The Congress ended days of suspense and fielded Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli, a seat represented by his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who went to the Rajya Sabha. The party fielded Kishori Lal Sharma, a Gandhi loyalist from Amethi. The announcement came as Friday was the last day for filing nominations for the states that will go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
