An even better way to get rid of slimes is teleporting them all in the void, so they disappear immediately. You can use a repeating always active command block in the spawn chunks with the command /tp @e[type=slime] ~ -100 ~

One of the methods I use pre-cave update is _kinda_ cheaty, but Essentially in the superflat options I just added an extra 6 to the dirt levels, that way there was now 62 layers of dirt instead of just two, giving you nearly 20 blocks of space between y-level 40 and the surface. I use this method for pretty much all of the superflat worlds I've made and It works extremely well. The only real downside that I can think of is that you don't have as much space between the surface and the height limit, But I don't build super large structures so its never been a problem for me.

The Trench Method can still work with a few changes. If you name tag a slime it won’t despawn but every slime that splits from a big one when you kill it keep the name. So all you’d need to do is name tag 5 big slimes and fully reduce them into small slimes and you’d be past the mob cap and not have to worry about despawning. The only hard part would be getting the master librarian for the name tags, but I’m sure there’s some stupid hack or method that lets you do it in 10 minutes.

Slimes need a 3x3 area to spawn, which means it's actually fairly easy to prevent them from spawning, by putting down a non-full block every 3 blocks in a grid.

I know you probably get this question a lot, but what version should I make a superflat world in to get access to the most blocks? With your decade of experience you're probably the best person to ask haha

If you start back in like 1.2 you can get petrified oak slabs. Along the upgrade path you can get broken villagers, God Armor, Rabbits, Squid, Axolotls. I'm probably missing a few things. I would check out this website for more info:

Cool new thing you can do with 1.19 is use moss carpet, it still looks like grass and with a texture pack that i got, i dont notice the difference, plenty of moss farms on youtube that are super easy

Honestly I'd rather having to remove water later, than have to use shovels to make path blocks, plus water also stops other mobs so making things is easier during the night.

Another way to do it is just make a custom super flat world that is above Y level 40 to begin with. Though it may not be “natural” super flat. I feel like it’ll be close enough to normal super flat worlds to work anyways.

For me I made a similar trench idea
I make a 5x5 2 block deep trench with a 3x3 block 4 blocks on top of it
I lure the slimes there and kill it to make it smaller, the stand at then when they are very close I kill them to turn them to small slimes and just stand on the 3x3 platform to let them walk towards the pit

even small slimes can't spawn on 1x1's, the spawning for slimes first checks for space for a full sized slime and then decides the size randomly, so a single spawnable block here and there actually has zero chance to spawn any sized slime, not just a low chance.

Hear me out, Wandering Traders should sell Tadpole Buckets so one can get Frogs in a superflat world. The appetite of the Frogs will devour any small slime they come across, and a way to forcefully split slimes into their smallest forms will help greatly in eradicating Slimes in your superflat world.

in creative i've always just used "/gamerule doMobSpawning false" then "/kill @e[type=!player]" 3 times after making the world which then doesn't require any command blocks but that obviously gets rid of every natural spawning mobs. however in a creative world usually you don't need any mobs to spawn naturally anyway.
