*RARE* Ex-N&W High Hood SD40-2 trails on NS 13R @ Hagerstown

  • I first originally decided to go to Brunswick after hearing CSX W003 was heading to Baltimore, but after finding out that NS 13R had a little something, I changed course and headed to Hagerstown. When I got there, I was in for a 45 minute wait for finally 13R arrived with a BIG Surprise. The unit trailing 3rd of 3, was a Ex-N&W SD40-2 still equipped with a High Hood. This would be my first time seeing this in person. Only a small number of these units are left on NS Roster. What's more, this train also happens to have a High and Wide load as the first car of the train (Which would later be dropped off at Manassas). After that, I packed it up & headed for home.     Glad you got it too! I sadly missed the NS N&W heritage as it was in Gettysburg…

    Something that’s not seen very often these days it’s very cool that both the Norfolk and western and the southern utilize the high nose configuration on all of their second generation diesels even on GE U-boat locomotives as Southern Railway had highnose U23B locomotives
