      Do you have to loosen the tie rod? Can't you just take the pin and nut off and pop it up ?

      Is it necessary to remove the brake caliper? Looks like it could be done by just moving the brake hose and sensor wire and shifting those out of the way....?

    I appreciate the free content, these videos have helped me do several repairs. But, you guys should really let people know that if you don't support the knuckle after removing the old strut, it will pull the cv axle out. At least it did on the passenger sideb for me. This made the job a huge pain and could have been avoided very easily had I known

      I normally do not read comments if I really like the video. Today was my lucky day. I read your input prior to pulling the right side. Supported the knuckle on concrete block. Everything took about 45 minutes to install.

    Why do you have to loosen tierod with wrench? Could you just loosen tierod castlenut ?

    You make great videos - thank you. Can I just remove the castle nut on the tie rod end knock it out that way? why do you loosen it on the bar?

      They only removed it because they were replacing the tie rod end on this repair. If it is reusable then you don't need to loosen it. It'd be a good idea to replace it at the same time though because if the strut is bad then the ball joint on the tie rod is probably on its way out as well. That way once you get your alignment you only have to do in once for both repairs.

    Why was the tie rod end loosened from the inner? Couldn’t you have just unbolted the tie rod from the struts without doing that?

    Pretty bad info up front left me stuck overnight and needing a taxi to go get the right tool in the morning.
    You list the wrenches needed topping out at 21mm, and even SAY 21mm when loosening the tie rod, but that is a 24mm, which you mumble about later.

    My parents mechanic tried to charge me 2k to replace all of my shocks and struts. My back suspension is fine. They also told me they had to remove the inner and outter tie rods because my outter tie rods were bad and seized to the inner tie rods. How can that be, they aren't even touching in this video 🥴😡 I paid $700 for them to replace my outter tie rods on my 2003 honda civic.

      Yes, you need an alignment if you did anything with the tie rod. Sorry I’m 3 years late to answer.

      I wouldn’t if you need to ask that question you’re probably going to way over tighten it also how tf you gonna know when it’s at 30 ft lbs

    I just replaced front struts on my 02 and upon road test tires are toed out and making rubber road noise

      I would say not so much. Because if you look closer to the end of the video they put a new tie rod on as well

      You do NOT need to break free the tie rod end. Just remove the cotter pin and nut and hammer it free be careful not to damage the threads. They edited in the tie rod end replacement from another video into this video, not sure why.

    I’m having a lot of trouble on the bolt with the cotter pin. I have the pin out and the bolt off, but it seems seized. I sprayed penetrating fluid but it’s still stuck. I banged the hell out of it too. Any tips PLEASE?

      i'm sure you've gottten it solved by now but could try some heat or one of them tie rod removal tools you can rent from the auto parts store

    10mm to 24mm sockets and wrenches. Not 10mm to 21mm

    Why...oh...why do you loosen the tie rod lock nut??? No reason at all! Brake caliper DOES NOT need to be removed either!!!!

    Bought my struts from you guys but I’m Having a lot of problems putting the nut back on the tire rod. Follow every instruction from this video. Help anyone???The nut for the tire rod looks a lot different from the beginning of the video compare to the end of the video when you guys were putting it back in place. Can someone explain a easier way?

    My local Honda dealer wants $1500 to replace just the 2 front strut assemblies on my 2002 1.7 Ex. Seems like an outrageous quote.

    how did you let the a arm drop without pulling the cv shafts out of the sockets?

      The lower arm should lower when you remove the springs. The CV axles will not prevent the arm from dropping at that point.

    Just purchased a 2001 done this and the alignment is way off one wheel is almost turned compared to other vice versa granted I knew it needed alignment prior but now its ridiculous

      Not sure just came from another video who mentions this one, and he said he didn't have to do that with the tie rod. Also another commenter on this video mentioned they did it without taking the caliper off as well. Not sure if that's the case but it would be great. Eventually I'll have to fight with my brake and calipers but would like not to atm. Lol.

      You can see at the end of the video they replaced the tie rod end but didn’t include that with the video. So no it’s not needed.

    Hey 1a Auto, I cannot find a confirmation on a 05 civic SI hatchback. I need the FRONT pair of strut & spring assemblies. I'm NOT dealing with removing the springs from strut assemblies and re-assemblying them. I cannot win for losing.
    amazon dot com link for MONROE 172185 172186 Front Quick Strut & Spring Pair Set For 02-05 Civic on claims it fits my car but Amazon DOESN'T have a drop down selection menu for the SI trim ..just basic civic 05. Another site claims this exact strut set DOESN'T fit my car
    Can you PLEASE confirm a variety of brands and what not pairs that will fit my car. I'm not trying to have to replace these every 2 to 4 years as I bought a cheap ( sub 175.00 for the pair) pair from either ebay or amazon in September 2016 and the damn top shock mounts are worn out already my daily commute isn't in pophole infested streets.

      1A Auto Parts interesting. I just checked on eBay copy and pasting the exact part number your URL showed me and it cross checked to the 172185 & 172186 strut assembly part numbers for the front.
