It seems like it does matter where their first bite it. If it’s a bony area, they won’t care as much about you after that initial bite unless desperate. If it’s a butt or thighs, you are pretty much screwed for sure. But then there are those attacks of people just getting bit completely in half and devoured in basically two bites.

Sharks tend to get close to humans as warnings their in there fishing grounds, 3 weeks and for that shark to only bite him one time is ridiculous. Imagine telling someone to stop eating your food for 3 weeks. Shark took it easy on him. And for the shark it clearly has an extreme level of tolerance.

I read that huge sharks typically bite humans to “taste”, but once they taste the human is bony and no fat or muscle compared to a seal they lose interest. The problem is that single bite may make you bleed out.

Nah sharks don't bite to taste, they're extremely cautious. If he bites you he sees you as food. After 1 bite they often get scared and run away in fear of damage since most ppl flail around.
So that's not wrong, but there's also another angle. While a lot of attacks are based on exploratory bites, a lot of shark behavior also shows that there's a first ambush bite to fatally wound the prey, then they come back when the prey slows down or stops

Sometimes out of curiosity, but far more often they think it’s a seal, which is what happened here, the surfboard makes you look like a seal. Do NOT go surfing with sharks around (wouldn’t go swimming either but it’s safer)

It's not even correct, this shark clearly was looking for something to eat, noticed that what he thought was a seal was a surfer and didnt eat the surfer. Surfboards just look like big seals from underneath, that's why sharks sometimes attack surfers

Marine biologist here, a shark wont bite you because it is hungry. A shark will bite you for the purposes of finding out WHAT you are and HOW you taste, think of a sharks mouth like our hand, we use them to feel objects and with that we know if they are hot or cold, spiky or smooth, heavy or light. Only five or six sharks have ever attacked humans twice simply because they don't like the taste of human blood. A study was done with sharks by pouring 10 litres of fish blood, cows blood, human blood and saltwater (as a control) into the sea, no more sharks visited the area of the human blood than there were sharks which visited the area of the control which pretty much confirms they aren't interested in eating us.

Please, I'm constantly amazed at the amount of people who don't understand that water depth has no bearing on a shark, of any size.
IF YOU'RE STANDING IN IT, A SHARK CAN MOST LIKELY GET THERE ALSO.
Here are a few safety pointers I learned as a child growing up with the ocean from East/West, North/South.
*If it's a time of year where sharks are usually hanging out in your area; visit beaches with netting, don't go beyond the netting.
*Visit public beaches where there are volunteers avidly searching for sharks via boat, helicopter, drones, etc..
*Learn to float if you don't already know how. This helps to minimize splashing (looking like prey) to an ocean predator. This also helps if you're ever stranded in conserving your energy.
*Don't lay on boogie boards with your arms and legs sticking out the sides. This is visually reminiscent of a seal to a shark who is looking UP at you.
*Don't wear jewelry or other shiny items.
*Don't swim during during dusk and dawn transitions. Most sharks are neither nocturnal nor diurnal, but are known to be active hunters during daylight/night transitions.
*If you are attacked, HUG that cute old thang until it gives up. No joking aside, actually hold onto it if possible, the shark will try to thrash and attempt to bite continually. If you can manage to hang on this lessons your chances of consecutive injuries.
*In the mean time dig fingers into it's eyes, gills and nose. They're not used to prey fighting back.
*Then book it to the shore line, a boat or whatever is closest.
MOST SHARK INJURIES ARE FATAL DUE TO TIME RESPONSE.
That's all I can think of for the moment and all I can really remember. None of this is scientific or anything. It's just common knowledge that was given to me growing up with the oceans a daily part of my life.
**Just remember that you should always be diligent when you're in any wilderness area!** We've become too civilized and rarely remember, that not for evolutionary quirks, we'd be soft, easy pickings on the food chain and are still seen as such to plenty of species.

What is wrong?
MOST sharks are curious and just inspecting you. However, they're not used to fighting their prey SO IF YOU ARE BEING ATTACKED, FIGHT BACK.
Chances are if you're bit once, they tend to leave it at that. Knowing how to fend off one who is interested in having a human for dinner is responsible. Statistics don't matter much in the wild, so when you're swimming around in someone's feeding grounds, knowing a few realistic tactics helps.

@@lostagain2226 Sharks will not feed on humans do a tiny bit of research, I'm studying marine biology and I can tell you that sharks won't attack twice, you can attack them if you want out of frustration but it is likely that that shark will then die if you punch its nose because thats how they find food and it is very delicate.
"There has been sightings of a great white in this area for the last few weeks. I'm going to paddle out in my tiny Kayak and attract fish to my location with bait". Humans really can be truly and utterly stupid.

And he was on a surfboard, which has been investigated and shown a few different times that the silhouette can "fool" a shark into thinking it's a seal.

It cracks me up when people talk about how chill sharks are and how safe they are. Sharks are being sighted on coasts more and more often, swimming right by surfers and beach goers. I know they’re usually passive, but they do attack people just like this.
