  • Colin Cowherd is joined by 'Hoops Tonight' host Jason Timpf to discuss all the Game 1 action across the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Colin & Jason discuss the Denver Nuggets' dominant second half vs. the Los Angeles Lakers and how Nikola Jokic mirrors LeBron James. Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns fell to Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, but could KD lead his squad to win the series? The Los Angeles Clippers dominated the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 without Kawhi Leonard but how will Luka Doncic & Kyrie Irving respond the rest of the series? Joel Embiid avoided a terrible injury in the Philadelphia 76ers' loss to the New York Knicks but which team will move on to Round 2 of the NBA Playoffs? Lastly, what will the the next TV deal look like for the NBA?

    What I observed is: the RS was all about scoring with non intense D. As soon as the POs or even the PIs started, it all shifted to much more intense defense efforts. And role players in Away games tend to undere perform whereas in home games the over perform. This to me is why all of the home teams won their opening game in the POs. And also the reason why scoring plummeted down to under 100 when the RS is was close to 130 for the winning team. This is the payback on playing poor D in the RS. I am pretty sure we will see higher score in the second game and also Away teams winning.

Don’t engage with anything online that’s Lakers related. Don’t give it your comment, don’t give it a like, and don’t give it a view.
      The best way to combat it is to ignore it, and DON’T ignore things that cover smaller market teams. Even if you aren’t interested in a video that talks about the Orlando Magic or the Sacramento Kings, click on it, let the video run for about 30 seconds and give it a like. And pundits have to find an honest way to talk about it. -- I watch Lebron: he’s great in spurts. He’s a designated hitter. But he’s not controlling games against the best teams. He dips in and out of games.

      @danielday3374 Před 12 dny +1

      He is playing great. He’s just athletically declined which can make him at times be a liability. AD was supposed to be the equaliser but he’s playing out of position with a PF frame, again making AD himself a liability in certain matchups. Both elite, but dwindle into being only good depending on the matchup. LeBron at this stage of his career needs specific role players to iron out his deficiencies in old age.

    Don’t get too excited, Clippers fans. And no, I’m not a Clippers fan since 2019. We won Game 1 from last year too. We lost Game 2. Then Kawhi was out for the rest of the playoffs and Suns ended us in 5. We were up 2-0 in 2013 and 2016 only to lose the next four. We blew 3-1 leads twice since 2015. Thanks, Doc. They’re still the Clippers until proven otherwise.
    Considering Paul George, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook have never won rings and are known as playoff chokers, maybe all three need to come together and prove everyone wrong. This year could be it for them. It’s now or never. Another year, they will only get worse and older. This is their Last Dance.
    It’s only one game. It’s a best of 7. Not a best of 1. Let’s say we dispatch Dallas. We need to start every series on the road after that. We can never get too ahead of ourselves. It would be a great story if PG, JH, and RW finally won a ring this year. Without Kawhi, we have a shot against every team except Denver. PG and JH can combine for 50+ points if Kawhi is out.
    Good win, but we still got a long way to go. Let’s not overreact after one game.

    There is a fix for the league problem. It's just too many games, it worked in the past but everything now is against all those games. Reduce games to 60 a season, every team playing each other twice. With less games would come more quality and more time in between games which increases the anticipation. (another fix is extend out 3 point line to sideline on same trajectory which would stop the corner three's and bring back way more post play)
