I'm 55 and still in 2024 this song still gives me the chills. Rest easy Bobby and Tommy DeBarge ❤️
The guy in the white is Bobby Debarge the older brother of El Debarge. Bobby was a muscial beast he sadly passed away. The other lead is Phillip Ingram the brother of James Ingram.
Facts
You forgot about Tommy DeBarge on bass!
Yall I just forget about poor Tommy DeBarge he's the bass player!
Goats
Breast is the best way to describe Bobby. Sadly rest easy Tommy and Bobby DeBarge ❤️🌹❤️❤️❤️
This why 70s and 80s music gets played on the quiet storm radio hours
Bobby Debarge is a Music God. Yes He Is That Good 🌟🌟🌟🌟💎🙏🏽👑👑
Bobby Debarge Is In A League Of His Own
I’m sure somebody already said it but they don’t make songs like this anymore. Actual love songs are so rare these days. So glad you appreciate this classic!!❤
SWITCH
I CALL YOUR NAME!
I love seeing the younger generations disciver this music. The reactions are awesome
Written and produced by the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Jermaine Jackson
Bobby Denarge is an all-time great vocalist! The Debarge Unsung left me speechless and truly sad!!
Her reaction is priceless 😂
I used to love this song, it's what we used to call a slow dance song..I've been listening to this song again lately...I remember when this song came out I am 63 yrs old now and it still gets to me.😊
This is why I feel so blessed to have grown up on that music in the 70's💜
When this album came out, my sister, cousin and I literally ran to our local record store and brought the album. We ate, slept, went to school and took this album Everywhere we went for months. Played it on our stereo Religiously and then....met them along with Jermaine Jackson, who was their manager at the time, at the same local record shop. Got our album autographed and even had great conversations. One of Thee Best days of my life.❤❤❤❤❤
I love love love this song. Everytime I play it…..repeat
True story over here! Just happened this morning!!😂❤
I'm 63 yrs old and your reaction to the music i grew up on brings me joy i had too sub
Wow! Switch was an amazing group with great music. Bobby DeBarge easily one of the greatest voices in music R.I.P and his talented brother Tommy DeBarge R.I.P and the brother of the late great James Ingram R.I.P Philip Ingram who still is a great singer in his own right. Wasted talent, such a sad ending for Bobby DeBarge.
Many of the guys was handsome guys back in our day. They didn't wear those extremely skinny jeans either. Lol! Those guys had real talent. Romance music was so amazing until 2000.
Switch My Favorite Group Ever. The Effort They Put In Their Songs.
The guy on the bass guitar is also a deBarge brother. Extremely talented family.
That would be Tommy DeBarge.
Tommy Debarge
He do look like J. Cole on the bass LoL
Damn that Bobby Debarge!
Baby when you see grandma get on your knees and tell her you love her and you thanking the lord for her. Because if it wasn't for her listening to this kind of music. You wouldn't have been in this world.
If you get the chance, check out Switch - There'll Never Be (1978). The other part of this video... They also have a song named I Call Your Name which has been sampled by so many artist.
True... "There never be" was their best imo.
On that first album, We like to Party, is a great dancing 🎵 🎶
They are a very powerful group, stay blessed mighty and strong.
True love songs from back in the day. That's how we used to get down.
“Switch” because they were so multitalented they all could/did “switch” roles and instruments. First slow danced on this song at my 8th grade dance…nearly got in trouble. 🤣
This was my group back in high school! I saw them in concert back then. All the men were jealous and wouldn't let their women react to them. Fortunately, there were plenty of single women there who were able to act a fool!😂
You enjoyed that. Good! Have a reaction to their other hits: There'll Never Be, I Call Your Name and Love Over And Over Again. Can't wait to see your reaction.
So many good songs from back in the day. Fla native here too👍🏾
"Walk Away From Love" by David Ruffin is also a virtuoso vocal performance, Ashley.
There are so many great vocalists that we will grateful to listen to.
Calling all girls from switch was my jam
Yes lawd
You need to listen to the whole album, it's awesome.
The first vocalist is James Ingram's baby brother. Who was James Ingram? 100 Ways; Immo Be There w/Michael McDonald; Baby Come to Me w/ Patty Austin .. . The 2nd vocalist and the guy on base are the brothers of El Debarge. The 2nd vocalist is deceased.
Can you please just say his name his name is Bobby DeBarge and he is the lead singer of the group
They were called switch bc they were so talented they could switch instruments
Good Memories !
Yes this was our music ❤…. Stayed listening to quiet storm radio 😊
Bobby's brother El was in the Secret Garden/Quincy Jones video that you reacted to. His voice is identical to Bobby's
Bobby DeBarge voice deserves more credit than he's getting maam!😮
I’m 70, and was in love with a Wonderful Real Man!!! We Sang these Lyrics Together, in our Sun- Roof Top, White Gran Prix, just loving Life and Each Other!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ He looked like Phillip Ingram!! 🎉🎉🎉
I wish thy had this kind of music still that's smooth
I love your reaction to this beautiful old school music. For you to be so young, you have a good ear. Applaud you.
Great show ,they are blessed mighty and strong.
I’m so glad ur enjoying these songs..
Love your channel, and your music vibe. Girl you haven't even cracked the surface of old school music have for you.
So so so very heart breaking of what happened to the DeBarge siblings. Much Love and Respect for life 💔💔💐💐✊🏽✊🏽❤❤🙏🏽🙏🏽
Many a drawls was rolled down to this music, baby. Anywho, I gotta get back to this Quiet Storm on V103.
I LOVE your videos!! That first note gets me every time, so I understand. Keep 'em coming!
I've watched several of your reactions between Switch, The Manhattans etc. Your taste is impeccable. It's so refreshing to see another young person like myself with an old soul. Keep doing your thing! Please react to Deba Laws - Vey Special and Joe Simon - Before the Night is Over. Your welcome in advance lol. Take care.
Can’t wait 2 see your reaction 2 their more famous songs!! 😂😂
Ashley, I am enjoying your reactions. You seem to appreciate the words, vocals, instruments, arrangements, and the ambience. Keep it up.
Recently discovered this song baby when I say this was my EXACT reaction!! They tore this down bad, you gotta get into Switch I love them!
Lead singers Phillip Ingram(younger brother of the late James Ingram), Bobby DeBarge(eldest DeBarge Brother (El's eldest brother) RIP). Bassist Tommy DeBarge (RIP)
Bobby DeBarge was my first real crush back in the late 70's. Switch music was really great music. The new generation may not like it but, I'll never stop loving Switch music from the 70's and 80's.
I was 8 or 9 when Switch came out. My older cousin bought their albums. It was love at 1st sight!! They were fine & could sing, sing
Another group from OHIO !! I use to see TNT FLASHERS all the time in Mansfield, ohio, and the Cleveland area. They put Bobby Debarge with TNT FLASHERS in Mansfield and they first recorded there. Turned out to be a classy, classic group from BACK IN THE DAY !!! ❤😅 ❤
Yeah thats right we had the music,
These boys can sing the drawz off a nun!
My first time listening to switch was by accident I will never forget it happened earlier this year and Bobby DeBarge voice has helped me for real and I thank the lord for this
Detroits own.., Switch and Debarge.
I thought he look like his brother i didn't know the other was Ingram brother ❤❤❤love this song all yea rip 🙏
Brother Phillip Ingram can and still sings that tune wonderfully, he’s tremendously talented. And Bobby Debarge is missed tremendously and absolutely one of the all time best R&B vocalists
Ashley, this was some surnuf baby making music from back in the day. And there was a lot of it.😁 We would be slow dancing to tracks like this. That falsetto voice you're loving is Bobby Debarge. To hear more of that check out I Call Your Name, and There'll Never Be. Also Bobby and his siblings make up the group Debarge. And they put out some great music like Rythm of the Night, I Like It, All This Love, Time Will Reveal, and Who's Holding Donna Now? And your grandma definitely knows this music😂 She can certainly suggest a few songs for you 😊
You touched every base on this comment of yours.
Another family music recording group that was on "Unsung" is The Sylvers.
Their story also has family members that are tragic.
Both DeBarge and The Sylvers should have been as successful as The Jackson family.
I guess that Michael Jackson being the only one to destroy himself in his family are pretty good reasons to give them more of the spotlight.
I don't know if La Toya Jackson qualifies as being self destructive. She just seemed to have committed embarrassing media attracting actions.
@@martyemmons1859 Thanks, I appreciate it! And your comments were on point as well. And those "Unsung" stories were really eye opening to the tragedies of so many artists. It gave so much insight into their lives that we never new.
Bobby DeBarge still doesn't get the props he didn't get it when he was alive so I am glad she accepted my song request and Bobby DeBarge and switch
@@sammjackson70 So true!
@martyemmons1859 Michael Jackson worked hard to get the credit he deserves he also was abused so don't discredit the Jackson's like that!😮
Your expression was ours whe we first saw this performance! My favorite by Debarge. We thought they were fine and they could sang!!
That's Crazy, One brother is James Ingram, and the other is El debarge family members.
Switch is my #1 group sense I was a young boy!
YOU NEED TO HEAR " KEEPING SECRETS" TOO...
If you like that one, (and I know you did)😉 they have a few more, alot more.
You should dig into those 70s and 80s R&B Slow Jams alot more
Play another "Slow Jam" this time make it sweet (Midnight Star)
This was the 1st album i bought at 17. Im 60 now and listen to songs lately as i drive working. Songs of tru love. ❤
Michael Jackson's older brother Jermaine Jackson found and promoted this singing group. The second singer with the white jacket on and the rose on the lapel of his jacket is the older brother of the singing group DeBarge. One of his younger brothers in the singing group DeBarge used to date Michael Jackson's younger sister Janet Jackson. They had a beautiful black mother with a white father. The debarges told their family story. and they said thatTheir white father suffered constant racism from his own people because he had a black family. That second singer, the oldest brother of the singing group DeBarge's father beat him so brutally as a child, the older brother immersed himself in drugs until it killed him as an adult. Because they're white father had half black children and a black wife, when he worked at certain jobs and his white bosses found out, they would fire him. so he blamed his black family for it. he would come home and beat up his family and take it out on them. and also at least one other sibling in the singing group DeBarge also died from drug use because of the long history of abuse as children from their father who also beat their mother constantly.
Take notes Ashley!😊 This was music. Fiinnnne guys!!
You are hilarious 😂
Bobby Debarge is a Music God. 💎👑🙏🏽🙏🏽💎💎💎🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Thank you!
Cant believe you found this live.
YES...Your Grand Momma...My Grand Momma....and Everybody else's Grand Momma Listen to them...
Goats
New subscriber here. I officially love your channel and you too. Your reactions remind me of my son’s when he listens to my and my ex-wife’s record collection.
That’s James and Bobby Debarge singing lead.
That’s when we had Lovers…girlll… this is when men really loved us.
Lol, your grandma bumpin this...me and your from the same generation
Its a shame they were short lived cus switch was DA TRUTH!!! The oldest debarges ,james ingrams brother phillip they all could sing and play instruments they was da DEAL
DeBarge in the house!!!
Bobby and Tommy DeBarge was in the group Switch. Tommy is in guitar.
back in those days, it seems cats used to sing beautiful songs to sistas in showing heartfelt appreciation for sticking by their men through thick and mostly thin when we, the people, had to struggle every day just to maintain a minimal semblance of self-respect and provide any which way they can to maintain and raise a cohesive family unit!
Tommy Debarge playing The Bass Bobby Debarge singing lead with James Ingram brothers
I should have known you were a home girl by the cleverness of your personality. Florida funkateers in the house.
Switch has another jam called, Calling on all girls ! Check it out
love your content love your channel. keep doin what you do. and your smile is contagious
That group came out when I was 14. I had a major crush on Philip Ingram. That group was the bomb long before that phrase was popular, beautiful musicianship, beautiful harmony, nit to mention good looks. That song was my jam. Classics never die. The first album was bad.
Oh yeah, some of my friends became parents before they were ready listening to Switch, Barry White, EWF, etc.
Anutha jam!
Bobby got pipes! Check out the baby brother El debarge Love me In a special way🔥🔥
Show Bobby DeBarge to credit he deserved I don't care how much you hate on his voice show him the love he deserves
This was a slow jam that would have folks on the dance floor slow dancing with some serious passion and intentions for later.
One of the male singers (Chico(?) Debarge) is also part of Debarge - you’ll love them. Several hiphop songs sampled Debarge.👌🏼
That's not Chico that is Bobby and Tommy they are the older brothers. Bobby Debarge rest in peace he was a musical beast.
@@bam55sgarage77 👍🏼 Have you seen the ”Unsung” series about Debarge and other soul/funk artists/groups?
@@OlleStahlberg yeah I watched a couple of The Unsung series but I am a serious music lover I like everything from Cab Calloway Billie Holiday all the way down to Babyface that Debarge story is such a sad one though
Good stuff
Thank goodness I stopped at only 2 kids 🤣🤣🤣 They're 12 years between them.
Next to the Jackson's, the DeBarge family was the best family of singers
That is El Debarge's Uncle singing tenor
You got to do the whispers in the mood if you haven’t already
You must hear " I Like It " by DeBarge you will love it
Women are the reason Men don't give this effort anymore
That's Bobby Debarge and Phillip Ingram
