Very grey from a thematic standpoint, but extremely nuanced from a pure musical, sonic, standpoint. Gestating tones both relaxing and eerie.

The album's patience and subtlety matched with the warm and confident reverberated vocals makes this album feel like a warm, fuzzy memory. At first I was disappointed at how short it was, but now I get it. It's an album of short and sweet perfection and I can't get enough. Give this album a chance and keep listening. It grew on me fast and it's exactly the breath of fresh air I needed in my life. It requires no additional instrumental layering and its tenderness is what makes it such an exceptional album, this one really puts me in a good place 9/10, and potentially a 10/10 in the years to come. Get your head out melonhead

I've listened to half the album so far - and am absolutely loving it. It has that certain something I love from select songs from days I thought long gone by (and before my time). Just fantastic. I hope the remainder of the album pans out. If so, I'm definitely going to begin going through Jessica's discography. This is a special sound.
I would say that her voice is exceptionally delicate and precious. With a fine melody to accompany her delivery, her music can really go places where no other artiste can. Listen to 'Polyblue' from her last LP as well as 'Better Hate' from her latest LP! I do agree that a few more instrumental layers would probably make her non-singles sound a little less sparse.
Solid review for sure though I wish you'd taken a bit more time to discuss "Better Hate" as that has been the standout track for me so far

surprised you said you didn’t like by hook or by crook, i’ve been playing that one nonstop! i love the little bossa nova flavor and want to just sink into her moody, dreamy sound. somehow jessica pratt just never gets old
i loved the album and find the deep cuts great, i‘m just glad anthony met this one more where it was than he did with quiet signs

I don't think a jessica pratt album has ever been a 7 and this is no exception. This is a solid 8.7

I've really loved this album. Kinda glad that we have the same sentiments for this. It's very atmospheric and haunting at times.
I agree some of the deep cuts on this record were lacking in comparison to the standouts mentioned, but still, I’ve been enjoying it a lot, and I think its brevity works in its favour: a humble pocket of serenity and silence in an elaborate, noisy world. Thanks for reviewing!
I was feeling the same way too! I love all of the singles, but the deep cuts are somewhat unmemorable. Yet, it's still pleasing to my ear.

Hey, i wonder if you'd be willing to speak your thoughts on breakcore or even make a review about a breakcore album. Specifically on Sewerslvt's "We had good times together, don't forget that."
While a bit unconventional (its a purely instrumental record, it barely features any lyrics) i think the artist is somehow extremely good at expressing a ton of emotions and chaotic feelings even with the lack of lyrics. I see it as kinda unique, so it'd be great if you review it... Or even just give it a shot by yourself, since i don't see pretty much anyone talking about this kind of music.
If you listen to it, i would also recommend doing a bit of research on the context of how and why was the record made. Thanks if you read this!

I'm curious if you know of Little Sims. Her last 2 albums are, in my opinion (as the younger older generations used to say) DOPE.
Maybe my favorite record from her. Seeing you stream “Better Hate” first listen live and seeing it interrupted by Kendrick dropping “Meet The Grahams” was hilarious.
I love this album. It's an evolution for her and creates a very unique sound with plenty of detail for me. I give it a 10..
Honestly this entire album felt consistently quality and very unique from most other songwriter albums that have come out since 2020. Might be the first time in a while that i actually think p4k underrated a record they gave BNM to. Easily an early frontrunner for AOTY 2024 for me.
I think her debut was one of the albums when I've noticed your reviews. I liked how you gave attention to that kinda obscure album but didn't liked the review for Deftones which were in the next video. How the time flies.

As a fan I would be content to get an album this short once a year, or even once every other year. After a 5 year wait though I was a bit disappointed, even though I liked the project. Hopefully she doesn't disappear for another 5 years.

I grew up listening to Scarface UGK DJ Screw Three 6 Mafia Tupac and Biggie and I've been listening to Jessica's album for 3 days straight you won't really appreciate her until you try to listen to another female artist right after Jessica and Maple glider are my favorites right now
I Like Music
I remember listening to Life Is around when it first came out and I did not like it. I just couldn’t wrap my head around her vocals. I kept this album on my radar. Each new single warming me up bit by bit. Now the album is out and I love it and it only gets better each time I listen to it.
Life is, is my favorite song of the year so far. Absolutely beautiful and haunting and addictive. Album is a easy 9/10 for me
