Having a video about "redstone" where you never mention a command block and essentially just play it off like it's redstone or just conveniently not mention how it works ever when it is command blocks, that IS misleading and should not happen.

    I make data packs (which are essentially command blocks accessed in a different way), and I feel that redstone and commands are not really comparable. Neither is better than the other, it's just that redstone is good for some things and commands are good for other things. Some people have the idea that commands are "better" than redstone because they're more capable, and in some ways that's true, but the constraints of redstone are what make it so special.

    My personal opinion is basically that redstone stuff and command block stuff are two different kinds of content, and as long as it's clear which kind it is, I'm fine with plenty of silly command block content. To try and put it more solidly, as long as "redstone" isn't in the title, (Ex: I make your silly ideas in Minecraft come to life), and a reasonable person wouldn't believe it's possible in survival early on, I feel you are completely in the green. In my opinion, the easiest way to fulfill the reasonable person part is just having something that resizes blocks in the first idea, but there are probably many more ways to do so I won't even attempt to list.
    Note: I imagine full videos with just stuff that needs command blocks, or a clearly stated second half of a video that includes command blocks. One off uses in a video of ten ideas will create too much to think about, and I definitely want to see more cool stuff with command blocks than that.
    Personally, the french person thing does not fulfill these requirements for me, as a reasonable person without exhaustive knowledge of redstone components wouldn't think of whether it's possible and default to assuming it is. But what's more important than the technicalities of how gray an incident is, is the fact that People Get To Make Mistakes! As long as you show that you are trying to improve (as this very video shows), people are allowed to make mistakes along the way. What I am saying is in the context of sustainable future content, not how bad it needs to be to start cancelling. (Honestly, for this level of stuff you need repeated offences at a minimum.)
    Final disclaimer: This is my opinion and not anyone else's. People can have opinions besides my own.

      Why is this whole command block vs redstone such a big issue to everyone? Like, i get it if people use it to fake vids. But, just using it to make epic things shouldnt be a huge issue

    • @epicman9181
      @epicman9181 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@skeleton819 Good question, and I can think of several reasons about that.
      1) Confirmation bias. The people who care about this will comment, and the people who don't care won't comment. This means that even if 2% of people really care, they might be 75% of the opinions you see.
      2) This is a video about this topic. Even if nobody thought about this when it happened, they are thinking about it now.
      3) I don't care so much that I worry every day or something like that. I spent like half an hour thinking "How do I feel about this situation?" and left my opinion here. I don't think that is considered caring deeply as much as being interested. I was frankly more worried when I found that CZcams defaulted to cluttering my email whenever someone responded to my comments. (I managed to set it to just notifications much more easily swiped away.)
      There is also the fact that the process of looking deep into the specifics of my opinion probably magnified the issue as a whole.
      *This whole reason really only applies to me.
      4) Using a command block to easily get past something people have put in years learning is massively disrespectful whenever you try to pass it off as something you actually have the ability to do without command blocks. (Which the typical viewer will default to without evidence to the contrary)
      Edit: Honestly, the more I think about this, the more it feels like I used it as an excuse to cover up #5.
      5) People don't like being lied to.
      Short and simple, but probably the main reason this is relevant. This is why the majority of my opinion is about being clear about what you are doing. I once watched a video that included a 'new way you can craft bedrock' before I knew that mods and command blocks existed, and I felt like an idiot when I found out it was fake because I believed it was in the base game at the time.
      6) Spillover from other fake things like mobile game ads and lazy reaction content that rightfully deserve plenty of anger, and that anger can come over to smaller issues like this.
      I 1000% support making epic things with command blocks, and the issue only comes from people not knowing they were involved.

    the anti-French door might actually be possible without command blocks. a while ago i had an idea for a door that only opens if an entity with the correct UUID is standing in the right spot. This could work by having an arrow with that entity's UUID as the owner light a tnt which pushes back armor stands on either side of it. because tnt knockback is calculated from the direction of the owner, you could make it so the have to stand in a specific position to knock all the armor stands onto the correct blocks for them to be detected, and if they are on those blocks, the door opens and the machine resets. Just don't let any french people put their arrows in the UUID checker

    I'm a command blocker, I have been doing it for around the past 4 years or so. My bias is that command blocks are not cheating. The point of command blocks is to create maps, not to be used in an smp so to speak. Your videos could be classified as being on a map. I even have talked to someone who managed to make command blocks intigrated with redstone. The problem is not that command blocks are cheating, the problem is all people think you do with them is /gamemode and /tp, while the more technical community sees them as a way to express your freedom in creative.
    Tl;Dr: Command blocks aren't cheating when used properly.

    Command blocks being used as a means to reload mobs into a contraption definitely makes more sense to do vs having to use a bunch of spawn eggs. Plus they can used in ways to enhance a build such as sending messages in chat or sounds outside of noteblock range. With the messages, yeah droppers and items could be used but could have a case of needing a bunch of droppers to get around the rng nature of them.

    you can imagine redstone as machinery and command block as technology. they migh seem same but are very different machinery is a machine with moving parts and technology is tech that uses electricity to "think" and perfome actions. and they can sometimes cross paths like clock for exaple it uses elecrticity to get that one second tick and then that one second gets delayed to minutes and hours by gears (not all clocks work this way but most wall clocks do so idc). i am not gonna go into details of how it works but thats the basics so i think its fine to use command blocks here and there.

    One example: showing off several contraptions next in line, but coincidentally theres an extra button or contraption you "never built" at the end of the showcase thats does the same stuff, but in a wierd way

    If you want an IRL example, redstone is electrical circuits, and command blocks are code. Electrical circuits can be used to make something happen every time based on when it is powered, but code can make many things happen on a device that allowed it.
    Imagine if your phone when powered on only did calls, nothing more. That’s an electrical circuit, now a smart phone which is able to call, but it can also text, access the internet, store photos, play games, and much more. That’s because of code.

    If it were me, I’d put a command block icon in the corner during a command block contraption to preserve the sense of honesty while also allowing ridiculous jokes to happen. You could even have it only pop in when the punchline drops to retain the surprise factor.

  • @Mr_Illuminati
    @Mr_Illuminati Před 2 měsíci +2

    I feel like command blocks in redstone are similar to how world edit and tools like axiom are perceived in the building community. I mean sure, you aren't placing all the blocks yourself and some of the things you can do with axiom would take forever to do manually like texturing and adding gradients but that doesn't take away from the build itself, it just requires a different set of skills and stuff is at a different scale to be impressive. I would say command blocks do the same thing in the redstone community, it may seem ingenuine to use them, but there are plenty of command block CZcamsrs, like Mysticat for example, who make some really impressive things. So just do what you feel is right for your videos and your content without wondering what your audience will think as much.

    Command blocks ARE redstone, but it’s only in activation, so anything that happens because of that command block are not directly activated with redstone, and therefor have an illegal connection, breaking the redstone, so command blocks cannot be used for machine operations itself, but stuff like restocking supplies for a showcase or restoring flying machines that are disposable, or other things like that

    Honestly, id love to see command block users in the spotlight on social media. The shit you can do with them is insane! Im not talking about the one and done command blocks, i mean using pulsing and chain command blocks activated with redstone logic. Seriously, i think you should consider making a video showing off what advanced command block usage can actually do (and not just a tutorial on how it works, those already exist and are well done).

    using the new crafter, make an overcomplicated machine, that requires you to complete minigames or captchas for every individual inserted item c:
    One of those minigames could be Simon Says; while the captcha one could be a block-swapper interface where you have to select the green concrete blocks, and none of the other.
    If you fail any of the minigames or captchas, the process fails, the crafting is canceled and you only get your items back if you succeed at another captcha.
    Oh and for actually crafting upon sending all required items you need to play another minigame or captcha as well.

    I was actually hoping to see a redstone video using command blocks as they go together very well. For example, many people may not know this but you can use a comparator on a command block, and it will output a redstone signal based on its last success count (how many times the command was successfully executed, usually 1 but can be higher for certain commands)
