    Wang and Xu are from Shanghai. They got to be from the same team in China's provincial competitions. With these 2 dudes, Shanghai must have won many national titles.

    Wang Liqin is a true champion. The only way from being best in the world is downhill, no one can keep it up forever. Staying among the best for as long as he did is beyond remarkable. He still got it, he can still produce marvelous game and I can only hope that he keeps playing for few more years. Tyoungos, who are you to tell him when to retire?

    Great Match, great rallys, Xu Xin surprised me with his lifting/counter topspin game, but what surprised me the most, is seeing WLQ almost beating him with just his beautiful technique and smart ball placement ^^

    so many spectacular rallies on this match which is we didn't see them very often in table tennis nowadays. I don't understand why in the past there more awesome rallies than today and the match more exiting to watch.

    • @linus1973

      Forehand was the predominant stroke used back then. The new generation is backhand dominant due to the backhand flick adopted. Away from table rallies are played using the forehand stroke not backhand stroke.

    XX was so athletic back then. So many more long-ranged rallies. Miss those days. Nowaday everyone plays with their belly against the table. Hardly see any power loop rally.

    omg how deadly is Xu XIn? He's tall as Wang Liqin, his rpb is better than Wang Hao/Ma Lin's imo, his forehand and footwork are amazing as Ryu Seung Min's, and heck he's a penholder and a LEFTY

    • @dickn.ormous1064
      @dickn.ormous1064 Před 6 měsíci

      That legendary creature still won nothing of importance and even failed in doubles to Mizutani.Perhaps having a decent block to redirect attacks to wide angles and a good serve is more important than playing loops 6 meters behind the table.

  • @tramnamcodon
    @tramnamcodon Před 14 lety

    I feel sorry for Liqin, he is still doing very well recently, but the old weak points (backhand and serving) prevent him from beating the young guns Ma Long and Xu Xin
    anyway, I like to watch his matches

  • @scylla24
    @scylla24 Před 14 lety +1

    omg, this match was amazing, the rally beginning at 5:48 is insane. Also interesting to note, Wang Liqin, almost never bothers to switch the sides of his paddle to smash, but he did against Xu Xin. In my opinion these two players are the two most athletically gifted players of their generations. Both have an unique combination of speed and reach. Samsonov is taller than Wang Liqin, but way slower, Ma Lin is faster than Wang Liqin, but doesn't have his reach. Xu Xin has that combination.

  • @max095
    @max095 Před 14 lety

    Indeed you are rigth with Wnag Liqin's weakness on backhand, and even forehand returns near table he is mostly a mid-distance player... but what is wrong with his service???

    but he IS getting old. China has a long road of table tennis ahead of them.
    he should retire soon...
