Because of his looks and celebrity status, Beckham was underappreciated as a footballer. He truly was incredible.
Blame Alex Ferguson for that. He constantly criticised David’s celebrity status but he seemed fine with kicking a boot in David’s face! 😠

Beckham was a player that really loved playing for england at a time when most of the players saw it as an extra job, he saw it as a privilege and i can truely say it was a privilege growing up seeing a player like him lead england

Pity so many "english supporters" hated beckham. So what if he had a popstar wife, dodgy haircuts and "those" undies. He was one of out best ever players he could cross, he could take free kicks, he knew where the goal was and he played with passion, something we sorely lack today.
I agree, he wasn't always popular, but he was a hell of a lot better than some of the current players. And out of all England captains in my lifetime he is the only one I could imagine winning something.

To be fair it took him about 10 goes in that Greece match! But still the best performance I've ever seen by any player in a game, it was 10 people on the pitch who had one job, give it to Beckham! And if they didn't, he just went and got it...

Beckham was a gift to England. We will not see the likes of him again for many generations. It’s just too bad England didn’t win a Euro Cup or World Cup during his time because he deserved it. He was also surrounded by an amazing group of players. Scholes, Sherringham, Coles. Sheerer was the only man who came close to Beckham. He was also robbed of international glory.

The greatest England player koz he always wet his jersey, gave his 200 percent on pitch. Never seen a player with passes so precise as Beckham. Sooo underated as a player i think even when he went to Real, where the pressure of a planet was on him i think he did much much better than expected... he brought fighting spirit to that midfield, tackles, long passes, long distance goals...then i discovered him as a central midfield player. Genuis.

I actually get nervous for them, excited for them, all the emotions you'd go through for a club (like United) you support, but I feel all this stuff for a nation that Australians are supposed to hate.
