I chose Islam, because I was getting depressed and I was living my life as a people-pleaser. Now all I have to remind myself is that it only matters what Allah sees me as, because only He knows me. That’s not oppression, that’s finding comfort in believing in your Creator.

Rights wise, I was not oppressed, but I was oppressed by a society and people that wanted the worst for me. I was trapped in the society that wanted me to fail and wanted me to give up and give away my soul to meaningless things. Since taking my Shahada in May of this year, I have never felt more free! I have troubles because none of my family is Muslim besides me and they give me a hard time and don't let me wear proper Islamic clothing because "we're not in an extreme state" and because "it's extreme". I’m a woman and I converted to Islam almost 5 years ago and I still struggle sometimes to stick to it as I grew up in western culture and still live in one. I only have my dad that still speaks to me and sadly my local Muslim community isn’t the friendliest but I know Islam is the right path to god. I will continue to work to be a better Muslim and try my best. It just gets abit isolating

Just yesterday I watched a television interview with a woman who converted to Islam after she fell in love with a Muslim guy. The first day she married him, he hit her so hard she barely could walk. Thorough out the years she became like his slave. She had three children with him, and he hit them as well. She revealed that with this is the faith of many Muslim women. Not all Muslim women, but too many. So sad. Women, be careful not to make the same mistake!!!
Same can be said for Christian / western men who financially & physically abuse their wives. They are also those who have affairs and kill their wives so that they don’t have to pay alimony or go through the divorce process.
