    Hey man. Fellow Wichitan here. Long time GA pilot. I just found your channel today. Holy Cow! Really? Your trip around the Flint Hills is exactly why I've been telling my pilot friends that I just want to find something to go low and slow so I can trip around the Flint Hills. That was great. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I love your vibe my friend!

      Thanks! That's the kind of thing I like to hear. One thing I call this type of aviating is "organic". It is minimalistic and direct. I am out in the atmosphere interacting with it. Also, the goggles I use are for sky divers and have no visible frame. Thus, they make it seem like I am flying without eye covers. I got them from Green Light Skydiving Supplies.
      Last Saturday I logged 3 hours flying above the beauty of The Flint Hills. I stopped in at Beaumont for a minute, too.
      In case you don't know, I have six other POV type movies like this on my channel (www.fitzvideo.com/Pages/POVs.htm). CZcams makes it hard to find things so I always refer people to my website. If you use the link above you will also be able to see the other movies I have made. I also have a travelogue called "The Flite Blog™". It uses still pictures and commentary to take you on trips to small towns in South Central Kansas and North Central Oklahoma. Here's a direct link to it www.fitzvideo.com/Pages/FliteBlog.htm
      Let me know if you hear about any Fly-Ins this Fall or next Spring. We can meet there.

    Back in '85 I purchased a Demonstrator MXL that I took flight lessons in. I took it back to Appalachia and enjoyed it for five years. I took many photos from it and it was tho most fun I have had in this life. A couple of years later, I was injured in a hunting accident and had to part with my toy.
    I was a pastor at the time and when difficult times would come due to the death of a friend or ect., I would tell my wife that I was going to go play in the sky.
    I fly along with you guys from here in my wheel chair now. It gives me much pleasure watching your videos. Keep up the great work for us 70 something pals who can no longer fly. Play on; Greg l, Fla.

      Dear Brother Greg,
      Sorry it took me so long to respond. I am very much encouraged by your comments. It was my desire to "bring folks along" on my Sky Safaris through these POV movies (Point Of View) and from your words it looks like I am succeeding. I am pleased to tell you I will be uploading a new POV called "Magic Time - Final Flight" in the next few days. At the moment I am writing this to you I am on hold with The Copyright Office. As soon as I get that squared away for this movie I will upload it. Assuming you are a Subscriber to my Channel, you will be informed.
      Yesterday evening I was up flying over some of the most beautiful of God's Creation. Besides spreading the Joy of Ultralight Flying, I am also hoping to help people see what is made clear in Romans 1:19 and forward. I know you hold these Truths and look forward to that time. Thanks again for your kind words. And so...

      Dear Tim,
      I appreciate your comments very much.
      It took me a bit of research to find the tune you were referencing because I bought it from a "buy out music" company called Fresh Music out of Massachusetts. I like these guys a lot. They have an ability to find players all over. They call the song "Latinly Outside" and the album is called "Piano: Solo, Ambient and Jazz Groups". They rarely tell you who the actual players are but if you go here:
      www.freshmusic.com/search/music-library/Latinly
      and make a query, they might.
      I have always been attracted to this style of music and have an album called "Getz/Gilberto" with their rendition of Quiet Nights.
      If you haven't seen the others on my Channel, you might also like "The Harper Run", "Sun Over Severy", etc.
      They all have "POV" in the title for search purposes.
      I have "Spring Fandango" in the can but have not had time to edit it yet because we finally moved into our dream house next to my hangar on the grass runway. Moving out of a home of 30 years is not an easy process and we are still trying to see the other house...

My favorite was "When Thunder Rolled!" My favorite aircraft of all time was the B-58 Hustler with the 105 coming in almost neck & neck. 700 knots on the deck inbound to Hanoi. What balls! What piloting! My best to your Dad. Hopefully he's still around! If not, it goes without saying that he was a great patriot!

      Jesus never invented any airplane. Zero airplanes in the Bible. You can thank mother nature, the Chinese, Lawrence Hargrave, Otto Lillienthal, the Wrights, and many other early pioneers instead (Dumont for ultralights, and Alan Green and John Law for your Quicksilver). As far as I know, the churches position has always been if mankind were meant to fly, "god" would of given him wings. Flying was for the most part, a dream and ambition of heretics and apostates. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_aviation
      But don't take my word for it. Fly up high enough, and see for yourself, there also is no heaven and no angels. But take a warm body suit, and an oxygen supply, because it gets cold up there and the air gets thin... it's no afterlife paradise.

      When flying like this, the speed is about 38 mph. That's a good speed for this machine. It will go up to about 65 but it wants to climb at that speed, requires much more gas and is not as much fun. Once you realize that about a Quicksilver, everything is better.

Also, it is imperative to make sure the stuff is secured and doesn't come loose while airborne or while taking off, flying or landing. In addition, it is with great care and concern that I land in "unknown" locations. Holes appear in the ground where you never expect...

They would take touring flights lasting a month and they maintained about the same altitude I generally fly - 500' to 1,000' AGL. I only fly low in the POVs because it makes for a far better visual.
      I have produced 7 of those POVs and if you want to see the other ones, go here:

      and I have a number of aviation movies and a few other subjects also.
      Soon I will release my final POV. It features 8 cameras on the MXL.

      Dear Al,
      I'm glad you liked the movie! My guess regarding "the belt sound" is that it is one of my graphic sound effects. I like doing them but not everyone realizes what they are for. I just have a need to accentuate any moving graphic with a sounder. I started doing it years ago in my TV commercials and can't get away from it...

    • @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer
      @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer  Před 2 lety +1

      For all intents and purposes you don't want to be removing the wing on a regular basis. These planes need to be hangared when not in the air. I suppose you could cover one up with tarps or a tent but you don't want to leave them outside in the elements. The fabric will go bad within a year or two and you have to replace it.
      Taking it home every time you want to fly is not part of this machine's modus.

    Brian can i ask you a question . why do you have a band around your legs?

    • @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer
      @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer  Před 6 lety

      That question comes up a lot. The band is called a "Fiebich Belt".
      The Quicksilver was made for a shorter guy than I. With the seat up to the front position for better aircraft balance, only my toes are on the rudder pedals. There is nowhere for my knees to go and it gets tiresome trying to hold them "up". So, I noticed a guy known as "The Airbike Ace" (Paul Fiebich) used a strap around his thighs when flying his Airbike for a similar reason and I adopted the same concept naming the device after him.

    • @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer
      @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer  Před 3 lety

      One of the interesting things about Kansas is that it is not as windy as people think. Now I say this as I look out the window of my office at a 23-28 mph South wind with gusts probably to 35. That's today. Yesterday, I flew for 2.3 hours in completely calm conditions. This type of flip-flop happens frequently. Then there are also longer stretches in the Spring, Summer and Fall with winds about 10 mph daily. The thing about that is the wind is usually nil at daybreak and doesn't build to 10 mph until about 9:30 or 10 am. Then it typically will die down around 4 or 4:30 pm leaving about 3-4 hours of flying time before sundown.
      If you watch some of my POV movies (www.fitzvideo.com/Pages/POVs.htm) , you will see that I typically take to the air at sunrise and fly low "under" and in the direction of the winds aloft. As I continue, these winds finally make it to the surface as I arrive at my destination. Then, after visiting the town and re-fueling, I return "riding the wave". Some of the greatest flights I have had were done that way riding 30 mph tailwinds at generally 1,000' AGL. Mostly they are quartering tailwinds but a most memorable flight was returning from Perry, Oklahoma with a PERFECT Zero Degree 30 mph tailwind. It's like sailing the ocean with the wind at your back and your sails full out.
      That's why I'm The Sky Surfer!

      I'm glad you liked my view of The Great Plains and its Free Range Horses (the deer are everywhere - even in our yard).
      The only time I have seen Buffalo is inside an enclosure with tubular steel fencing. I"m not the expert but I understand that Buffalo won't stick around like horses generally do and soon wander across highways, etc. The Free Range Horse program also includes Donkeys and Mules but I don't think Buffalo are included AND I've never seen them out in The Flint Hills or Northern Oklahoma.

      Oh! And thanks for the comment on the 105s in Pac 6. I remember over 800 105s were built with over 500 lost mostly in Pac 6 & a few got dumped in Laos & the Tonkin Gulf. Terrible war that was. I was a Navy trained U.S. Army salvage diver. We plucked quite a few chopper pilots out of the drink, mostly Saigon River, many crashes caused by accident. My worst recovery was a Huey with 11 GIs onboard including crew. Hit that big x-country wire just south of Long Binh. All deceased. Drowned. Flying low into setting sun. Didn't see it. Over 10,000 killed by accidents! Rest in Peace & God Bless them all.

      Thanks, Bill. You have valuable experience from war. From my aspect, whenever I decide to fly down a river I make sure to fly over it above tree level to check for wires. They can also appear after a week or so, so I have to review an area before I travel down it. This is on my mind because I am considering a "river study" for one of my upcoming projects...

    Actually, horses were very much native to the plains prior to being driven to extinction (probably) about 10,000 years ago in large part by human hunters!
    The Old World horses are genetically and physiologically indistinguishable from the extinct New World populations, so they're just repopulating their original range!

    • @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer
      @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer  Před 2 lety

      Virginia, you can believe that if you wish but I have not seen support for it. Some trace the horse back to a little animal 13 inches tall that appeared in the Tennessee Valley and then decided to cross over the Bering Strait, grow bigger and then return with the Spanish. Similar to that fiction, your claim is gratuitous and without evidence. At least you are novel being the first one I have heard say the horses were "driven to extinction... by human hunters". Also, how would you know the genetics of "The Old World horses"? I have seen no evidence of genetic material being available from "(probably) about 10,000 years ago".
      Thanks for watching, but as for the plains horses, I stand by my statement.

    • @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer
      @BrianFitzGerald-TheSkySurfer  Před 3 lety

      Yes, indeed! It is one of the greatest sights ever and you are paying for it. I prefer to call them "free range horses" because they are not exactly "wild". This is part of a government program to bring horses and burros "back to the land". I don't care if people want to spend their money on this type of program but it is a different situation when tax payers are forced to pay for a deal like this. I DO like to watch them canter across the plains. It is truly a majestic sight. The problem is that I just see yet another federal project draining people's money that they have no control over or benefit from. I am one of the few people who gets to see these herds. I have also seen huge herds like these down in Oklahoma. I have another POV dealing more directly with the Free Range Horses called "The Search for Mustang Valley" which you can see here:
