto roads from an angle I can't otherwise see from my passenger side.

Professional driver here. I can confirm the truck was in the wrong. Occasionally we do need to occupy both lanes or turn from the outside lane for clearance, but he did not use his indicator and if he was watching his mirrors that wouldn’t have happened. I can easily see when a car is accelerating up on me and know whether or not I have ample time to safely make a turn. Be safe guys.

Sketchy as in making a right turn exit off the road from the left lane as opposed to from the right lane in this case? The problem is drivers license bureaus don't educate Class C Drivers License holders enough about how a truck might be making a right turn in this case for example. Maybe the car shouldn't have run the stop sign in the first place. The truck driver didn't expect the car to be there yet because he thought he would still be at the stop sign or nearer to it still. Yes the truck should always use turn signal in such a situation too though and should check his mirrors too always. He probably did see him coming in his mirrors but the problem is that brakes on a truck respond a little slower than on a car.

and you can see that his load is quite heavy. So as this dude is turning the truck the car takes the opportunity to go in between him turning, accelerating almost causing collision and crashing into the truck driver. in the situation the truck is absolutely not in the wrong, but however in this situation it is indeed the car's fault

I agree its not worth testing and doing a 3000 vs 20,000 pound vehicle collision, but truck driver was in the wrong, he absolutely did not have right of way. Here's an actual answer from someone with a law enforcement background:
There doesn't appear to be a stop sign, but almost every state requires a complete stop before entering a roadway from a parking lot or private property, even without a sign. However, even if there was a stop sign, it would be completely irrelevant because the near collision was not a direct result of them not stopping at a location you had already passed. In this case, even if the car hit the truck, it is 100% the truck's fault for one specific reason. Wide turns for semis are permitted in most locations depending on traffic and road conditions, but get this.... You still have to use a blinker. The entire purpose of a blinker is to warn other drivers of your intentions, which you did not do. They were driving lawfully in their lane and had the right of way for that lane. Your failure to signal caused them to leave their lane to avoid a collision, and could've gotten you at least one citation.
Non LEO answer: You don't own the road and get to do whatever you want just because you're bigger. Use a fucking turn signal and stop blaming your fuckups on everyone else like most semi drivers do.
You forgot the part when even using a turn signal doesn't give anyone ROW, it's an indication of turning/changing lanes. If a truck is going to turn across a lane from the outside lane even with a turn signal he must check his mirror and make sure there's no vehicles in the lane or he's going to cut off.

@@Dave-qw6om Never saw a right turn signal. Even though you have to occupy both lanes to do so, it’s not on other drivers to know what you’re going to do before you do it. Truck driver immediately goes into that right turn. Even then he doesn’t even cut the wheel the other way, just blows his horn.

Turning right from the left lane, you always make sure nobody is on your right. Just because he ran a stop sight a 1/4 mile down the road doesn’t mean anything.
And the funny thing about that is I didn't even see a stop sign when I looked back at the video so he's double liable if they were to have gotten into an accident
You obviously don't drive rigs that truck has a short turning ratios it needs both lanes to safely make a right turn. The driver of the car has no patience to wait to see if that truck is turning
@@roberthodgin3201 I actually do drive semis Robert. Have spent most of my career navigating roadways in commercial vehicles. Guess what? I always make sure nothing is coming up the side of me before I takeover a lane of traffic. That is why I’ve never had that happen.

Blowing the stop sign is their problem… you almost running into them is yours. It’s still on you to make sure the coast is clear if you’re turning from the opposite lane.

@nativeoutdoors1780 I think everyone is missing the fact that he swung wide into the right lane, then moves to left lane to start turn. His trailer is most likely still blocking his vision in the right lane as well as blocking the lane itself (notice car is passing on shoulder). I highly doubt the driver saw him until he stopped on that dime. Obviously, most of you have never hauled a trailer, let alone one over 30 feet long.

Like when two lanes open to three and you go to the new lane, I always check to make sure noone is taking the shoulder of the road, just good defensive driving.

He is faced too far away for the mirror to get the correct angle until the very last second. I'd say as fast as he stopped, he was trying his best to see anyone coming from his right side while he was "blind". Just my 25 cents!

in order to make the turn he has to go wide. So since he just came out of a turn going wide he had to go wide again on the far side of his next turn resulting in being across of the entrance he wanted to go into. That means he was naturally going to be in the ‘wrong’ lane to cross into the entrance. I see what your saying but that’s a little more info for why the truck driver did what he dud

What they are doing is legal for their truck and necessary… they can’t turn like normal cars and have stickers on the back that lets you know that.. you are also taught this in Drivers Ed about truck turns and where not to be.

@@Hexharlowhere in texas, the trucker MUST take both lanes before making a wide turn like that, that means put your blinker on, yield the right of way to the vehicles on the other lane, then spliting the lane and make your turn. This trucker did not yield the right of way to the car driving in the lane, that automatically would of put the blame on the trucker and he would of gotten cited for failure to yield right of way from lane change. The stop sign is irrelevant to the cituation. Now lets say the trucker successfully would of yielded the right of way and wait until it is safe to split the lane, and then proceeded to turn and then struck a car on the #2 lane, the car would be at fault because the trucker would of had the right of way ( but in the video the trucker didn't).

Now look at what the Chevy did. Did they roll through the stop? Yes. Did they maintain a safe speed limit and stay in their lane after they got into the right lane? Yes. So please tell me what makes you think the trucker is in the right?

Coming from a HARVARD graduate lawyer… this was on you… no turn signal, I saw. But lane changes are tricky, so I would probably say damages would be as split as a banana split.

@@Unitedstates9101. if the truck had his blinkers on they would be visible in the video because we see the front of the truck, and 2. mirrors exist on the right and fender mirrors like the one the truck has prevent any blindspots.
That's one of those really dangerous entrances for trucks that have to make that U-turn, really you need to just wait till it's completely clear and make sure you put that signal on!!

2. The semi truck did not use his blinker, so the car had no clue he was turning.
