We've used a similar wheel website in 8th grade science on a couple assignments! One would give students and element that they would have to tell us whether it was a metal, nonmetal, or metalloid but you could also do it where students would draw a model of an atom for that element. We've also done a jigsaw activity with renewable vs nonrenewable resources where each group spins the wheel to get which resource they will research and share. These are great to put as an activity in something like a hyperdoc too!
I’m ESL Middle School Social Studies teacher and just started my Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). I seriously do not know how you do it! I'm a kindergarten teacher and during virtual teaching I used wheel of names a lot to play games and exercise (ex. do 3 jumps, walk like a penguin)
Michelle, I finished watching your video 20 minutes ago, and already created 2 wheels: one with student names, and one with numbers to practice graphing coordinate pairs. On my wheel, I wrote numbers such as -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and will spin twice: the first time for "x" and the second for "y". The students and I will be plotting the points as we spin. So much more fun than a worksheet! (PS--because my groups are small, to the wheel with the names of the students I added "Spin Again", "Repeat Last", "Everyone", and "Teacher's Choice" to add more variety.)

I’ve been using Wheel of Names for a while now and it is simply amazing. One thing I use it for a list of all 50 states. I found a seesaw activity in the community that had a story connected to all 50 states. Since the links to the stories wouldn’t work on my students’ chrome books I found that I can use the wheel to select a state and then I can paste the link into Seesaw for the students to go listen to that story. I teach 2nd grade so my students listen to 2 of these stories each week. I’ve been sticking to a Monday & Thursday schedule. I have popsicle sticks at school with the students’ names on them but I think I’m going to switch to wheel of names to limit touching something that I share with an EA.
Randomizers are life savers! For the sake of being equitable and not having to keep track with popsicle sticks (because who honestly has time for that this year?!🥴) these are fantastic tips! Thank you for sharing Michelle! 😊

Michelle - when I first saw the title of this video and the length, I didn’t know how it could possibly be that long. I used the basics of wheel of names at my placement school this semester when teaching virtually, but I had NO idea it could be used for so much more! Thank you for all these wonderful ideas. I was familiar with Wheel of Names already. (We used during Christmas to raffle the prizes.) But i still love this video because it showed me how i can use it for class! Plus the Add Image option. That's a game changer! Hope you can share more tools like this and Nearpod Time to Climb.

This is where you could add a group wheel. For example, I have pink, purple, and green chair organizers. So I added a section for each, plus the Zoom logo for my Zoomers. The kids LOVE it!

Thanks a lot. I love the way you can customize it. It is a pity though, the Wheel of Names does not have the function of splitting students quickly into pair, groups or teams (yes, you can do it, but it takes more time.) For that Flippity, Worwall or Classroomscreen are great - they have wheels of names + other functions, but there are different drawbacks to them compared to Wheels of Names. Apparently you can't have it all :(. Yet I am grateful for so many different tools.

Love wheel of names. I also use it in Virtual PE. I teach music too and was able to add pictures of different music symbols. Great tool.
This is the BEST thing I have seen lately. I'm going to use it today with my first graders. I even customized it with a picture of a bee. We are studying bees today. I'm tired of trying to remember who I calked on AND all those hands and angry faces that were selected. You are AWESOME!!!

I have started collecting books pre-K-5 since I don’t know my grade level and I may have advanced readers in 3rd. Anyways, I’ve only started buying books. What other things do you recommend?

If you share the Wheel to several people, is there a way to view and match the result for each Spinner? For example, maybe they can supply their e-mail before they spin so it attaches to the result they got from their spin/s? Also, is there a way to limit the number of spins for a shared Wheel?

I made an account via an email. Then I made a wheel and shared it with my nephew so he can use it to play a math game. My question is as follows: If I make an account with a google account instead of an email, can I share the wheel with my newhew and we can take turns spinning the same wheel- the same way you share any other document to collaborate on? Can the wheel be embedded into a peardeck or google slide?
Yes it can! I used this last week to do probability spinners with my class! I just added a little image of a spinner I got from Google next to the questions and then linked the wheels! The kids loved it!!
