Certainly is different in the states. In Australia we don’t use tension rods. We tie the chainwire directly to the post. Our fittings are a hell of a lot stronger than these fittings. I normally fill the hole with concrete and then slide post in and set to height. As a 25 year professional there is no way I could charge for this. Just finished a security chainwire fence with a custom set of 42.5 feet sliding chainwire gates I had to actually make on site as too difficult to move. Can send photos if you like. Cheers from outback Australia 🇦🇺👍
I worked at Lowe's on Primrose when I moved here 20 years ago. They made us watch a video a lot like this then take a "test." Some of the terminology stuck but I didn't learn jack back then, and we were supposed to be the experts you asked when needed help at the store. That's how all their training is done, watch a video, take a test, wear certified sales associate badge.
I worked on the old governor's mansion on Hazeltine years ago putting in all their trees and flowers. We got a bobcat and attached an auger to it thinking THAT would be enough for this rocky MO soil, it wasn't. Almost flipped the bobcat once, snapped 3 full rods worth of rebar connections. What a hassle. I've never seen such rocky soil in my LIFE.
Woah! Appreciate you sharing your experiences!
I would guess that the nut positioning was to avoid moving the camera. Thinking as a property owner, I would assume that the nut would be inside the fence to avoid a liablity suit from someone walking past the fence on the outside and claming to have been injured by the protruding bolt.
That’s interesting how they have nuts and bolts going both ways and not consistent, nuts should always face the same and towards the secure side (inside yard) love all the reaction videos Joe 💪
Thanks Noah, appreciate you watching and weighing in!
Here, in BC, Canada, calling 811 gets you a nurse so you can ask medical questions.
Great clarification! Here’s a list of numbers to call for our neighbors to the North: call811.com/811-In-Your-State/Canada
This has to be one of my favorite videos. 😅
Sometimes at daycares,,or prisons we put nuts to the outside.
Fair point, in special scenarios it makes sense. In a back yard it doesn’t really.
Minus a few mistakes, its not a "bad" instructional video on how to put up chain link from start to finish. Definitely could have been better, but you try to search videos from like "big guys" and they dont show near as much either, nor a start to finish instructional. Perhaps you could make one to help folks out?
Need your help. I've been watching your videos and am preparing to replace a fence. I am hung up on the nails used for pickets. I can't seem to find the right nail gun. I figure I need 1 1/2 inch nails, but the guns I see have a minimum of 2". What do you suggest?
Thats odd that lowes would even sell a heavy bottom wire like that..sure looks like 6 gauge..so odd how different we do things here in Canada.. usually just wrap bttm wire around posts..only use a center band when we are doing 6gauge..this is so we can attach a turnbuckle to tighten that rigid wire..works well..also for rez bttm wire(usually 11 gauge) and typical commercial jobs(9gauge bttm wire) we do not attach to fence with hog rings,, we opun the bottom knuckle on the fence, loop bottom wire in and close the knuckle..we do this on same spacing as ties..we call this knuckling..usually a job we dedicate to new guys..but ya...works well, and have never had to go tlback to a job cause the bttm wire popped out...
Just saying...maybe try one day when u forget the hog rings ..
Enjoy watching your videos
Love it! I appreciate you watching and sharing your process!
Im new to fencing and my company digs a shallow hole around 12 to 14 inches deep and drives the post in. Is that incorrect?
Do u guys not use pulljacks for short stretches like that?
I think Megan needs some training at a local AFA school 😉
Agreed!
Nuts always inside
Agreed! Thanks for watching and weighing in!
