This is strange. I work in healthcare and tried to get a vet meals for vets and they said funding ran out.
They have no problem defending Ukraine’s border but not our border. It doesn’t pay to be a U.S. citizen anymore.

Our govt spends trillions domestically. Foreign aid is a drop in the bucket by comparison. In addition, it keeps America’s interests where it should be for a fraction of the cost of we had to fight Iran/Hamas, Russia, and China ourselves.
As a third generation US veteran, I fully support these countries receiving this and obviously both sides of the house agree.

Second, by giving this help to those countries, we don't have to send American troops to fight directly in those wars if Ukraine and the West were in jeopardy of being attacked by the Russians or Hamas. Foreign aid is part of our yearly budget. Most years, 40 billion is earmarked. In years where there is more stability, this can go up to 150 billion (or more). Yet, this is still less than 5% of our budget at worst and closer to 1% most years. Without investing in regional stability, we run a greater risk of having to put our soldiers on the field and spending Trillions.
The big picture is often lost when one fails to even look at the available information.

$95 billion for? Two questions: 1) Where does that money come from? 2) What kind of things could have been achieved to make things better in the USA with that money?
Right. and as if israel doesn't already have enough from us , Since at least the 80s We've been paying for their affordable healthcare, free education, and affordable housing. All the while America's economy is falling flat for everybody. That is in the bottom couple tax brackets.
1) From the revenue the US government brings in through various means, like taxes etc
2) $90 billion would make many things achievable to make the US better. Thankfully, a lot more than $90 billion has already been spent on the US the past 4 years.
The American Rescue Plan Act - $1.9 trillion on schools, childcare facilities, covid relief checks, unemployment benefits etc
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act - $1.2 trillion on roads, bridges, public transit, broadband and utilities
The CHIPS and Science Act - $52 billion for semiconductor manufacturing plants
The Inflation Reduction Act - $740 billion climate change mitigation, healthcare and energy security and clean energy initiatives.
So you see, Trillions have been spent on the US already and those wonderful and great things you called for are being built because of it.

I'm mostly with you. I'd like zero folks hurt or punished from wars. That said, given that the US spends more on military spending than the next 9 countries combined. $95B is just under 10% of US annual spend. It will, almost by definition, massively help the US economy (and refresh military preparedness too). Perhaps more importantly, the aggressors are near-universally condemned. End of the day? Seems horrible, but probably the right call.

Trump decided to change the tax laws so the rich don't have to pay their fair share. Biden has tried undoing that. If the rich, and corporations, paid what they should the average American would have a better life. That tax money could go into the basics, free education and childcare, healthcare, affordable housing, etc. Also, you should know that $55 billion in the package is actually money to be spent buying weapons from the USA. That means jobs for Americans. And after we get rid of Putin and Ukraine begins rebuilding, there will be more jobs there for Americans. It is not all going out and nothing coming in.

The the fact that Mike Johnson's son going to Naval Academy this Fall has something to do with his decision(s). He spoke about it. He says he'd rather send bullets then American boys... He is definitely willing to lose his position as the speaker of the house for his decision to work with Democrats.
He may not, Republicans are also tired of Greene's nonsense. And unlike with McCarthy the Democrats may vote to keep him in office. A vote for funding the government is coming up soon and if he is ousted then that's yet another long delay where nothing gets done because everyone is waiting for a new speaker to be elected. That and unless they can get Republicans on their side to vote for whoever they pick, the next speaker could be exactly who will do what the MAGA group tells them to do. There is too much at risk when if they can just hold out until November they'll likely have enough of a majority to control both halves of Congress anyway.

I don't remember before tRumpenstein, that either party has neen so disjointed in their goals before. I remember bipartisanship. There's interim housing right for the homeless currently in tents here in Los Angeles. But hardheads don't want to be off the streets and in housing, because a lot of them don't want to be "told what to do". We have empty beds right now, those folks could be off the street if they wanted to.

Not to mention, the cost of living rose before the minimum wage increase which led to a lot of unnecessary homelessness. I’m all for helping whoever, but my point was to clean up what we messed up first.
