I absolutely love this video. I was in this situation two years ago when I switched districts. You can also make a Shared Drive and drag the files in there to another Drive to avoid making copies. Thank you for sharing!

Last summer, she shared several necessary documents and folders with me, then deleted all her files. When I tried to open them during the school year, I couldn’t access them. Now I understand why.

I have many files set to Google formatting (sheets etc) and didn't want to see that messed up by just downloading.
I wasn't changing districts. I just wanted more control over my work. Once completed, I shared the main folder back to my school account.

I just realized, I have been watching your channel for years, and around the same time I found you,, I had the idea to become a teacher. Now with that thought being in my head for years, I want to become specifically a 4th grade teacher. Without realizing, you have become a huge part in deciding what I want to do when I get older.

From the “account” page of your Google settings, you can transfer an entire account’s drive and Gmail to another. This might depend on organization settings and on your personal needs, but works well!

OMG, I really appreciate your help with this.
This is incredibly helpful and helped put my mind at ease. One anxiety I have remaining is that my lesson plans include many hyperlinks to other materials on Drive, that once that are copied into a new drive will no longer activate (I am assuming my account will be deactivated if I leave my place of employment). Another thought I had is that my personal/free Google account does not have the storage required and I will need to upgrade it!

I cant thank you enough for this video. I was racking my brain because l had moved single files at a time, previously , mind you not remembering how l had did it. Now that I needed to move a hand full to a dozen it wasn't as easy. thnx again 5 thumbs up!!!
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much! One follow up question for once this process has been completed. If a file was shared via a link created on the OLD drive..what happens when end users click on that link? Will the system automatically know to redirect the end user to the version of the file that resides on the NEW drive? Or do I have to comb through all of the links that were shared on the OLD drive and update those links to be associated with the files on the NEW drive? Sorry for being so wordy, I hope that this question makes sense. Thank you!

If I followed you correctly, the new files are ones with "Copy of". So, do they need to be renamed to remove the "copy of"? Then the original files that were transferred would be deleted - Yes?

Hi, you can copy the complete folder if you have Google Drive of both accounts sync to your computer! That's what I personally did and it worked 😉

Hello and thank you for your videos! I follow your channel and tune in to new videos. :) When you are transferring the current drive (Drive 1) to your personal drive (Drive 2), do you change the general access from "restricted to anyone with the link". I'm not sure and from your video, it looks like, no changes were made to general access. As as I'm stuck on the this step, please could you help and thanks in advance.
Thank you so much! I got a mail that my old google account for my old school would be deleted in a couple of days. I got years of projects and pictures there that I ofcourse want to save. I shared the document and then downloaded the files as Zip files. I feel like the shared files would be deleted along with the google account, hopefully im safe downloading them. Thanks.
I was so excited when I saw this title thinking you knew something I didn't (I am pretty Google savvy). And it does not transfer this easy. I have all these shared docs or docs attached to Google Classroom etc, and I have TONS of files from teaching and this is a nightmare. I do not have time to make all those copies and it gives me a headache going back and forth to match up folders etc. Of course both schools I've tried to move files from now have not given me permission to transfer ownership and they even locked me out for periods of time for transferring too many. Because I worked with other teachers and we had shared docs and folders, and if even one of those was in a folder I tried to share, it wouldn't let me so I had to share files one by one individually and then it started asking me "are you sure you want to share" which was an extra clicks each time and then it locked me out altogether! I was really hoping you knew another way! But thanks for all of your help with other tips I picked up like Nearpod etc.

Thank you for this! I'm moving districts too, and have been frantically moving files! Once my drive from my former district is erased, will all the files that I'd shared to myself (not the copies...I shared files before I understood I need to copy) disappear from my new drive? Or do I delete them one by one. If they would just delete, I'd love it - less to clean up!

This is so helpful. I followed your instructions but I get a message that says ownership cannot be transferred. Ownership can only be transferred to another user in the same organization as the current owner. Can you explain and tell me how I get around this. Thanks

I'm trying to transfer a copy to share with iCloud. Once my current folders from Drive are on iCloud, is there a way to turn on iCloud to sync things back to Google Drive if need be?
