My only regret is that I never got an opportunity to see him perform live as he rarely visted my country and when he did the timing was always conflicting with things I had going on at the time. To add insult to injury he was scheduled to play with Iron Maiden about 10 years ago in June which I had tickets to that gig and he passed away 2 months before hand so I was especially devastated as he was one of the artists I wanted to see most. Still despite never getting the chance to see him live or meet the legend himself, he at least left a legacy of legendary music and was always spoken very highly of as a person to his fans. Good friend I used to work with was the original drummer for Bang Tango. When they broke up he ended up being Vinnie Appice's drum tech for about 2 years when Dio and Motorhead toured US, Japan and Europe. (When they came to san diego I got to hang with ronnie on his bus and sit in on sound check)
Anyway my friend was in germany and hadnt seen the light of day in weeks with the work hours. He did go out drinking with lemmy and ronnie a few times a week. One night hes all depressed literally crying in his beer cuz his GF had given birth to his daughter that day and he couldnt be there.
Ronnie said "Hey look, some day, when she turns 18, youre gonna buy her a pretty dress, and shes gonna go out with some guy, whos gonna bend her over, rip that dress, and fuck her right up the ass. And you know what? Theres not a damn thing youre going to be able to do about it."

I had an opportunity so I took it....I asked him if he really enjoyed his stint with Sabbath and he said, "The music was great but the uncertainty was greater." Fucking mind blown, forever. He told me to be careful and have a good week.

If I had to form a rock band with the best of the best at every position, I gotta say, RJD was possibly one of my all-time favorite vocalists in Rock'n'Roll.
Paul Rodgers of Bad Company also has to be in my top 5 rock voices. He may in fact be my #1 all-time pick, and Ronnie second.
Others include Jim Morrison, Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, and John Kay of Steppenwolf (Born to Be Wild).
I also love the soulful bluesy rock voice of James Dewar of The Robin Trower Band, but he's sort of in a category all his own. Incomparable, really. And of course, your mileage may vary. I'm sure I have left off guys I shouldn't have so feel free to nominate them.
I just can't handle any high voiced guys like Geddy Lee, Steve Perry, Robert Plant, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Brad Delp of Boston, or Freddie Mercury. They're not on my all-time top rock voice list, and never will be....OUTSTANDING front men though every one of them truly were. If we're going for 'best front men' then I gotta talk about Noddy Holder, Ray Davies, Freddie Mercury, and Mick Jagger, who go out there and completely OWN the crowd.
They're just not my idea of a deep, bad ass rock voice.
    Ronnie James Dio was....for sure.

I fell in love with the music though and to this day when I hear it it takes me back there when I was young and so full of hopes and dreams myself. that was back in 1983

One of the greatest ever. At 19 I thought it would be great to drop acid and see the Dio show for the Last In Line tour in '85. Got to stand front-ish row. The crew guy handling the pulleys for the dragon's head got tripped up and the head came down within inches of us there in the front rows.
