  • Hello internet,
    Today I'm going to show you how to sound-design psychedelic glassy/metallic lead & percussion using both Xfer-Serum and Arturia Pigments2.
    The techniques used in this tutorial completes the [How to make Tristan/Nano records style metallic percussions in (OR OUTSIDE) Ableton Live] tutorial I've made a while ago specially the fact that I've made a mistake in that tutorial and I've corrected it in this one.
    I hope you like it :)
    If you have any suggestions for the upcoming videos, feel free to leave a comment.

      I think it might be the same person who asked us both x)
      Anyways, I think it would be best if we could give each others some visibility on the future topics were going to discuss in our videos so we wont post the same things twice the same week ;)

      @@olliepsy Yeah. that's a great idea even though having 2 people cover the same sound might be cool (to see different approaches). I'm working on a discord server for content creators where we can discuss topics like this but I'm not really getting much traction... maybe that can help here?

    The original sound is used from the formant complex oscillator mode on the virus TI i believe. I saw someone saying the Sundial wavetable in formant complex mode will create this sound. Since I don't own a Virus Ti I can't test this for myself though... Thanks Ollie for showing us an alternative approach

    as i own an acces virus i can confirm that the sound is the formant shift function of the access virus. But anyway this is a GREAT tutorial, love the sound you create and love to learn how to do such sounds in synth VSTs!

      @jimipatalano1094 Před 4 lety +1

      Hello. Can you provide some more detail on how to get that glassy sound using the f-shift on the virus? You are referring to the airy sound that comes in at 0:56-0:57 (right when the kick comes back in) and not the earthy lead that comes in one bar later at 0:58 right? I find it simple to get the earthy lead with f-shift, but the airy bell like sound eludes me. Does it require using a particular wavetable? Someone below mentioned Sundial. Any bones you can throw would be much appreciated.

    • @roxy5855
      @roxy5855 Před 4 lety

      @@jimipatalano1094 Just try different wavetables. and than set a 1/16 SH LFO to modulate the formant shift, maybe also modulating the pitch of the formant OSC. With the rigt modulation and the right wavetable, you´ll get exactly there (-:

      @@roxy5855 do you use delay and phaser from Virus? I tried to set delay time there but I think it's impossible, there are some standardised ms... Because of this the sound design that I did doesn't sound like in this video...
      If u could help me, I'll be thankful!

    A great tutorial! I searched how these effects are called for months. If i could like this tutorial 1000 times i definitely would. Do you know tracks or DJs which have A LOT of these sounds? Almost always these effects come as really short inserts. Ideally i would listen to this for hours. Maybe i am asking for too much, but let's try)

      Yeah I guess so, because I am a huge fan of SoundToys and all of my delays are basically Echo Boy or Ultratap, andwhen it comes to "effects like these ones" I use the stock delay of ableton, I didnt really get the chance to test other plugins for these type of sounds and thus I didnt wanna say stuff am not sure about in my video x)
