    The missile indicator on the left side of the hud that you mentioned is for range. The upper bar is maximum range, the lower bar is minimum range (though in practice the min range is more of a suggestion), the arrow is the target range. The max range will adjust depending on conditions such as the target's relative velocity to you as well as your altitude. In case you haven't noticed, your radar GUI on the right side also does this on it's right side, with two short lines for max and min range and one long line for target range, and it will do this on nearly every plane in the game that's 3rd gen up, with every kind of missile they can carry. If you have a target locked/selected in tws and a missile selected and the lines aren't showing up, it means that the target is well outside your missile's max range at the moment.

      Correct and in DCS it has 3 bars, with the middle one being the NEZ for your selected missile and the arrow is what range you sit at compared to the 3 distances for your launch parameters.

    I've come to really love the ET, it brings some really nice utility as a long range IR since it can't be spoofed by ground clutter like all radar missiles. I fly out with both and use the ER where u normally would, and then will use the ET to counter ground level meta players. It's particularly useful as a hard counter to someone trying to disengage from the fight, they will dive to the deck fast as possible and the ET has the legs to catch them out to around 6-10km in a tail chase, and rear aspect within those ranges the IRCCM will do its job most times even if the enemy is paying attention and starts flaring. Ofc it's nice for stealthy IRST shots too but particularly for the above scenario where the target will know about you already I'll generally stay in a hard PD lock to counter any periodic flaring(IRST can sometimes start tracking flares), and since it's an IR missile they won't recieve any CW missile alert from their rwr when the ET is launched, people rely on that now so they never go hard defensive with large flare bursts and cranking manoeuvres which is generally the only way they will defeat the missile at those closer ranges. Great addition to the Russian arsenal.

      @squishface80085  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Yeah I think I forgot to cover other situations that the ET is good for. Dealing with guys that you are tail chasing is actually one of the better use cases as you have pointed out. My understanding is that if the ET gets to rear aspect within a certain range it is basically not flareable.

    • @skilz2kil528
      @skilz2kil528 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yeah, the r27 IRCCM is basically the same as the r73. It has some flare filtering capability but primarily the IRCCM is based on shrinking the seeker FOV post launch to an extremely narrow view. Thats why both the r73 and r27T(ET) are practically unflareable within like 3km range in side/rear aspect because the seeker is looking at such a tiny portion of the target that it literally does not see the flares at all. Technically u can flare them inside that range - but u basically have to get a significant amount of flares in between yourself and the missile while also actually in view of the seeker, which at those ranges is so small that its like a direct laser beam to your engines, so its extremely difficult - and depends heavily on the exact angle the missile is approaching from and your aircrafts flare dispersion pattern.

    5:53 for r73, I have found it usually never needs radar slaving when firing within 3km. For the r60s however, sometimes helps

      If the current model goes live...It'll be okay but probably not enough to change the balance of Sim battles. Flight model wise it is more capable than the current MiG-29 but perhaps less capable than the old MiG-29; it's definitely going to be harder to use.
      It's going to have same problem that F-14 does where it's the size of your mother and everyone will see it coming from miles away.
      I think something like the Gripen is going to unironically be better in Sim because of how small it's visual signature is, and the fact that it's most viable playstyle is going to be sneaking around with Aim-9M.
      On the other hand, it's going to be really good at farming PvE players during build events though because of 6 R27ER.

    Honestly whenever I'm outnumbered usually on russia I just climb to 11km at the edge of the map over friendly airfields and go and fight zombers or other fighters at altitude. If you don't climb over the battlefield most ppl don't look up and see you, even if they do they can't catch you from behind. If they attack head on from below your r27 will out range and outspeed thier missle anyways. It's fun to bully f14s and f4 zombers

      If you have missile seeker turned on and it is not slaved to TWS...you just look around. You can also change radar to HMD IRST or HMD PD and then look at target, and push a button to lock it.

    Hey ! When a video on the beautifull Mirage 2000 ? Before the patch it had a great chance to deal with F16 and M29 as well. But today the flight model has been nerfed as much as the M29 model. It’s sad and obnoxious.

      @@squishface80085 yeah. Another thought occured to me. The additional issue is not only the flight models changes, but also, there are, what, 5-6 planes that got 9m's. Russia got one plane with the R73 and two that got the ET. 9.13 didn't get any upgrades. The 141 didn't get its 73, and the MLD didn't get the 73. The last one definitely doesn't need it but man it would be funny

      Please don't speak the 6 R-73 ML/MLD/MLA combo into existence. It would be so joever for the "barely not top tier" bracket!
      Off the top of my head, the 9M was added to 4 planes; the F-16C/D and the Harrier GR.7/ Italy Plus Ultra. Of those I think that only the F-16C/D are the only planes that end up forming a de-facto hard counter to the MiG-29... while the Harriers end up being quirky vtol plane with good missiles. At least the latter is something that most players can understand that there is some counterplay.
      When it comes to SMT vs 16C, or just the almost permanent +4 advantage that exists right now..most people are going to feel suffocated playing any top tier Russian plane.
      Right now the F-16C dogfight doesn't even boil down to it winning by forcing a two-circle / counter playing against MiG-29s one circle...it just comes down to the F-16C losing on blatant trajectory mistakes / overshooting / flying in front of a plane that is stalled. It's not a fun dynamic.

      @@squishface80085 I want to speak it into existence just so I can beat NATO into submission on some other bracket(I kid it would be miserable). Does the barak get 9m or python3? I included it in my count but wasn't sure. I think my point with the airframe count was trying to show that NATO not only got the 16's but that you also have a general buff to their entire lineup as a whole. Russia being the only country getting 73's and also only having one plane getting them isn't a buff to Warsaw. It's a buff to a plane. Writing this is making me realize this is an echo chamber of agreement

      I do not want to speak it into existence because the F5E already gets kind of low diffed by any MiG-23ML that can fold its wings out and hold lag pursuit for 15 seconds.
      According to what I just clicked...Barack Obama gets 7M, 9L, and 9M. It is probably a good thing it doesn't get python because I think the HMD with higher max pull would make that missile on par with the 9M...especially in current circumstance where one team just has more players.
