  • I figured out green screen although not well just yet. However it a great way to show you a bit of the trip to Pinehurst, not the famed #2 but some of the courses around Pinehurst by using overhead views and grow photos.
You make the call, is Pinehurst worth the trip?

I live in NC and we go to Pinehurst often. Mid south is a great course, I also recommend 4 and 8., #2 s nice but to me way over priced Glad you enjoyed it

Looks like it was a great time Jim. I had the opportunity to play #2 and #4 two years ago with my Cleveland Golf rep. It was spectacular. When you do go there you will love it.

Jim,in 2019 my son and I did a father-son golf trip to the Pinehurst area, and we had a great time. Our itinerary was 8 courses in 8 days and we played Pine Wild,Legacy,FoxFire,Mid South,Whispering Pines,Talamore,,Longlefe, and Southern Pines. Because my son has a friend who lives in the Mid South development we ended up playing that course 5 times,so I’m kinda partial to that course. Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Great video of your trip, Jim! As you do more trips, may I suggest that you provide a video of those as well? This allows us gofers to see into, as much as we can, the area, its offerings and the courses that can be played. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this! Much appreciated!

Thanks for highlighting Talamore and Mid South, 2 of our favorites. Mid South is not for the faint of heart golfer, as Palmer installed moguls in some fairways.

I went with a group of 8 golfers to Talamore resort this year. We played the last week in July. Temperatures were in the mid 90s. Day one- Talamore GC. Loved that course. Day two- we went out from Southern Pines to Legacy GC. Long course, enjoyed the course. On Friday, we teed it up at Mid Pines. That is a Donald Ross course. I’m not in the best physical condition. Heat plus having already played Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday didn’t help. The undulations and the back nine was “cart path only” was more than I could handle. I picked up on hole 10 to avoid heat exhaustion. Yes, I’m a native of southern North Carolina and the humidity and heat are an everyday hazard. But there’s not enough water/battery powered cart fans/ or shade to have helped. My take away: great golfing experience. If it’s over 85°F and heat index is adding 5-8°F to that and cart path only- I’m staying on the porch. Looking forward to playing there soon. It’s only an hour 1/2 drive. ❤

Hi Jim....Great recap of one of my favorite places. As you know we are putting on a My Golf Spy outing there in June. Staying with Talamore t the Mid South Lodges, and playing Mid South, Talamore and Pine Needles. Feel free to join us if you can!!

Mid Pines, Legacy, and Pine Wild are my favorites. I like the Pinehurst courses but it's difficult to get tee times without being a guest of the resort. I only live 45 minutes depending on traffic so I mainly go on day trips. I've played all of them almost at some point. I played several as a kid playing in the Donald Ross Jr tournaments they use to have ever Chasms break from school. #2 and #8 are so difficult unless you are a low single digit player they can be tough. #2 is so expensive it's a once or twice in a life time type experience for me. Every course down there is nice.

Unfortunately not well known is that you have to be a resort guest or member to play Pinehurst 1-9 other than same day if available. I’ve also heard people go for a week and assume it’s all about the Pinehurst courses and ignore the others. The top 6 a non-member can access are Pinehurst 2,4, 8 & Pine Needles, Mid Pine, & Southern Pines. Add Tobacco Road but not sure it counts being in Pinehurst - 30 mins from the town but halfway between the village and Raleigh airport so it’s a place to play on departure day if leaving from RDU. The ones you played and the other Pinehurst tracks are all very nice among others, but not at the same tier as the ones I mentioned. Country Club of Carolina is also incredible if you know a member or have a club reciprocal.

Played all the courses on the resort l, #8 was my favorite and I would never play #2 again. Overrated and overpriced. Pine Needles and Mid Pines are just as nice and a much better value.

Pine needles and #8 are the two best tracks in Pinehurst, #1 is a good sleeper course

#1 is a sleeper because the greens and pin placement will rip your shorts off.

Unique, tricked up, gimmicky. Any of these adjectives apply to Tobacco Road. The Pit was even more so back in the day when it was still open.
