I have 3 Sofi Oksanen books "When the Doves Disappeared" "Norma" and "Purge" but havn't tried them yet.
I did an extreme reading challenge to read 7,000 pages in Jan and read 23 books.
Favorite was A Restless Truth by Freya Marske
Least favorite Girls Against God by Jenny Hval 1.25☆
Most impactful Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See 4.5☆
I read At the Mountains of Madness and gave it 3.5☆, it's much longer than the few other Lovecraft's I've read. It felt like 2 stories glued together with the going through the city bit in between, the thawing out an ancent wierd creature and getting destroyed by it and the guy seeing something that drives the guy mad at the end are more typical Lovecraft.
Ps let me know if you want me to leave shorter or fewer comments

Wow - 23 books in January is impressive!
I have been eyeing up Paradise Rot by Jenny Hval... what made you dislike Girls Agains God so much (a 1.25 rating seems pretty low!)?
Give Sofi Oksanen a go and let me know what you think 😉 After reading Dog Park I really see the potential but could also imagine her not really being my kind of author. Your range of books read is always so diverse - very cool!

Girls Against God had three main issues for me
1 It was about an artist, and artists giving meaning to everything and being pretentious bothers me a lot.
2 She is an atheist but is constantly talking about god and how much she hates him, instead of fighting the religion which does have power and uses it not a nonexistent deity.
3 It was marketed as a Time travel story but that was just daydreaming artistic nonsense imo
There's stuff I know I missed culturally and and politically in Norway in the 90s but that probably wouldn't have helped much

That sounds like I will be avoiding that one for sure! Pretentious art and lots of talk about God... nah pass 😅

what a span. I am glad you liked The Yellow Wallpaper, cause you have not had much success with feminist classics, if I remember correctly?

Hm, I am not sure I have read that many. The Handmaid's Tale could be considered a classic by now I guess, and I liked that. But yes - The Yellow Wallpaper was great, perfectly spooky 😊

🤨CZcams is playing games with me - either it deleted my comment or it needs to be approved - even though I did not say anything bad... 🥲

@@fayesparallelstories that I booked our Tickets for Leipzig and that you seemingly enjoyed Dog Park a lot more than I did 😜

Now I am doubting myself whether I was too nice about Dog Park 😆
Yippie for Leipzig!! Thank you ❤️
