The Breather gear is time so the port hole line up on the down stroke as it spins . the read valve just has reeds when the down stroke takes place the reeds open . no other moving parts .
I have a softail 1988 1340 evo motor and I’m having trouble with its dripping/spitting oil outta the breathing tube, I’ve changed the breather gear and the oil pump and it still fills a flask up if I sip tue it on the breather tube any advice ?
Add a Catch can or run a tube under the bike off a T I use a T and 3 hoses it is almost not noticeable I wash the bike year round Missouri has a longer riding season than most Northern states .
@@kennethwise7108 Not toast mean something is wrong Lifters I have had some you only run finger tight if you go 100 thousands they hammer or will not bleed down . some take 2 turns and others take 3 tuns . Then a Broken Valve spring could make it hammer , Now if you find Metal in the oil and the oil pump is not working your toast .

@@noahmcnaughton9955 I hope you opened it up and stuck it back in . the Breather shim works to keep the breather in the breather hole you find out what size shim to use by using a strait edge across the cam chest breather spins out of the hole . not into the hole , the S&S reed has no turning parts , the valves open let air out close air goes 1 way .
the S&S case has a good oilcut out so the splash bath gets in the cam good . it has a offset shoulder then the cam area has a stop will get a close up photo of a S&S case 3 times thicker than a H-D case
@@kennethwise7108 The bearing that crushed left a ring scuff mark , no damage just a thumb print . that's why it looks that way . I sent Video Cam in with 0.012 end play to you . you see everything is tight to the case .

@JCcanU what if it starts puking oil excessively and knocking really badly? Is that a sign that the motor is toast?

Thanks. Yea I seen the plastic bushing fell out under bike after I put it back together.

So the plastic shim does need to stay in with the reed valve?
