      +OnionsAndPaste totally agree. It doesn't need to be a super confrontational debate for Dave to at least push back a bit or play devil's advocate. Larry Elder already has his own show, he doesn't need a platform to just put his arguments out there without any discussion. Dave says he wants to have a conversation, but that means he's going to have to at least start discussing issues, and not just letting people put out talking points.

      CriminalGameplay It was quite easy for blacks to vote for Republican when Republicans were in favor of civil rights. I think if you ask yourself why are blacks ostracized for voting republican you will find some pretty valid answers. Not to mention; women, gays, or any other ethnic minority.
      It's not cognitive dissonance, it wasn't a coincidence Republicans lost the North and the Black vote at the same time, who both started voting Democratic. The black vote has always aligned with who the North votes for, because the North generally picks the more liberal candidate.
      Here is a big reason why black people don't for Republicans.

      I would argue that in appropriate Hi-jacking of the term Liberal and pinning it to the Democratic Party did nothing but a disservice to the English language. You can, in-fact be both a Liberal and a fiscal conservative...that is what our founding fathers were when compared to their contemporaries. It was not until Jimmy Cater that the term Liberal was capitalized as a political label instead of what it truly is, the position that governmental role in personal freedoms should be absolutely minimal and that the people give the government rights not the other way around.

    I'm a black American, raised in a 2 parent household, I didn't always live in the nicest neighborhoods but we still did well, I graduated from college to become an educator and business owner. Honestly I haven't experienced much institutional racism. Consequently I don't see myself as a victim, but rather a champion in training. I believe that racism exists but is NOT the determining factor in my success or failure. By setting aside the victim mentality I've been able to pursue life to the fullest. Much of what Larry Elder says is true in regard to race in America. Black Americans who work hard and deny handouts and other forms of victim appeasement have found the path to true wealth. But there problem is that other blacks, especially the ones who blame everything on race, reject guys like me - I'm too "boujee". And many white American liberals are simply confused and frustrated by my existence. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this interview!

      It's because he's using the Socratic method: asking questions to stimulate critical thinking. Dave has cited how he's changed a lot of his positions and his beliefs specifically because of this conversation he had with Larry Elder. Elder put him on the spot: he asked Rubin "what's your evidence?" When Rubin said he thinks there is some systemic racism in this country, Elder immediately asked him what his evidence was for that, and please be specific. Rubin trotted out what was doubtless a belief he had acquired from the left (an simply never examined critically), that cops are more likely to target black suspects because of racism. Elder shot that down in flames with specific data to show how that belief was actually not only unsupported by any evidence, what evidence there was showed the OPPOSITE was likely true. Elder didn't let up either. He said, so much for that assertion, what else have you got? And Rubin couldn't come up with anything. Notice how quickly he backed off saying there was systemic racism, and moved to general racism among people in society.
      This is why Elder is effective: he uses the Socratic method, which forces his opponent to think critically and test his assumptions and beliefs against facts. When they can't do it, if they are honest, then like Rubin they begin to reevaluate their assumptions and beliefs and perhaps revise them. When they aren't intellectually honest -- like so many on the left -- they abandon any attempt at rational debate with someone like Elder and move to labeling, personal attacks, and outright character assassination.

But I'm unapologetic in my stance of not drinking the kool aid that we are held down. I grew up in the foster care system. I'm supposed to be a damn statistic. I have married with two children. Bought and sold a house, buying a second. Have my dream car. Have 10s of thousands of dollars saved and invested. You tell me where the racism is? Stop wallowing around and go and get your piece of the pie! Because the pie isn't gonna come fall in your lap. Unless you're an attractive female. But that's a different story. Point is, black people need to wake up and realize we are destroying ourselves by for one, not remaining together as a family, and two voting for politicians who haven't helped us in decades.
    It's said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
    I'd argue that somewhere in that definition if you look hard and long enough is "the political ideals of black people"

    The only cringe worthy part of this episode was around the 25:00 mark when Larry asked Dave to state just ONE racist thing that has happened recently and he couldn't. I almost felt bad for Dave because he seems like a good guy, but these kinds of things need to happen in order for open minded people like him to wake up.
    It's sad and unfortunate that even people that are obviously very smart like Dave, and open minded, need such incredible pushes to come to even just basic logical conclusions about the world.
    WHY is the world like this?!? Well I know the answer, but it isn't something that is allowed on CZcams anymore.

    • @LeeeroyJenkems
      @LeeeroyJenkems Před 7 lety +1

      I can give plenty of examples of racism towards whites in 2016, why is it that nobody from the left can do the same for blacks? The only things they seem to be capable of is creating, fabricating, and out right lying to further their goals of dividing and conquering the population. Just look at the recent Okeefe videos as a perfect example. Even with the likes of Soros, and the MSM/Establishment at their disposal, the DNC was unable to provoke racism from the right. Of course there will always be a few crazies from every group, but the truth is what it is. White people are extremely tolerant and the slave trade is not what you were taught it was.
      If you want to really know who used and abused slaves(especially Africans) look up the Arab slave trade...and look at the numbers of Africans enslaved in South America.
      Blacks have never been treated better than they have been in the US. Your whole paradigm is a lie. Sure they could be treated better, but so could EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD! Regardless of color/class.
      Blacks are simply being used as pawns in a game they will never understand.

      The interesting thing is that I believe Dave is one of the more free thinking among the left at this time. His opening monologue, I don't think he even realized how normal the left made it to bash conservatives. "Just because they don't agree with abortion, doesn't mean they hate all women". This seems harmless if you watch CNN regularly. But the alternative statement would literally be, "just because liberals agree with abortion, doesn't mean they want to kill all babies". That sounds ridiculously harsh and right wing nutjob-ish. But the proper neutral stance statement would have been, just because conservatives don't agree with abortion, doesn't mean they don't support individual freedoms. I'm impressed by how powerful a force Dave has become for conservatives. You can include him in a ridiculously small group of people that are truly fighting to make this country greater within the realm of his talents and reach. He fought for what he believed in as a liberal and helped people there, heard a person (Larry Elder) shock him with facts and ideas that he couldn't readily dispute. He dove back into his research, and came out fighting just as hard, if not harder, for the opposing side. But he isn't a traitor or a flip-flopper for financial gain, he's a patriot that has always been doing the right thing with the information he currently has. He has no problem calling out dangerous arguments from either side. He's a person I admire, and wish I had that kind of talent for listening and carefully responding respectfully while sticking to what I believe. He makes it look easy, and we all know it's not

      Careful now. If you keep listening to the strong points that the massive host of libertarian/conservative intellectuals have that they invariably back up with data and you might just not be on the left anymore . . .

    • @swordarmstudios6052
      @swordarmstudios6052 Před 7 lety +25

      Yeah that's why I'm a libertarian now.
      I like data, I find that libertarians often actually have more of that at their disposal. They also have reason, which I think they utilize better than the left.
      My first true love, above any political ideology is science. Math doesn't have feelings.
      Granted this guy is probally to the right of me a bit. But I do like Rubin because he takes a fact based approach, and I do think centrist leaning liberals in general have an honor and fidelity to understanding both principles and data, that I think there might be more to work with than the major parties would have people beleive in terms of og how people think.
      I have a counter argument to Larry though on Racism.
      The baseball card experiement. A white hand holding baseball card, a black hand holding the same card. Sold on ebay, the black hand card was worth about 20% less on average. Racial bias is very real. But i think it's more on the margins, and subconcious, as the experiement shows.

    • @MidlifeCrisisJoe
      @MidlifeCrisisJoe Před 7 lety +37

      Bryan Winter
      Wow, what a worthless experiment to prove your point. If you want a much better one, look to various experiements that show even nine-month-old babies show an in-group preference form members of their own race. There are a few out there, but here's one:
      onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-7687.2012.01138.x/abstract
      But that still helps to explain why such an experiment is a retarded example of proving "racism", especially with only a 20% differential.
      Because I don't think anyone studying neuroscience or developmental psychology or even social psychology would deny that there are in-group preferences amongst people, and that often enough, these fall along racial lines.
      But preferring your own race does not make you a racist. If that were the case then every single ethnic community that bands together in every city should be considered "racist." The fact that you might want to spend more time with your family rather than the immigrant family down the street could be seen as "racism" or that you're not attracted to members of other races (which a lot of dating sites that have revealed some of their data - like OK Cupid - shows) would be "racist."
      But none of those trends show racism, they only show in-group preference. To show racism would require some kind of proof that not only do people have an in-group preference, but they are actively excluding others for not being in that in-group (and that would a very liberal definition of racism [and I don't mean politically liberal, but very broad]).
      The problem with a study like that is demographics.
      Let's assume that between blacks and whites in the US, the percentage of Ebay users is roughly the same. It's a fair enough assumption, though it could be be that rates are wildly disproportionate (and I'd expect they are).
      But the fact is, the US' demographics breakdown so that it's roughly 60% of the population is white, and 13% is black.
      Without any need to say that whites are expressing disapproval for blacks in the country, but only a slight in-group preference, you'd get more people picking the white handed baseball card over the black handed baseball card.
      And that's just one factor in an experiment like that which can't be controlled for. Using a site like Ebay, which is out of the direct control of the proctors of such an experiment would undoubtedly have so many un-controlled for factors that would make pretty much any conclusion drawn from it scientifically worthless.
      Jumping to the conclusion of "racism" is frankly, ridiculous. It requires that the person conducting the study to have a very strong confirmation bias for seeing racism in events where in-group preference or even demographic trends or who knows how many other factors which are at play?
      But more to the point of Elder - I don't think he's ever argued that interpersonal racism doesn't exist. I don't know any sane person who does.
      His point is that there is no systemic racism. I.E. there are no racist laws on the books that exist. And he's going to be right eventually on that no matter what because even if some extremely racist county in the middle of nowhere passed a law that expressly discriminated against a race were passed, it would be struck down once one person sued that city and it went into a higher court due to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
      The fact is, some level of in-group preference is not only unavoidable, it's probably a biological impulse.
      But in-group preference does not racism make. Racism requires active thought against another person that leads to actions against another person solely on account of their race. And that's something that simply can't be legislated against. Nor should it be, because if it ever is, then we've entered a world where thought crime is real and we've crossed over into totalitarian territory.

      Its unfair to say stupid stuff like that. It could of been how the picture was taken, how blurry the quality was, the glare on the card, the history of the seller, the writing of the description about the card. But even if it was the fact that there was a small difference, that is still not racism because humans feel more comfortable around their own race because race is usually seen as divided in this country due to social stigmas that won't go away as a joke to point out racism when it doesn't exist on a blanket statement. Racial bias or racism in general is person to person.

      You won't be on the Left much longer. I was a typical Lefty. Fuck the cops. Fuck the corporations. Vote Obama cos he black. Now I'm center-right. There are SOME arguments on the left that may hold water in certain circumstances, but by and large the Right is way more about freedom, personal responsibility and scientifically-based solutions to economic and social problems. It's a tragedy that they're branded as homophobic troglodytes. It's by far the more intelligent side of the spectrum. Hopefully more smart, socially liberal people will come to the right and show people it's not all fascists and racists.

      Funny analogy but I don't see Larry as pissed off. He comes across as something that is increasingly rare these days and someone not used to it might see it as being angry. Are you ready? Larry is a serious person...there I said it...lol. I know he has a funny side because I've seen it, but the issues he talks about are very serious issues and he takes them seriously and refuses to clown around like some are apt to do.
