It's sad to know how our Hawaiian ancestors brutally murdered each other in order to gain solidarity!
One thing our people do not talk about is how brutal King Kamehameha was and by today's standards would be considered a tyrant. But for sake of the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture, we won't talk about that...

In another video, I saw that King Kamehameha's ambition for power was manipulated by outsiders and eventually his lineage served as a puppet monarchy forming a puppet kindgom in order to acquire massive amounts of land for their sugar cane enterprises. Then, a few descendants later, when Queen Liliuokalani evetually and took power, she tried to give those lands back to the Hawaiians and was removed by those same rich families by use of the US military to do their dirty bidding without the US president even knowing what happened. But the Queen was a personal friend to the then president, unfortunately, his futile attempt to prevent the annexation of Hawaii only amounted to Hawaii not being turned into statehood until the late 1940s.

Yet to the ancient inhabitants of Oahu, the most politically important island of the Hawaiian island chain at that time, Kamehameha was an invader, high chief and leader of the Hawaiians invasion force. He was one of several ambitious high chiefs over the past three hundred years to attempt the grand conquest of the entire Hawaiian island chain. One had conquered half the island chain. A later high chief succeeded in conquering two-thirds of the islands. Kamehameha would accomplish the feat of uniting all the islands chain by force under his one rule.
By the time the shattered remnants of the Oahuan allied defenders crowded at the Nuuanu Pali cliff, they were a beaten, demoralized force. The Oahu Allies lost their final battle further down the mountain near a place that today is a tourist visitor spot nicknamed, "Jackass Ginger", a picturesque waterfall and large pond partially surrounded by island jungle. Surrender was not an option. Captives risked sacrifice to the Polynesian high gods and to the gods favoring Kamehameha. Any and all surviving Oahuan ali'i chiefs, high and low, would be sacrificed. Against the advancing onslaught of the invading Hawaiians, the Oahuans backed up slowly against the Pali sheer cliff. The end of the battle remains somewhat hazy. Some Oahu warriors committed suicide by jumping off the Pali cliff. Some were pushed off. It's not likely that the entire remaining Oahuans were liquidated this way. Possibly many surrendered and were spared, swearing allegiance to their new master, high chief and now King Kamehameha.
The aftermath of the great Battle For Oahu was tragedy for the noble families of Oahu. Victorious Kamehameha dispossessed them of their lands and distributed to his ali'i relatives and loyal chiefs. The Oahuan nobility were reduced to commoners struggling for a living. But all that became lost in history.
King Kamehameha had but one adversary left, the powerful king of the northernmost island of Kauai who had every intention of resisting to the death. There was also the tiny, insignificant island of Niihau, which would in due time surrender.
Expecting another bloody battle as on Oahu, King Kamehameha regrouped his army for the impending massive amphibious, sea-borne invasion of Kauai. But on the eve of departure, a smallpox epidemic broke out among the invasion Army of Hawaii. The ranks of this invasion army of Kauai were decimated.
It took years for King Kamehameha to recover his strength and forces to prepare for the Kauai invasion. Yet by this time the king of Kauai recognized the inevitability of the situation. He offered to submit to Kamehameha as his vassal. The upside would be that the Kauai king would keep his lands and continue to rule over Kauai. The downside for Kamehameha was no new acquisitions of conquered lands and spoils to distribute among his family relatives and high chiefs. Still it was the easy and cheap solution and Kamehameha accepted. It was better this way. The wars and epidemics had decimated the Hawaiian Peoples of the islands. Peace and stability were needed right now to grow needed crops and harvest foods from the ocean.
Given the submission of Kauai to vassal status, King Kamehameha was now master of the entire Hawaiian island chain. A new chapter in the history and future of Hawaii began. In a short time King Kamehameha was no longer seen as the ambitious, violent invading conqueror but a grand Hawaiian hero who brought all the islands and their peoples together under one rule, for better or worse that might come about in the dawning 19th century.
