  • Looking inside Akranes lighthouse and exploring its surroundings. A lighthouse in the town of Akranes in West Iceland. Special thanks to Hilmar Sigvaldsson, lighthouse keeper, who gave permission to film inside the lighthouse.
    00:50 - Hjallar. Simple structures for drying and storing fish.
    01:30 - Akranesviti lighthouse. Built in 1944 and standing 19m tall.
    02:37 - The smaller lighthouse, built in 1918, is one of the oldest concrete lighthouses in Iceland. It served the fishing town until it was deactivated in 1947, in favor of a more massive structure.
    08:14 - Inside Reykjanesviti lighthouse

    Such a calm walk. Music also matched your pace. I noticed you walked slower this time. It's nice 😀 loved the lighthouse view. So beautiful 😍

    Thank you for all your beautiful videos. I will be there early September. How is the weather then? Lots of sunlight still during that time?

    • @IcelandHotSpots
      @IcelandHotSpots  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes still plenty of sun in september and the weather should be somewhat cool but tolerable. Nice autumn colors in some places perhaps. Þingvellir is best in autumn.

    What is SVITI in Icelandic - 'light', perhaps? If so, there is a surprising connection with Slavic languages, where 'swiatlo' or similar means 'light'.

    • @macpatman
      @macpatman Před 2 lety +1

      Viti means lighthouse :) the icelandic word for light is ljós.

      @IcelandHotSpots  Před 2 lety +1

      Patrick is right. Viti is a lighthouse. A guiding light.
