    On this and other BB King videos I've found him to be quite open about his shortcomings. It's a likeable and endearing trait.. So many guitarists, and musicians in general, are so far up their own arse they'd never dream of pointing out their playing/singing weaknesses. More power to BB!!!

    This video (and all the awesome and positive commentary) has me tearing up as I write this. B.B. was (and will always be) legitimate. He was 100% REAL. Imagine being one the world's most revered blues players of all time... and still admitting that you struggle with chords and rhythm! How HUMBLE and HONEST!
    As an "intermediate" when it comes to playing "lead" (or soloing), I straight up identify with what he's saying in this legendary interview. I'm weak on my intermediate and advanced chords. I have worked so hard on developing my "touch" and my sound and my scales and modes that I have neglected the many essential underlying chords and the theory behind the solos we all love to hear.
    When he looks into the camera and urges learning guitarists to study their chords and rhythm... I felt like he was reaching through time and space to speak directly to ME! I know he's talking to everyone out there who can relate, but he perfectly nailed exactly where I am currently struggling.
    He tells all this humbling truth and then produces some of the sweetest, warmest, most heartwarming riffs and licks I've ever heard.... effortlessly... and then goes on to admonish himself about his lack of expertise in the other areas of playing. Just a humble, amazing man.

    There's an intimacy, a vulnerability in Mr King's playing and his demeanor in conversation. No pretentious ego. Those of us who love the blues feel every word he played. Those of us who play the blues would gladly sit at his knee to hear Lucille speak the things words could not convey.

    Wow such an honest interview. A man with an incredible ear and recognises his strengths and weaknesses. What he does well he does really well and focuses on that. He recognises that music is bigger. But even with his age, experience and a little bit of luck he succeeded but even the best of us get into situations and think I’m winging it here and it becomes a way of life.
    Either way B.B KING plays music that will touch your soul 😎🎸👍

      This is from footage that dates back to 1999 from Guitar.com. D'Addario owned guitar.com from 2002 to 2011 - we felt that this footage was too cool to just let go so we posted it. Granted the technology back then wasn't quite as good but it's still classic, vintage BB even still

    • @DavidBerlin
      @DavidBerlin Před 9 lety +1

      ***** I love the old-skool cellphone ring towards the end of the video. I can picture in my mind exactly what kind of cellphone that was--one of those old candybar cellphones. No internet, no GPS, none of that. Back then some phones didn't even have text messaging, and certainly none of them had graphics of any kind. Its funny to think that something that happened when I was 25 is now considered "old skool". When multi-FX came out everyone thought they were the rage of the future. Then they died out for a while because the technology at the consumer level didn't live up to the hype. Now we've got multi FX units that are as good as the pedals, at reasonable price points. Britney Spears had just begun to change popular music from rock based to hip hop/electrodance based.
