Cynthia will always be awesome, but I much prefer Blue, just for the story. You beat him time after time and yet he still one step ahead of you, all the way to the Pokémon League!

1. Cynthia (But only just because of Platinum. She was tough, smart and just an awesome champion)
2. Iris (She's just awesome, OK. I love her design, her battle was challenging.. and best battle music ever)
3. Steven (He's a good champion, but his battle wasn't that memorable)
4. Alder (He's kinda bluh)
5. Diantha (Please.. She looks cool, but needs a load more)
DNF: Blue & Lance (Still need to complete both a Kanto & Johto Game)

***** The difference between Wallace & Lance/Blue, is I am currently playing though Leaf Green & Soul Silver, so I'll get around to them soon, while with Wallace, I haven't gotten Emerald Yet, So I can't make a single judgment because I haven't seen him in action throughout emerald's story
The Waterninja Matthew If you haven't completed a Johto or Kanto game, I highly suggest playing Heartgold or Soulsilver. You get both regions and fight Lance, Blue, and Red all in one game! Staggering amount of combat, and the peak of Gen 4's updated battling system that was a real turning point in making Pokemon competitive.
I feel like Wallace and Steven, along with Iris and Alder, should have had their own spots on the list instead of sharing a place with each other.
Alder fits so well in unova I can't explain it.

I actually like Steven and lance for one reason: there the champion, a trainer with super powerful Pokemon, and they actually use them against the evil team. Every time I saw Cynthia I was just like "YOU HAVE A FREAKING GARCHOMP HELP ME!" But she never did. She just sat on the sidelines while I did all the work. With lance and Stephen, not only did the fight against the evil teams, you had a battle WITH them against the evil teams. IMO it would've been so much better if they had Cynthia fight with you at spear pillar instead of your rival (even though it was cool how Barry just showed up and helped you kick ass).

@@KitsuneYojimbo I'd have to say Diantha is the easiest. Steven is still pretty annoying with sturdy and all of his resistances (or me being a dumbass and not having anything super effective against his cradily). I also just enjoy his character.
I saw Cynthia coming a miles away. Truly, the most interesting character and HARDEST champion ever to beat.

So far as the formulaic patterns go, he passes every criteria except for title.
Title really can take someone down, though. N acted very similar to a rival, but was never classified as one in game, and as such, he isn't grouped in with all the other rivals.

I adore Gen VI as well, but I'm sure most people agree with this: Pokémon X & Y had a lot of untapped potential. It's obvious the developers were slacking.
I wouldn't call it slacking, the battle mechanics were at the peak and pretty much the most balanced since Gen 2, and frankly that's the most important feature to me in Pokemon. The story wasn't good, but then again listening to Hugh whining about Purloin the entirety of Black 2 was grading after a while
***** Gen 6 was alright, but my favorite gen will always be Gen 5. Well...maybe not the sequel games, but the original black/white were good. I despise Gen 4 though, mainly because it was so tough.
***** Gen 6 is definitely the best Gen. It shows quality over quantity after the previous Gen having more species and (YMMV) less creativity. Kalos and everything in it are examples of Pokémon being an artistic masterpiece, providing elegance and its underlying strength. The battle system now has much more depth and redeemed many previously forgettable and mediocre Pokémon, especially for those blessed with the Fairy Type. The return of familiar faces (species from Kanto onwards) in Kalos blended the old with the new so well, giving the player so many options for his or her team even before clearing the game!
InkBlackShadow The only thing I dislike about Gen 5 is Hugh. I just dislike his character and how whiny he comes off. He is the Ryoma Echizen of the Pokemon universe. And what do you know? VOICED BY THE SAME SEIYUU

J-Plus Actually for Kyogre/Groudon, you can just KO them there and try again in the post-game. I know, because I did just that.
J-Plus yes EXACTLY. a few years ago hoenn was considered theseries' weak link. I still say johto was best region. I am very old. I was around for gen 1. but I will say this. ORAS are spectacular games. I'd even rate it higher than black and white. the environments are beautiful, the revamps made the game more exciting and complete. there's so much to do and so much to see. it's a real all star.

Rival Silver But I believe he never defeated the Gym Leaders and obtained Gym Badges. He kind of "infiltrated" the PKMN League. But I could be wrong.

Pokemon finally realized making the big bad be the climax of the game was what they SHOULD have been doing. Instead of " You know I just beat the world destroying evil team, but ehhhh lets go do that Elite 4 now. "

Even though I see Alder as one of the weaker champions (by no means the weakest, he's miles above Diantha), I do like his character a lot. Respectable wanderer who lost his partner Pokemon ages ago yet still tries to bring others happiness and deal with Team Plasma as best as he can? What's not to respect? In my opinion, Alder, along with Lance, Cynthia, and Blue, is one of the better champions just for his character. Even if I don't find him very challenging, I respect the man, dang it!

I loved Gen 6, it might be my favourite Pokemon game along with Black. It has my favourite ever Pokemon Delphox. But I do agree Diantha was a terrible champion. I loved Cynthia because she helps you and she feels like a friend. Diantha just came in a few time with Professor Sycamore and didn't really do anything. I didn't find Gen 6's story that bad, it wasn't good but at least it had the Pokemon war knowledge. Story wise Gen 5 will always be the best in my eyes. My least favourite Gen is 1. I don't have any nostalgia with it nor do I find it that fun. Gen 1 is the only Gen i dislike, I love all the other Gens.

Should've split Iris and Alder/Wallace and Steven. They're totally different characters who battle with totally different teams and roles. Also you should've included ultimate trainers like Red in G/S/C and the game freak guy in B/W. That's ten entries and it would've been very interesting to see how you would have put that together. Overall it was a good list but it could've been better. Without the grouping of champions that had nothing in common and the omission of characters that were more challenging than the actual champions.
You do such well articulated videos, I have to say I learnt a lot more about Pokemon from watching your presentations. If only Pokemon was actually good anymore.
Oh my gosh I never is see a video this soon after you had released it!! Your videos are incredible and you are by far the most intelligent Pokemon CZcams, stay strong with these videos! The one thing you could do to make me love you more is a playthrough or two. Yeah, you´re right with Cynthia, she is awesome. I remember my fight against her, it was the most intense Pokemon battle I ever have and I almost lose, have every pokemon defeated, using a lot of revives, she only has Roselia, last pokemon was Empoleon, Cut cut cut cut please... "The foe´s Roselia has fainted" Aleluya! That was the moment that I owe my life to Empoleon... just too bad I was a bad trainer on that moment. But yeah, the other champions are ok, but she was the best.

Why did you count Iris & Alder and Steven & Wallace together. I know they're from the same region in all, but it still feels cheap to me.
Honestly, i never found Cynthia that hard as a kid. I liked her as a character just fine but for me at least the battle with Steven was actually MORE difficult. It was probably my obsession with using every Pokemon I got in a trade and vs seeker spamming though.

Having Cynthia as the #1 champion is LITERALLY a cliche now. Not to mention, and I know you've said it in other videos, but you didn't say that this was your opinion ONCE. You just went straight through listing this and that blah blah blah, and I never felt like this video had any heart in it! It was cold hard facts, and no stories about memories.
Won't lie, the most stressful Pokemon battle I've ever had was Iris in Black 2. My team was so underleveled.

Coolest by far, best team, hardest challenge, had presence in the story, killer battle music (ESPECIALLY SMASH 4 REMIX AAAAAAAHHHHH).
*2) Blue*
Awesome to take down, story buildup was awesome, also great team, awesome battle music, nice challenge.
*3) Steven/Wallace*
Held back by single-type (or at least very little type diversity) teams, but outstanding battle music, great presence in story from both, and overall great designs for both, but they're a bit easy for final bosses, no?
*4) Diantha*
Somewhat cool design, pretty cool team, but was a complete joke to beat. Her presence in the story was kind of lackluster, too. At least the music was still pretty good...
*5) Lance*
OVERRATED. Bad, single-typed team (of hacked mons I might add), boring in the story, generic design and character, but his battle music was great.
*6) Iris*
Only good thing about her was her battle music, which is GODLY. Other than that, horrible character, horrible champion. Bad design, bad team (Focus sash should be on no boss ever) and no presence in story.
*7) Alder*
Literally nothing to like about. Boring battle music, boring team, no story buildup whatsoever, and terribly designed. N should be considered the Champion of Black and White IMO, the credits roll first after beating him. N's such a cooler character too. Don't really like his team though, and his battle music is meh, but I think his role in the story and as a thought-provoking character would easily cement him the spot above Lance if he were the Champion instead of this absolute WASTE of a character.
Let me just toss this out here...
5. I hate his guts, but I don't have anyone to put in this spot, so Blue, I guess.
4. I just really like Steven. Probably because he's so snarky, yet so experienced and likable. He's also quite the stunning young male...

Your Friendly Neighborhood Lenny ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Lance, because what? He was the least challenging Champion and you could take out his whole team with just 3 Pokemon. All you would need is a Pokemon with Thunderbolt/Thunder, a Pokemon with Surf/Hydro Pump and a Pokemon with Ice Beam Blizzard. Plus 3 Dragonites? Really? They couldn't throw a Kingdra in there?
***** Yes you are correct, before Fairy Types Kingdra could only get hit Super Effectively with Dragon Type moves. Which basically only dragons learn, unless you teach Gyuarados Dragon Pulse, which still won't be strong on it, because it has better psychical stats.

Every one favors Cynthia but I still prefer Lance (not siding Blue of course) Mostly because I just love how intimidating his team was. At the time, yeah he only had Dragonite but now his team is far more fleshed out and balance and he's pretty strong. But that's probably do to nostagia. Still my favorites are Lance, Cynthia and Steven in no particular order. Its just funny how these trainers who've been at this for years are all somehow dethroned by 10 year olds training for a few months. Gamefreak needs to raise the age cap on these protagonist a little.
No they're always 10/11 years old and lately, the games have been going out of their way to have characters outright state the protagonist's age, something many of the pokemon gamers dislike

You... Think Diantha is designed after Audrey Hepburn?
Besides the name, Diana's eye color, Diana died in Paris and you first meet Diantha in Lumiose - the Paris of Kalos - and she has what appears to be angel wings. Some people also think she died her hair and that it was naturally brown (I don't think this is true, but whether it is or not, it could've easily been the reason behind the color choice).
Everything about her screams Princess Diana except for the acting. However, given the introduction of the Trainer Videos and that Diana was in several shows and movies (as herself since they were documentaries), they probably just made the character that as a story reason for their inclusion.
Using references in the anime - especially the English one - isn't the way to go. Especially considering game staff haven't confirmed any such thing.
I could be wrong too, but Audrey Hepburn doesn't have any apparent link to France nor does her design otherwise evoke her so it would seem to make very little sense.
Either way, stating it as a fact without confirmation is definitely not the thing to do.

I always wanted Diantha to be a bit more as a character, but I always felt like it was fitting her team was asthetically pleasing. Cynthia was my favorite as well. Nice video!

How exactly is Wallace cheap? If anything, he was the most easiest Champion because unlike the others, his entire team was nothing but mono-types/Water. I've heard of people sweeping his team with just one Pokemon, even those with type disadvantages! He's probably just as bad or worse than Diantha in terms of strength and putting him on the same or even higher level than Steven, absolutely makes no sense.
And how is Steven's battle not memorable? When I first played Ruby, I was legitimately shocked that a character in the game who took on a mentor/older brother role and constantly helped you out, was the Champion. Not to mention, he was a challenge and in ORAS he's even more strong, especially with his Mega Metagross and the second time you face him.
I thought this video was okay until you brought those two things up. Also, Diantha's name is pronounced Die-antha and Devon is pronounced Deh-vin not Dee-von.

Personally I find Cynthia mildly overrated since a great deal of her character seemed really repetitive in her role as champion and it's those aspects about her character I don't find as original if not as interesting. While she has one of most powerful champion teams to date; much like Diantha it lacks a strong sense of theming and it's pretty much a collaboration of simply rare Pokemon; outside of Flint, and Aaron I find the Sinnoh Elite 4 set up just incredibly disappointing. Not bad; just disappointing.
I mean as far as Steven's team goes; it carries along with his overall character aesthetic; was flexible with said aesthetic and ultimately made it cohesive and work. His Sandstorm team overall was almost resistant to every type; let alone how his character was established; unlike lance; Steven's role as champion was never hinted or revealed throughout the game until you faced him. Lance already had a preestablished character a game prior. While Steven was introduced as a stone enthusiast who was a sole heir to a company and was very knowledgable and wel connected trainer to boot. He established himself as an another entirely different character before revealing himself to be the strongest trainer in the Reigon. The fact he lived up to this mentor role; overcoming him as your last challenge had great emphasis on this fight because it really establishes your growth as a trainer. In a lot of ways it had that similar build-up that the fight with Norman did.

When I first played ruby as a kid I never thought Steven was the champion, I was really surprised when I got to him
I think Cynthia's team does have a theme, wich is myth. Think about it, moste of her pokemon are some of the rarest in Sinnoh, most of them that you won't see until you fight her, and what does she studie in archeology? Myth. Spiritomb isn't foundable without a guide, Feebas require ridiculous luck and you can still screw up at evolving it, Gible is only founded in a cave that most people didn't knew it existed until they looked up where to find a Garchomp for themself, Gastrodon is the only common thing in her team, Roselia evolve by using a rare stone, Togekiss is believed to only apear in myth in the pokemon world, Lucario is not all that better with all the aura crap. Plus, her team have max IV. Yeah, her team theme is myth and rarity, and it's normal seeing how she studie archeology.
Hands down, Lance is the best elite four member with his interactions with you through out the game and a wicked battle. I do think Steven Stone deserves a close second though.

Red is a mysterious character who defeated Lance and got all the gym badges consider him a champion but he didn't want the position he gave it to Blue once he beat Lance and of course got all the gym badges but he gave up the position to so your right Red is not declared an official champion although he should've accepted the position and he did what it takes to defeat Lance.

He isnt champion. After you beat the Elite Four YOU become champion, but Kukui challenges you

No he isn't, there are several island champions. You are the first champion in Alola, Kukui never had a significant position in Alola with the exception of being a professor

While I think it's true that most players aren't playing for the story I think a lot of players live for the characters. You can have an incredibly weak plotline but if you have interesting characters it generally can make up for it.
I was also frustrated by X and Y's lack of puzzles. The vast majority of gyms didn't feature any kind of puzzles just unique ways of walking. I enjoyed the strength puzzles but there weren't all that many.
I get that this set of games was created to be more accessible to people with busy lives but I don't think they gave players enough options to fulfill other needs elsewhere.
I don't view X and Y as bad; just forgettable. But on the positive side, I think all the work that went into Generation VI, ORAS included, should prime Generation VII to be even better. Generation VI had divert a lot of resources to such a massive graphic shift. It makes sense that other areas were lacking as a result. But the great thing about 3D models is how reusable they are.

You can't just say Gen 3 is the same as Gen 6.
kisasohma11 The remakes are part of the Gen they are released in, not the original.
They could theoretically go back and release more in those Gens if they wished because it's the mechanics and the available Pokémon that determine what Gen the games belong to. It just wouldn't make sense to.
OR/AS has the mechanics and available Pokémon of a Gen 6 game and thus is Gen 6. Just as FR/LG were Gen 3 games and HG/SS were Gen 4 games.

Lopunny is the greatest pokemon ever and its shiny is even better and if you don't agree than your opinion doesn't matter. Plus, the Sinnoh region is the best region of all of the pokemon games. The only bad thing about it is Cynthia, who you somehow like. How dare you say it's the worst. Unova is the worst, especially in Black and White 2.

In my opinion:
1. Diantha: Beautiful design, theme, and backdrop; highest levels on the first run; battles with style.
2. Cynthia: Creative design; cool theme; tough but satisfying payoff.
3. Alder: Surprisingly not fought on the first run; strong Bugs; cool old guy.
4. Wallace: Better replacement champ; tricky even with a full-Water team; flamboyant.
5. Steven: Wasn't much of a challenge even with the Mega Metagross; makes his problems someone else's (killing off innocent people to stop a meteor).
6. Gary: "It was his sled."
I did not include Lance or Iris because I did not play the Johto games or Black 2/White 2.
Oh, boy, I can't wait t see cynthia. I'm currently working on Platinum, and I haven't even like... talked to Cyrus yet, except around the battle with Jupiter.

Every time I see something about a difficult part in Platinum, I just remember my first main-series adventure where I only used Empoleon until finding Dialga and Palkia. I used one Empoleon in a late-game electric gym, all of the Elite 4, and the champion. I still don't understand how I used to be so good at video games.
I agree. Cynthia was the hardest. It took me three battles just to defeat her. But it was fun while it lasted. Also, intensity.
One thing that Blue had going for him is his theme. I personally think it is the best Champ theme, with Cynthia's very close behind. One thing that I also love about Cynthia actually made an appearance not as a Champion in a later game that was not part of a competition like the Pokemon World Tournament or the Battle Tree. She has a summer villa in Undella town in Black and White and one of my favorite things to do is to go and battle her, because she is much more of a challenge then Alder.

Congratulations you have been chosen for something special. I'm doing a Pokemon Platinum Playthrough and after I'm doing Alpha Sapphire. I decided to nickname a Banette or I might decide to get Absol and nickname after you should I nickname it Tamaashi or something else
I agree with everything about Steven except for the part about his final battle. Perhaps I'm biased because it was my first game, but I always thought Steven's battle was one of the most challenging champion fights of all the games. I usually never did any extra training throughout the game, so my Pokemon were low forties when I fought him, and man, his team was lethal, mostly because of Metagross and Cradily. But that's just my opinion! I really enjoyed the video, Tamashii!
