He just seems to be unusually stoical and likely processed atrocities as they were happening to him/he was committing them, and then later was like "Well... that happened. Anyway next". I believe this is what the youth refer to as 'based'. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that everyone who has terrible experiences suffers long-term psychological trauma because of them; that's projecting on the man's retelling of his experiences.

I wish more people in todays society would have more appreciation & interest in hearing these veterans stories.

C charlie company, amazing, I just watched another hero John Morgan tell his story of Okinawa, he was in company G that stayed to protect Charlie company's rear or flank while Charlie went up the hill that night to "do their thing" against the Japanese in the caves on that hill. John said it was awesome to watch Charlie company fight all night, watching the tracers and the flamethrowers till they subdued the Japanese. Amazing that these two heroes were in action there at the same time and still are here to tell their story. Thank you Walter for your and all of C Charlie company's service and sacrifice, I have no doubt that I would not be here today, or in a free Australia without you.

Remnants of the war are all over the island, the indigenous Okinawans had an appalling time of it, stuck between the Japanese and the Americans.
